Emmy Award-winning actor Ian Buchanan will stop by The Locher Room live on Friday, February 17th at 3 p.m. EST / 12 p.m. PST to look back at his incredible career that kicked-off back in 1986.
Ian is well known to daytime audiences for creating the role of Duke Lavery on ABC’s General Hospital. He went to on to play Dr. James Warwick on The Bold and the Beautiful, Lord Sheraton on Days of Our Lives, Joshua Temple on Port Charles, and Dr. Greg Madden on All My Children. In 1997, Ian won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role on The Bold and the Beautiful; the first actor to ever win for the popular soap.
After leaving General Hospital in 1989, he appeared on prime time in It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, Twin Peaks and Columbo: Columbo Cries Wolf before returning to daytime in 1993 with B&B.
Ian appeared on numerous hit series including The Larry Sanders Show, Quantum Leap, The Nanny, NYPD Blue, Nash Bridges, Charmed, Alias and Nip Tucked to name a few. He appeared on film playing Jodie Foster’s Realtor in Panic Room as well as many others.

I remember sitting in a movie theater in 1988?, seeing the movie The Seventh Sign , starring Demi Moore. Ian Buchanan comes on screen, playing a small role. The entire movie theater can be heard saying, "It's Duke!"in hushed tones. Such a surreal memory that sticks with me, even today.

I started watching GH in the 2000s. I remember watching GH when Duke returned .. it was so good. And Ian has a very gorgeous smile. :))

He is so easy going it’s comical. He doesn’t have a phony bone in his body. His stories about Finola directing him about having his back to the camera and the tape on the floor are very funny.

It says a lot when he got few daytime soap roles across different networks. You won’t get that if no one like you or very difficult to work with… but good news since he is very likable and they wanted to work with him. He’s only 65 but hell he can dye his hair and they won’t know it! I waited until today when TH-cam let me turn CC on because it takes time to caption different voices. Maybe one day it’s totally live captioning but for now I can wait until next day.

It’s such a shame that all of the remaining studios had to leave NY for the west coast. I hate to be so superficial bc I know there is a lot more to actors than their looks but I have to say re Soaps in the 1980s i think both Ian and Tom Eplin were among the most stunning actors. I didn’t realize it when I was a kid but when I recently watched some old GH episodes on YT, I was blown away then and looking at any of his proofs and layouts/campaigns…stunning!
