2021 MVP Open, Day 1, I was the other spotter on hole 5 and Kyle Klein got absolutely screwed with an OB call that wasn't actually OB (It wasn't the other spotter's fault either, it was the OB line over the water's fault)...Klein looked at me with those labrador eyes looking for help while Ricky and Calvin were coming down hard on him with the rules...it was heartbreaking. Still haunts me.
If you truly think about Ricky why would you pay him to throw your plastic? He will opt out as he has done with Prodigy, Innova, and DD 2X. Plus does he actually push enough plastic to warrant a big contract? You know he is going to miss time because of injury every year. He doesn’t promote any company he throws for. What value does he bring? 🤷♂️ just saying
Agreed. Honestly as somebody who doesn't bother throwing signature discs I don't think there's more than a handful of guys (5 or 6 tops) that move the needle for these manufacturers and Ricky (despite being a top 3 player for years and years) is not one of those guys
He promotes a lot for them. The problem for Ricky is he throws on an anhyzer and most of his stuff is over stable and unthrowable for most beginners. The best disc most can throw is Harp and that without Ricky's name is on it goes to westside. MVP would work the best for them because it is weight differences that is important with MVP discs, so he can throw a trail at max weight and get a decent line.
@@natesquaggles9332 what promotion does he do??? He was supposed to have a foundation and the only thing he has promoted has been the LV one the first week of the season. Not trying to bash him but there is no real presence. Paul has his team and he is very active about being at the forefront. Simon promotes everything he is attached to. I get it Ricky has anxiety and what not I stutter like a MF and I did when I was in the army and I also did air conditioning. I’m just saying at $1 million a year and being one of three in the industry and claiming to be the goat and the #1 he sure doesn’t do much to promote the sport or the brands he throws. Also if he was invested in his sponsors why does he ALWAYS opt out early???? That’s not being invested in the brand. That’s being invested in yourself. I hope whoever signs him next puts a clause in his contract the fines him if he opts out early and they make it hurt if he does.
I dig it shorter random topics. I'm in MN and Preserve is fun to play & watch the DGPT in person! Scorable and flat but has teeth and comes down to the wire every time. Black Bear plays way harder than couch commandos think (I've done Smuggs & MH, Iron Hill too so I have perspective)
About 20 minutes after your video went live Simon posted a video announcing Jerm to MVP and his first round w/him and Conrad. Ricky does have roughly 8 million Pigs to throw again tho. MVP made a good move picking up Jerm tho.
I think having a tournament at a pitch and putt course where everything is basically a part two would be way more interesting than these three hour long coverages where you can’t even see the basket if the cameraman doesn’t do a good job. I would rather see pros have ace potentials on every hole, more like mini putt, than an 800 yard drive into a Wide open fairway on a golf course
Re: Ricky talk. MVP could use a more “serious/professional” type player. They already have a hippy and a bunch of really fun guys. As far as Discraft… I just can’t imagine a world where Ricky and Paul are “teammates”. Especially if the tour ever leans towards a team format like the F1 format.
The big issue is what does Ricky want to be paid vs. what value does he bring it a brand. He's shown he isn't worth a $1M this year and it's hard to step down from that level of money.
@trev3971 you seem to follow this pretty closely. I really just work make content for fun and watch it. What do you think the outcome with Ricky will be?
I think a great balance is Milo McIver. You've got the long technical holes, and the 220' must gets that aren't easy. I've played there. But not the tourney layout. It's in my top 3 to watch and play.
Does Discraft even have enough $$$ to pay Ricky? Their lineup is huge. I hope Ricky goes to MVP. Because I think they also make the plastic for MINT discs, and I like MINT discs. but that is just a rumor I heard. -- Ricky to MVP would be cool
Does anyone know if it has to be a disc manufacturer? Could a huge retailer pay ricky a healthy amount and all him to throw a open bag? ( Example- Play it again Sports or Walmart)
@trev3971 lack of knowledge but also wanting their foot in the door. I only said Walmart because of the DD and Walmart deal. Probably won't happen. Im just a big fan of rivals and him going to Discraft i feel like it would kill that rivalry with mcbeth.
Covering a B tier actually sounds kind of cool. Even if its only once. That would be interesting. Maybe attend the local league the week before the event?
