I know brother, just stressing this dude can play as clean if not better. Wasn't saying polyphia can't play their stuff live or taking anything away from them. Merely just complimenting someone who clearly put hundreds of hours learning these insane riffs so perfect.
5:00 you are correct, in his 'the making of' video, Tim showed how he used the omnisphere arpeggiator to write that ending riff, saying it was somewhat hard trying to map it onto guitar.
Nobody every gets the arpeggiator riff from Playing God 100% right (not even Tim when he plays it live a lot of the time), but yours was the cleanest I've seen by far on TH-cam.
I watched this last night on my TV and had to come back and say you are severely underrated, with polyphia's music and your own. I was surprised when I went to your Spotify and you have less than 1k monthly listeners. You're crazy good and deja vu is awesome too, gonna listen to all of your originals now! keep up the great work!
40oz basically just looks like aggressively molesting a guitar. The sound plus the way it looks when its played. its so damn smooth yet so in your face. you are way too good btw, i better go get back to practicing if i wanna try and catch up to you maniacs.
Great job man, you had some of the cleanest covers of their songs I’ve heard so far. Not sure about all the others but I just started learning 40oz and it’s difficult af so I can’t image how much practice it took to get all of these clean (also learned the worst but that one was a lot easier.)
That was all so good! I recommend learning the long slide into the 14th fret in the Playing God riff, which is followed by a harmonic on the 12th. I used to play it like you, but it makes a big difference!
Man you really just absolutely slayed some of the hardest music played on the guitar today, and made most of it look effortless. Melted my brain with this one; gonna go stream all your original music just on principle 💯
Amazing playing. Super clean. I was surprised Playing God was the number 1 pick as I found it easier than than other Polyphia riffs I've tried. But I only learnt the famous intro, that outro looks rough.
Ty and yeah the outro riff kinda puts it above the rest tbh, I hybrid pick it all and the string pattern for the picking hand is insane , but that being said the ego death riff is probably just as hard
@JonLui, this video was incredibly amazing! 40oz, playing God, and even ABC sounded so clean, Im legit in tears, bro. Plus, how do I refrain myself from getting hand cramps every 5 minutes? You played 6 songs before getting one, which surprise me since you went into HardCore Mode ! ❤
Man this just inspired the hell out of me. Ive just learned the intro to Playing God, and it was my introduction song into hybrid picking as well as natural harmonics (in the way that Tim uses them specifically) as well as the concept of flamenco guitar. it took 1 day to learn the intro and nearly two months later, I still cant quite play it cleanly at speed. I have a way to go, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Maybe one day I'll be able to cover this entire video
I’m so happy you put OD on here! Love the song and I’m actually using it for an audition soon! Also you’re amazing, as a drummer I have no clue how hard this is, but it looks cool
I think the Playing God riff was actually written digitally and then Tim tried to recreate the attempts with his fingers. This might be totally wrong but I think they mentioned it somewhere
Also also, Tim has mentioned in the past that generally a lot of the time, his riff writing ends up digital at some point, for instance the bell melody in G.O.A.T, the arpeggiated melody in playing god, or a lot of his covers like, his take on pony by ginuwine, or his short little instrumental on yt called blood moon, a lot of Tim’s writing starts with a pad chord progression or some other form of midi chord progression 😁
Mate, my hats off, genuinely, i've been practising a couple of those riffs for years, haven't gotten as close to having them as clean as you have. But I do feel obliged to mention you're missing some of the flavor in GOAT, I would recommend taking another look at that one, other than that, insane playing, I can only hope to achieve this in the near future.
The polyphia riffs are impressive and all but your song at the end absolutely fucks, I love the bouncy jazz section so much. Keep fucking rockin dawg 🤘.
you are an absolute legend for being able to play all of these...i would probably replace The Worst with Bloodbath but thats probably a me things because i learned the worst with tabs and bloodbath by ear.
I agree with the most part! For me Ego Death is #1, and outro of G.O.A.T. and thumping in the middle of Bloodbath also can be top10 btw I like your way of using hybrid in Playing God :)
Are some parts sped up or is it just weird frame rate? Insane covers for all of these btw. Even if they're played slower they're still ridiculously difficult
amazing fking video dude, i saw another video that was similar as this but ur playing was x100 times better than that one since it was basically up to speed and you didnt leave out the hard riffs
I know only a handful of these, but to me it's 1. Goat (the taping pattern is weird and was hard to combine with the octave slides + hammer on, and the sweep picking is tough) 2. Playing god (i to this day can't play it with perfect timing, everything else is pretty easy, but the timing is confusing to me) 3. Worst (second part of the riff is tough with all the slides and pull ofs, and hammer ons, very tricky to get up to original tempo) 4. Chimera (the easiest one, no confusing tempo or combination of techniques back to back, and if you are like me prefer hybrid picking, then it really is an easy riff) 5. Goose intro (only the fast alternate picking at the end is hard, with confusing timing Now attempting to learn neurotica, and it is by far the hardest. Very big stretches played very fast, and the left hand fingering is not obvious at all
Dude, there’s another hidden Polyphia song that most people don’t realize, but it is as hard as Polyphia’s recent song called “Transcend,” even though it’s ten years already. Check it out, guy…
I can only play Chimera rn but want to learn Ego Death after I get 6 more months of practice and an electric guitar. It's my favourite riff ever. edit: I learnt Ego Death, it took like a whole week to get it sounding clean but it helps to train your thumb position and curling your fingers
To expand on this, when tapping, often the string resonates on both sides of your finger, causing a different pitch to be played at the same time as the intended pitch (grab an unplugged guitar and start tapping at the 12th fret and move up; you'll hear a second pitch going down unless you mute the neck at a lower fret). Although this is not a huge problem given electrics only amplify on the bridge side of the finger, it can cause resonance/dissonance issues when playing, especially when unplugged, so wrapping a sock around the top of the neck gets rid of any unwanted notes from tapping. I personally don't do this myself, as my style usually incorporates a left hand in a barre chord anyways, muting the bad pitches from right hand taps, but Tim's style has many taps on open strings, making it more desirable.
Ah yes GOAT, the only riff that has ever made me consider quitting guitar just because of that stupid quick run in the intro lmao but I do have it down better than I used to so I guess we’re good now
On your GOAT cover, at 1:19 and 1:28 and the same again when you repeat, you play it slightly wrong. With your first finger, move it down 1 fret on the 5th string so you are playing a C# in the bass instead of a D note and you'll find it sounds more accurate. Very cool though :)
First of all, I'm no guitar player but I know how to strum the damn thing (sort of), and I know for a fact that their riffs were ultra complicated, but never really understood what specific factor or technique made them almost unplayable for the average guitar player, this cleared up my mind and now I have so much more respect for how they're able tu pull this off live... this is just countless hours of practice and YOU MY LAD, have done a magnificent job learning those monstrosities! Massive respect, holy smokes... keep it up lad!
The most difficult ones for me would be in no order, Death note riff Aviator Solo Nasty Solo (Because Jason Richardson) Neurotica Ending Playing god Ending Drown solo

