The three cylinder compressor is nearly the size of the tiny engine in my Mini Cooper S. These are beautiful machines. I cannot have enough of manufacturing videos like this.
I just love busses, especially coaches. I drove one for Denver’s RTD for a while, but I couldn’t maintain their ridiculous schedule. But I loved driving those busses!
Note worthy here is that these are REAL buses & coaches i.e. integral monocoque bodywork method of omnibus construction, just as it's done with vans & cars ! Unlike in many 3rd world markets where they only use bus-chassi from the reputable makers like these BUT end up making the final bus/coach from their own local inferior grade 3rd party bodywork so you end up with some sub-standard product unlike here in Germany where the entire vehicle is build to 'original' standards in all the details !! 'REAL' as in the standards in terms of design, styling, specifications, physical quality etc. ultimately this would have to be the only way to produce a bus or coach which truly reflects the product values or intents of the vehicle brand ! Of course this may not be the cheapest way to produce a commercial PSV in the minds of those used to the 'bus-chassi only then 3rd party bodywork' type of mentality but certainly this is the best guaranteed way to ensure a bus / coach of 'real standard' is produced ! Afterall, a bus-chassis (with some 3rd party local rubbish) is not a 'real' bus but an original designed & integrally bodied bus then is a 'real' bus. Just as when a customer goes to Germany to collect his brand new SL500 or S600 car, a consistent level of 'standard' is ensured even if the vehicle is a Citaro bus or Travego coach. The next closest way to get the required 'standard' while reducing the costs would likely be importing the integral bus/coach in CKD form for local authorised agent assembly, as what's done with the cars. As far as i'm concerned, integral method is THE WAY to go for bus & coach production in order to ensure consistency in 'standards' & quality etc. The bus-chassi then 3rd party bodywork mode of production is fundamentally inferior & flawed as such due to the inherent inability to maintain 'standards' as one then gets all sorts of (localised usually) rubbish looking products which tends to NOT reflect favourably on the 'class' or 'standard' of the original vehicle makers.

Hello everyone! I love your videos. Its products are wonderful. I am Brazilian and I would like to see synthesis machines here in BRAZIL. Unfortunately our road network is poor. Did the teachers have thought to test some of their products here in our country? Here in Santo André, in the state of São Paulo, the METRA urban bus company made connects the major cities with this bus standard, has already tested the EUROPA products such as MAN (articulated buses) and are testing anotherproduct Volvo (sustainable bus) Could be good to test their vehicles, as Brazil has a tropical climate with low quality paving streets and various types of geography. We, Brazilians, we would be very happy to see ships thesis in our communities. Thank U! Be with peace of our Lord Jesus Christ! God bless you all on the other side of the Atlantic. Amen!
thanks ***** usually i don't watch these assembly videos because once you've seen one they're more or less identical. this though was quite informative and retained attention even though many of the processes like the interior were not explained. 20 minutes is a considerable time to watch and was ruined by that horrible repeating background music. the living ambient sounds of the factory, air guns, hammering, talking are SO much more interesting. if you want to add music use several tracks from a playlist :)
Was I wrong in noticing that the assembled power units had not one.. not two but three alternators? I liked the fit and finish and attention to detail and craftsmanship. for example 4 air bags on the drive axel.
I enjoyed that but I would like to know the engine spechs such as # of cylinders and torque out put.I do agree with the gentlmen that thinks they could put some more flair into the design.
The Setra S 517 HDH, the big white coach in the video has Mercedes-Benz OM 471 engine, which is 12,8 litre 6-in line cylinder engine that has power output of 375kw / 510 horsepower with torgue of 2500 Nm. It has Mercedes-Benz GO 250-8 MPS gearbox installed that has eight gears. Previous generation of Setras in Top Class -series, the S 417 HDH had 16-litre V8 as a option, but not anymore.
They are the safest ones in the market and in the world. European Union has required in its legislation past twenty years to perform crash tests to buses. Also one requirement is roll over test where bus is literally rolled sideways. These kinds of test has also have effect to metallurgy on production as certain structures needs special steel products for strenght that is reguired in different kind of accident scenarios. Mercedes has been pioneer in bus industry for decades for many important passive and active safety features like intellectual braking systems (lane control, obstacle watches like pedestrians and dead corners etc.) and stability control for handling. Also in Europe it hasw been mandatory requirement for years to have seat belts on buses. Generally Setra as a product can be considered as a Rolls-Royce of buses/coaches.
Always find the Manufacturing video's interesting ,i always seem to compare the different Industries manufacturing processes ( contrast and compare ) Interesting ! Thanks Enjoyed it, When i was watching was wondering do these buses have the same Crash testing as Automobile testing ? I never see any results given in normal Internet or Publications , would find it interesting to see ! Thanks Joe

I don´t know. it gives 2 types to buy in the U.S. Look at the website setra.us. Maybe the americans prefer american products. The plant is in New Ulm (bavarian side of the danube) since 1995 (Evobus). The area of the factory in Neu Ulm had previously been acquired by Kässbohrer for the purpose of expansion. Unfortunately Kässbohrer got into financial difficulties in 1993 (the 100th year of existence) Until 1995 the factory was based in Ulm (Otto Kässbohrer and Georg Wahl were the inventors of the setra 1951). It´s a pitty that the modern buses´ external designs are so shapeless, they all look alike. The American coach buses from the 50´s were so beautiful and gracefull. Now we see buses that are externally identical. Where is the designer´s criativity ?
+Maurício Campos Nowadays also certain constraints like, aerodynamics, interior space, storage space, utility, ease of production, production development costs, etc. can matter so much. That probably limits quite much what the designer can do. :/ Then other thing is probably that when the clients are companies and businesses, they value low maintenance costs, and reliability over the looks of the vehicle. While in normal car production the looks is more important.
because they need more power for air condition and ventilation fans and other electric consumers in the bus, modern buses have a lot of electrical features and they need lot of the power.

This is so much better when the loopy background "music" stops playing and one can hear the actual assembly and plant noises.
They should have used Oktoberfest music

Germans are not alone. Sweden, North America and Japan is good as well.
If america is still included in North America - then NO
Don't forget Austria and Switzerland, well they're pretty much German anyway.

Germany, sweden, Switz, and the japanese are the best at tech.

Sure they look nice, but the question is how safe are those buses in an accident?
I had my doubts too. That is why I came to watch and still have. Would be interesting to know more about the brake system...
