    I love Eric's life lessons he gives: "Usually, in real life you want to be generous and kind to others. But in a chess game, it's okay to be greedy. No mercy."

    My biggest takeaway from this is something you said several times. When you're up material, you can take your foot off the gas and improve your position. I think I play decently in the opening and take free stuff when I see it, but once I'm up I think it's time to go in for the kill and end up being sloppy. That was a big light bulb for me, being more patient. Love this content!

      I'm so impatient I keep sacrificing pieces for attack, then end up in losing endgames that I only survive because a lot of people are bad at endgames. If I could manage to play games without trying to attack I'd probably win a lot more haha :D

      That was actually a huge insight. As i was reading this this I realized that i do the same thing

      @tracksremastered7796 ปีที่แล้ว

      so so true. End up losing the game about 50% of the time because of one move blunders when up material, being cocky etc. When you look at the analysis afterwards its often all the play coming from me or the opponent and one of us will have thrown the game in one move. Very instructive comment and video. :)

    • @Blackmystix
      @Blackmystix ปีที่แล้ว

      I've probably has this same thought, but in like a 1 second bite from during a blitz game. It's good for me to read and process this so I can internalize this concept and play better.

    • @tracksremastered7796
      @tracksremastered7796 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Blackmystix For sure, I played a a few games last night after watching this and reading your comment, and won 4 out of 5, just being more relaxed when you know you're winning from being up material and from a strategic view point. Very instructive.

    • @martinscharfenberg7012

      Qc2, Qxa1, Nc3 traps the queen on a1. But i think black can get two rooks for the queen here. Maybe i'm missing something though...

    • @lucasmatsuoca
      @lucasmatsuoca ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Qf6 is a good attempt since black is lost anyway but it doesn't work because of Qb3, if Qxa1, Bb2 traps the queen. You can also maybe incluse dxe7 before the Qb3, and allow black to win the rook and escape but to win a pawn + bishop and expose the black king even further, but probably Qf6 dxe7, black just retakes Bxe7 instead of going for the rook, and then Qb3 anyway. Anyway, it doesn't work but it's a good attempt to maybe try to make white blunder

    I seem to recall that the engine thinks Qg5 is even stronger than Qd5 in the last position you showed after the center fork trick. I think it’s the same idea you mentioned while also pressuring g2. Just have to be alert to discoveries if white pushes the d pawn.

    At 7:57 why did Eric move to e3 when it blocks bishop development

    "Doubled pawn are notoriously powerful."
    finally the truth is revealed xD
    no but really i have often had a very easy game because my opponents love to exchange their bishops for my knights, doubling my pawns yes, but giving me the bishop pair... and often the choice of either taking towards the center for a strong center OR away from the center, thus having a solid pawn block on one wing and open lines in the center... of course, the decision often isn't easy, but really i'm fine with doubled pawns as long as they aren't blocked or isolated

  • @itsReiya

    I didn't want to like this video. I really didn't want to, but I did like it. Why? Because Eric Rosen played against "me" over and over. He played against opponents who play like I do, think like I do, move like I do. And Rosen dismantled them. I learned a lot from watching Rosen, and listening to his detailed contemporaneous analysis. He is quiet, not brash, not boastful, but you just feel his quiet confidence and his ability to see several moves ahead is impressive.