I was the one who commented on the courses being too easy. I completely disagree with you guys. The issue is when you have a dozen+ people shooting double digits. If you were in MA1 and you played against a guy in MA3 on a short pitch n putt par 3 course, and he beats you, are you really gonna say that was a true test of who’s the better disc golf player. For the top pros, these “easy” courses and a walk in the park and don’t challenge their shots, but challenges their consistency. Look at it historically. Ken climo wins 9 world championships in a row (91’-98’) then the courses start to get harder. He’s no longer on the winning streak. Then new stars like McBeth and Wysocki rise to the top (14’-20’) and start winning everything. The bar gets pushed again and we start seeing new and uniques winners (21’-23’). The players in our current field have reached the new bar, and without pushing the bar back it’s just gonna get crammed at the top, aka dozens of people shooting double digits. How are we possibly going to push the next generation of disc golfers to go above and beyond if we keep courses easy. Also, to address your point of people “like seeing birdies,” it’s not very impressive when 4 people on a card throw a 550 stock hyzer and all jump putt to the basket. And your point on people “don’t like seeing double bogeys; that’s not impressive.” To that I say it makes the people playing well look even more impressive. When the top players take a double bogey on a hard wooded hole, that puts in even more perspective on say Casey White’s laser beam through the trees for birdie. Calvin made the same argument on Tour-Life once, so I know this is not a small community stance. These opinions are definitely not dwindling, and I’d be happy to debate you guys, my stance is firm on this.
I have to agree with most of what you said. Yes, post Climo era, the courses did begin to get tougher. Some of this was due to disc technology, others due to challenge. I was very fortunate to be around when Idlewild was first put in the ground. I remember playing the first tourney there. It was a local "course challenge" series. To say it was difficult is an understatement. The course made sure to penalize you if you missed the LZ or other layup areas. I would rather see tourneys at courses like this than an open golf course any day. As one of the course designers said to me, "this course will make you think about every shot." Since I started playing, this is exactly the type of course I prefer. It rewards accuracy and consistency and takes away the "stock hyzer" as you put it.
I have a feeling that Rick might get the shaft bc all the other manufacturers already made their plans and their budgets are limited, unless he's been in talks for a while now but I'm not sure if I get that vibe.
@@NWKastaways At the end of the day, manufacturers are about the bottom line. If Ricky doesn't move a lot of their product, then why pay him something crazy or anything at all? I never see him promote anywhere near the others. Don't get me wrong. He is a great player and should get paid.
I hope he gets shafted. Dude has an ego and needs to eat some humble pie. I'm usually a well-wishes kind of person...but seen his shitty ego in person.
Talking about using hay bales to define various lines, I think the DGPT should have a ton of the 3' decorative artificial bushes that they could use at tournaments that need better defined lines. When talking about for DGN viewing, open courses could benefit the most from better visual references.
Who gives a shit how long it is. If people don’t fall in love with it that’s fine. We don’t need to change the sport just to make it “bigger”. Take a look at motocross or moto gp. They never changed and are bigger than ever. If you like it great if not then who cares!
Jerm being on mvp is hilarious because I’ve had mvp team members talk mad shit about jerm and then post yesterday about how stoked they are jerm is joining the team 😂😂😂 I swear integrity is missing from disc golf. No loyalty, no honesty, just say or do whatever gets you paid. And y’all wonder why disc golf is dying. It’s gotten so bad, tds are posting on Facebook basically begging people to sign up for their tournament. Could it be the idea that no matter who you follow or like, next week they might be somewhere else? Or could it be the sanctioning body doesn’t listen to members? Or could it be dgn/dgpt had made no progress is viewing or filming? The list goes on.
Omg I can barely listen to you narrate let alone have to stare at you sit on the couch. No thanks. Y’all didn’t have time to actually pump out a proper video since the MVP announcement this morning, but had to get out there before everyone else, so we get this? Ugh.

climo is not playing for discraft, was my understanding. they were just helping him by giving him his own line of discs
He will essentially have his own company, made by discraft, similar to DGA

Real talk, check the white balance in the wide angle camera. It’s very noticeable when you move to the close up shots
I heard Ricky to MVP, from a source I trust.
That makes more sense than Discraft. I don't see Ricky going to the same manufacturer as McBeth.
What about discmania with Gannon?
