I haven't done any experiments but I'm pretty sure you will find that wheel attached to rotors will have almost the same friction as a light armor block. They are just another type of block with no settings. Only wheels attached to suspensions have settings like friction that can be adjusted. For an elevator care the size you have, you would need quite a few wheels to be able to move it. You might get some success by replacing the rotor wheels with more suspensions so that you have four wheels on each pillar. You really need to avoid the car tipping in any way to avoid damaging the pillars, especially if you are going to keep the landing gear that close to them all the time. The best system I've come up with is just using the wheel suspensions at the top and bottom of the car going in at least two directions on pistons to adjust their distance with the wheels sideways inside beam blocks with their friction set to zero and using thrusters to raise and lower the car.
The landing gear are causing the explosions on the pillars. Remove them and replace them with 1x1 wheel suspensions with the friction set to 0. Should remove the clanginess and allow the elevator to move freely along the pillars.
I would try to balance the platform itself also, it seems like you are front heavy, I would try to make the platform equal on all sides, with weight in the middle, I also agree about the landing gear swap over to a 1x1 wheel. Also the hinge wheel setup I would remove, Hinges I do not think could hold that kind of weight and still be able to get enough grip. Other then that, this setup looks great.
Love the idea and the result, still can't get over how many ways that drilling platform could have been improved though by copying the same design on all sides of the hole. Still impressive I didn't even think about using pistons when I tried it 🤣👍
Not seen if you got this working yet but a wheel underneath the cockpit at a 45 angle on to the pillar to help push the loading side up. It looks like its locking due to the wait, bit like the spring on a caulk gun
Seems to me they need to add some kind of track mechanic to the game. Everyone has had to jury rig their own. A track mechanic would allow for trains and elevators to be built more easily.
Great build, I tried a similar elevator but it wouldn't lift my big space ship 😅 The UI looks clean and changing the block setting without opening the menu is amazing. Is it a mod? if yes can I get the name? i tried some but they are not this clean

Exactly what I was thinking, the issue could be balancing the platform since the game allows structures to twist etc

God damn i love this channel already and this is the first time I'm seeing this channel
Great vids been enjoying them. What is your pc set-up my potato has been having issues soon as i hit 4k of elevator built

well U didn´t crash so that´s a win. Excited to see what comes next.
Look also like you need a counter weight out back to help stop grabbing
I would not have enough dedication or smarts to do this... doing gods work o7

What a difficult situation.
What about the center of mass?
U wonder how stable something like this would be on xbox
I don't think it would be too stable. I feel a bit of lag, but nothing game breaking just yet.
Advice: Stick with the timelapse...
