    Hi Selena, loved the video like always. I swear student loans are the worst kind of debt along side credit card debt but your on the right track to paying it off! I use to pick up extra shifts at work back then to bring in some extra cash along with using my online income to pay off my student loan faster (just like what your doing). Wishing you the best with everything specially with paying off your student loans, once there payed off it’s feels like a huge weight off your shoulders. I swear I can breath better ever since I paid mine off 😂.
    Edit** My main goals for March is to start Exercising more and bring in more income (saving for a house).

      hi kyra, thank you ❤️ oh girl… it’s a whole struggle. I’ve wanted to save up for a car forever but I can’t allow myself to do that until my student loans are paid for or atleast 70% paid off. It’s definitely a hustle, appreciate you! Def gotta use some of your money saving tips Bc I truly spend so much money on food hahahah

    • @SelenaTrevino

      edit**: also good luck in saving for a house, how exciting!!

      @@SelenaTrevino Oh yes I feel you on that. Your already so smart with budgeting! I can definitely see you getting a car soon. Haha yea I always cook at home since it’s way cheaper, don’t get me wrong though there’s some nights I want a break from cooking lol. When we do eat out I normally will choose a restaurant that has a cheaper menu such as Thai, Indian etc. That way we can still enjoy an outside meal once and awhile and not break the bank. Thank you Selena 🤍🤍 you got this☺️.

    I am so nosey about these kinds of stuff, really enjoyedthe video and I like that you update your goals basedon your life and do not restrict yourself too much. Saving money and being active is important but mental health and living happy life is more important imo. For me for example the gas prices are sooo high that I decided to not use my car on everyday bases (it is expensive and also makes me sooo lazy) and I bought a half year public transport ticket. I have not really used public transport consistently since I was in high school and I actually quite enjoy the experience haha will worn out but this is a way for me to save because the hlaf year ticket costs about as much as one and a half full tank now so there is no questions about it. And besides the weather is getting nice so I will be spending more time inthe city and having drinks with friends and we have zero alcohol tolerance policy for driving so in summer I do not drive much anyway

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hahaha so am I, but I think it's a good thing to learn and be open about, so it's a good thing. lol🤪 yes quality of life is sooo important! wow yes, affordable and accessible public transportation is something the US still needs to work a lot to improve! but that is so cool that you have the option☺️ sounds like it will work perfectly! Ah, I can't wait for better weather!!🥰

    So excited for you to see your subscribers go up and your student loan go down. Good stuff. March is my birthday + both sisters, 2 nieces, cousin, and 2 high school friends. Last weekend I went to the Biltmore with my high school friends. This week is spring break (I’m an ESL teacher), so my son and I are going to complete our goal of seeing all 56 Tennessee state parks (just 5 to go - he’s a high school senior so perfect timing). Then the next weekend I’m going back to the mountains to celebrate March birthdays with the family. March is a really good month. I will have to work on spending in April, lol. Like you said, though, each month is different. Hope your March is fabulous, too. ❤️😀

      thank you so much ali, speaking it into existence🥰 wow that sounds like a lot of fun! also, I love that you teach ESL. I haven't been in that since 1st grade, hahaha. I can barely remember it. March sounds like a really fun month for you, I love that! Thank you, sending you love, I hope you have the BEST time

    I definitely need to start budgeting my money!! This has given me a lot of inspo to get it sorted - it’s so important because I feel like every month I’m just living from pay-check to pay-check!

    Love these monthly resets! Fixing my food budget seriously saved my budget and really helped me pay down debt and save. It was my number one most flexible expense so I realized it could really help if I could figure it out. I went from spending at least $80 a week eating out at work, on top of groceries, to now spending usually less than $75/week on groceries(including produce, dinners, fruit) and doing almost no eating out. I almost never even crave fast food anymore cause I know I can make it at home and the few times I do go out it's extra special. I started challenging myself to see what I could do with X amount of money each week and now it's just second nature. I'd highly recommend doing a challenge like that! Switching grocery stores, finding food vlogs and blogs, planning ahead and shopping based off what I already had were huge game changers and seriously helped my budget.

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I hope to do that someday haha and I def commend you for it! That is super impressive (I definitely lived on a very tight food budget during college and, well my whole life, until recently)… with everything on my plate, I have to pick and choose where I’m willing to sacrifice spending in order to pay off debt… and well, food makes me happy. I don’t mind that it’s one of the larger spending sections In my monthly spending. Because to me, food/enjoying food with others is worth it! I do hope to one day reduce my food spending some… but also keep in mind that this was not 100% accurate. Like I mentioned in the video, often times I pay for myself and for my boyfriend then he will venmo me back either half the price or the whole cost.
      Though I definitely will try it as a challenge in the future for one of my “no spend weeks” and see how I feel about it! I’m always open to try out new things Bc you never know! Thanks for the suggestion, always appreciate hearing your experiences ❤️

    • @accountforwastingtime
      @accountforwastingtime 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SelenaTrevino oh I totally get it!(and did catch that was expense for both you guys! It definitely gets trickier figuring out budgetting stuff with more people). We all have that thing that's totally worth it for us to give more of our budget to. I think I'm actually still too frugal with money sometimes when I don't necessarily have to be anymore, it's like I'm still too scarred from all that time of having to be frugal and from growing up like that too! Budgeting was kinda like dieting to me...key was finding something that realistically would work long term. It'd be cool to hear about any no spend or challenges if you try 'em! Adding up everything like that is always so eye-opening, I love how you did your pie charts.

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Of course! I truly don’t see a reason why income should be taboo. That’s very much baby boomer stigma haha I think if there was more transparency around income, we’d be able to decrease the wage gap more easily.

    This was such a great video. Thank you for sharing. I love how transparent and open you are about the figures. It will be very helpful to people.
    I just recently started taking my budgeting seriously, as opposed to just having arbitrary goals and numbers in my head, and even just a few months in, the difference and the savings is incredible. There’s something about having the numbers on a page that makes it so solid and helps you keep to it (and budgeting also makes things flexible enough for every month’s different circumstances)
    I also love how realistic you are about your spending. One of the hardest parts of budgeting for me used to be estimating and allocating but after I started being realistic with myself about the numbers and deciding which parts of my lifestyle are priority and bring me joy (therefore deserving more than other parts), it’s been going so much smoother. For example, I very rarely ever eat out but I read A LOT so my book/reading related budget is high and my eating out budget is barely anything. My end of the month finance wrap up is now my favorite time of the month.

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely think financial transparency is hard - it requires a lot of vulnerability. But I think its necessary to make salaries not be so taboo to talk about. I think if we all openly shared, more women & ppl of color would ask for raises and the racial amd gender wage gap would likely decrease.
      Same here! I’ve always used mint to have an overview, birds eye view of my expenses. It wasn’t until the last few months that I’ve decided to get serious with tracking and, honestly? It makes a world of a difference! I’m so glad you e had a positive experience with it as well!🤍✨
