The Irish Rovers released this song in 1968. It was immensely popular, at least here in Canada and sold 8 million copies. Their Irish accents add to the attraction of this great song.
They were very talented and funny. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Louis. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

This was written in 1962 by Shel Silverstein but this recording was released in 1967. I still have this 45 record! When my kids were young, I played it for them & it was one of their favorite stories. What a nice memory. It brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for bringing it back Harri!

Harri, can't believe how you keep finding all this great Canadian talent to react too. I nominate you for an honorary CANUCK award. These guys are Irish but lived in Canada and even had their own T.V. show.
I think you have reacted to their "Wasn'T It A Party" already.

Irish Rovers were a bunch of Irish ex-pats who formed the band in Toronto - so a Canadian band. The song Unicorn was written by Shel Silverstein also wrote "Cover Of The Rolling Stone". Keep up the good reactions Harri. Thanks.

"The Unicorn" was made very popular by the Irish Rovers in 1968. It remains one of the best-known songs in the Irish Rovers' long career. It sold 8 million copies worldwide. In Ireland the song peaked at #5 on the Irish Singles Chart. Elsewhere, "The Unicorn" peaked at #4 in Canada, and in the US, reached #2 on the US Adult Contemporary Chart, and #7 on the Hot 100.

This song was in my first-grade play and I was one of the Humpty back camels. We sang the song when we did a play on Noah's ark. Years later actually got to see the Irish rovers in concert back in 2005 when they came to Michigan.

Irish imports, the Irish Rovers. They made their home in Canada and had a weekly half hour TV show when I was young, which I watched faithfully with my mother and adored them with her. When I was 8, my mom passed away, and the Irish Rovers still released songs, but their show ended.
About 35 years later, Will Millar, the lead singer on the unicorn song came to my town to the bookstore on a book tour, and I made a beeline to get there. He was selling a book he had written and autographed mine, but before he did that, he pulled out his guitar and his Irish flute and started singing The Unicorn Song in that distinctive voice of his, and I was so embarrassed. The last time I had watched him singing it was beside my mom, so I burst out crying in the middle of the bookstore. LOL. What a baby.
It was a special moment though... the Irish Rovers have some amazing story songs... The Orange the the Green, Whiskey on a Sunday, and they've done Black Velvet Band and all the Irish standards you can think of. I have wonderful memories of this band.

They are best known for their international television series in the 70's & for their fun songs such as "The Unicorn", "Drunken Sailor", "The Orange & The Green", "Whiskey On A Sunday", "Lily The Pink", "The Black Velvet Band" etc.

I love your reaction videos and this did bring back fond memories of my childhood. This song came out in the mid to late 1960s and whenever it was on the radio,my kid brother and I would stop whatever we were doing and would run like crazy to listen to it and other favorite things that were hit songs at the time.Althouh my kid brother liked it too,his favorite song at that time was "Tiny Bubbles" by Hawaiian singing legend Don Ho. That Christmas we were given little vinyl records (they were called 45 lps) of these songs/artists. I would have been 4 or 5 years old at the time. Our parents encouraged us kids to appreciate music diversity by listening/exposing us to all types of music ( This was long before the creation of rap,hip-hop,etc...but learned to love/ appreciate them too). A friend from Maine, USA 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕👍👍👍☮️☮️☮️☮️

One of my favorite bar/pub singalong songs - I recall we even did some sort of gestures in the chorus (which of course I never got right after a few drinks 😁). Thanks for this! Edited to add - so many great Canadian artists yet to discover. But I would like to suggest The Dead South (song In Hell I'll Be In Good Company, or their dark version of You Are My Sunshine is a real treat). Tremendously talented band and quite unique.

The song is the biblical story of God to punish man, made it rain for 40 days and nights straight, and Noah, was instructed by God to build a floating ark, so as to house a male and female of every animal specie. In the bible tale, Noah was building the ark, with no body of water nearby, and was ridiculed by the townspeople continually. The part about the mythical unicorn, is not biblical, but the animals and Noah are.