uhhh they play it clean lol

Do you see the cloth in the fretboard near the nut? That should tell you why 😂
My g 💕
Jaysus god forbid you try to say something nice in the TH-cam comments 💀💀
Tim and Scottie are fucking monsters for creating all of this

damn, scottie has come a long way with his covers
Lmao Scottie in disguise

5:00 you are correct, in his 'the making of' video, Tim showed how he used the omnisphere arpeggiator to write that ending riff, saying it was somewhat hard trying to map it onto guitar.
Oh it was just omnishpere? So one else was saying it was the omnichord but omnisphere makes more sense for sure
@@JonLui used omnichord to make main riff
that riff was pretty spherical tho, josh peck would approve
I doubted that at first, but I guess its true
@@JonLui if i recall i think he used an omnichord to make the notes then put that original piece into omnisphere
That riff from The Worst is still my favorite they’ve written, I love it.
Same , It doesnt sound like flex , just a simple riff with good melody
It's definitely one of the best sounding ones. I think it's one of the first polyphia riffs I heard which made me appreciate them.
Nobody every gets the arpeggiator riff from Playing God 100% right (not even Tim when he plays it live a lot of the time), but yours was the cleanest I've seen by far on TH-cam.

absolutely insane, incredibly clean through every riff. you’re a monster keep that shit up man.
TY SO MUCH !!
Jon Lui, this guy is great. I love his originals
Thanks a million !! :’)
I knew Ego Death would be on here, and omg you played it flawlessly. It's my favorite Polyphia song of all time
Icronic and the neurotica ending were insanely clean Omds
Thanks sm homie 🫶

Slow the living heck out of it, it's a simple pattern once you learn it but just hard to execute perfectly
I’m an immediate fan after hearing Deja Vu for the 1st time, song goes too hard! 🔥
Lfg thanks sm ! 🤘🏻💕
Bro, your new track hit hard, keep it up!!
Btw neurotica riff is saucy, love it so much
Absolutely phenomenal mate!! This is legit one of the cleanest if not the cleanest cover of polyphia songs ive ever seen on youtube!!
That outro riff is demonic. It’s the control they have on the harmonics that I find hardest. You really pulled that off well my man 👏👏
That was all so good! I recommend learning the long slide into the 14th fret in the Playing God riff, which is followed by a harmonic on the 12th. I used to play it like you, but it makes a big difference!

That neurotica riff is probably my favorite riff in the entire album. Your tone and playing was spot on 👌
Awh thanks so much, I loooove that type of hybrid picking it’s kind of basic compared to outro of playing god kind of hybrid picking
The sweeping for 40.oz looks like your left hand is some alien shit. That was so smooth and creepy at the same time
dope video man, but i gotta say im glad you plugged your song at the end because i've had it on repeat nonstop bro lmao, keep up the good work

I’m so happy you put OD on here! Love the song and I’m actually using it for an audition soon!
