Clay apart from New Zealand what other country would you like to hunt in.Is there a certain country that interest you and why.Cheers mate keep up the great work.
Hawaii mate. The people there are awesome and the fishing and pig hunting is epic. Before I kick the bucket that one is still on my list.

Actually your mistake taught us what not to do which was much more educational compared to if you brought the needed things

I'm hooked on your vids too Clay, I hate the vids that just have music & no talking, the snakes are out over here, I have seen way to many & my local vet get dogs in each week from snake bites, about 50% die, I have been training my pup every time I run one over, give him a Zap when he gets close, I'll just wait till next winter.I will be in the N/Island as per usual for Xmas, must contact Joe for a nights hunting.

mate my heart was in my mouth for that one! there is no bond stronger than a man and his dogs. ive had lost dogs do some strange things too, you think they would hear your call and come, but I think sometimes they know when to park up and wait. its good you stuck with him and got him back to the vet, what a hunt! that was a massive effort running on the fumes of a pigs backdoor nugget!

02/23/20180,,holy sheepshit Batman!!(Clayman)I know I'm way late watchin' and commentin'..but damn,,all I can say right now,,is good thing Bob stayed with you,,all that forgot this and that, is/was damn good learnin',,felt your pain,,damn those Kiwi mountain slopes are faqking killer,, maybe 10-20 years ago,,but now,,no way. good learning for anyone trampsin' thru the unknown wilderness. dog biscuit, check,,you tube upload,check.
So you make knives as well?
If you sewed a small piece of canvas together with a power bar, a lighter wrapped in a small space blanket into a really small package, then carabinered that to your truck keys it would work as an emergency kit, you would need to cut it open with your knife to use it but that's why it would be an emergency kit.
I use to have just that sewed into the front of my bush shirt Shelly. I had another cold night out and used it and was lazy never to replace it. I should have.
I have made knives in the past. I will again when I get the time. Creating TH-cam content takes up a lot of my free time in between running a family and working etc.

Old Jim is still hunting and catching pigs. I never leave dogs behind. If they don't come home then I don't come home.

+James Miller Thanks James. Old Jim is not flash mate. I returned him to his master in Christchurch just now. Saddly that was probably Jims last hunt. At least he did not die a slow death on the hill as he most ceratinly would have if I had not got him out and back to the vets for attention. Was cold nite but the dogs helped keep me warm and I actually got some sleep.

Im new to hunting Pigs...Use Rifles instead of Dogs but Im an old fart of 51 and seriously not fit enough to track these days.
I will be watching your videos heaps to gain knowledge on habitat etc and I really like your attitude toward life, Your music kicks arse as well cob.

we all make mistakes, even the most simple ones at times, sometimes i think we are over eager for the hunt, it's human nature mate, even when leading a hunting life that's second to nature, like you said, a dog's life is more important than anything, glad it all worked out, i salute ya! and a checklist is NEVER a bad idea but should be the first thing you should do mate ;)

this hunt was one I will always remember. The Vet bill for Jim was over 1100 dollars but what I gained was pricless

There's only one thing worse than losing your dog, that's losing a mates dog.I 'm really glad everything worked out in the end ,Jim looked fine when you put him in the truck, just one of them things mate. Anyways it's another story to add to the collection.Watching you argue with Po over that dog biscuit was hilarious mate.
+Chris Dakin Thanks Chris. Saddly that was Jims last hunt with me. I drove to Christchurch and returned him to his master and just got back to Nelson now. Was hard saying good bye to the old boy. He was gold to hunt with. His gut never really has come right since that hunt. What really happend to him no one will know unless we open the old boy up and look inside.
I bet that trip will give you some good memories...
Bit of rough night trip that one. Carry my survival kit everywhere now.
hey clay my dad taught us to pack our lifesaver kit as he calls it with the dog collars. its always there if you go for a hunt
Is Jim part Giant Schnauzer? Jim looks like he is either full blooded or at least has some in him. I almost bought one a few months ago but ended getting a Bouvier des Flandres instead. I had a Giant when I was young, but both dogs are great working dogs.
Jim is 1/4 Grey hound 1/4 lab 1/4 wire haired pointer and 1/4 bully.
Sounds like a great dog, mine is 14 weeks old and 32 pounds (or 14.51 Kilograms), can't wait for her to grow out so I can see how big she will get, her mom is 90 pounds and dad 100 pounds so she will be a large dog. She's really smart, doing well with her obedience and trick training and one day I hope she will be a great hog dog.
i lwas do a stpid test when i go out on a mission. this is due to going hunting without a magazine. fishing without tacklle and diving without a weight belt... driving 2 hours in summer with my wetsuit on was horribly uncomfortable, but the looks i got from people i was overtaking as i raced (not stupidly) home to grab it were priceless

The joy on your face when you found Jim Clay, I had a little bit of that rain on my face as well, great vid and one thing I always check is my PLB, and first aid kit and dry food is in the pack before leaving the vehicle, thanks for sharing great vid.

thats how it goes sometimes, at least it wasn't raining. when I've lost a dog i just leave my shirt where the truck was and come back the next day and the dog is there. Jim sounds like a hunting fool if he wouldn't come back to the truck at some point. thanks for the vids clay
+leif707 yeah mate. It was out of charactor for Jim not to come back in. Turned out he was seriously crook in his guts. That was his final hunt with me.
I had a dog get plugged up from a bone one time, she was layed up for three days and dint eat a thing, finally passed a bone turd. I like how you ate those biscuits! :)
+leif707 Your lucky your dog came right. Jim needed 4 vets over 4 days plus a GA. Cost me over 1 k with the special tucker. When your hungry mate most stuff taste ok.
I was lucky indeed, I gota hand it to you Kiwis climbing up and down that steep country, its similar to where I hunt in california, I hope Im still groveling around in the brush for hogs when Im your age (:
