Honestly considering how easy copper is to come by when mining, especially up near the surface, I see no reason not to shove it all into builds. Once you've got a couple of lightning rods what else are you going to do with it?
Plus, unless you're specifically going for one of the partially weathered states, the "opportunity cost" is a non-issue because you can just go do something else while it oxidizes.
If you want bookshelves, just loot a stronghold. One library will get you about 4 stacks of bookshelves. If you do this, you’ll have all the books you could possibly need for villager trading and anything else.
Or you could get infinite bookshelves via villager librarian trading. Zombify and cure the villager until the libraries cost one gem. You could get another villager who wants books for emeralds for the full combo

I remember being on a server, just taking like the most part of a day to go down to the nether just to fly around and mine out all the gilded blackstone I could find. Sold it and made SO many diamonds lol

Edit: also, theres not much that much else to do with copper, only the lightning rod and spyglass to get the advancements but they only need like a few ingots but after that you can get so nuch so easily its perfectly fine to use it as roof blocks.

Because I use infinite lava sources and use the bucket method to build my portals in the overworld, I build my portals with obsidian corners.
Also lets you set up infinity fuel for all your furnace needs. All my crafting rooms have a little lava river.
Fun Fact: It's better to use stairs than a cauldron for infinite water since it never goes away. It's actually infinite water. Looks neat, too.

no way, flying machines are great from transporting villagers from far away villages. they're also convenient for low-effort travelling
In single player the lodestone isn't that useful, but I've used them for navigation to friends' houses in multiplayer!

I agree with most of this but with copper even though it takes 13 ingots you can also get way more ingots from each ore if you have fortune

I've always done the nether portal with all 4 corners, it just doesn't look right to me without them or replaced with a different block.
Tbf I always do the 2 top corners and not the 2 bottom ones (as I build it ground level and I don't understand why everyone makes it 1 block high)
and I build mine 3 wide so it has a one-block center... OCDness lol
