Bottom line: Tesla delivers cars with issues. Their quality control isn’t the best, and almost nobody will argue that point. For most owners, the overall experience is great, and well worth it to have the best electric cars with features like autopilot.
There are many Model Y Issues, and Model Y Problems. Tesla’s Answer to this is Service appointments.
    At my first appointment:
There were a couple of areas around the car where paint was missing.
To fix this, Tesla actually ended up sending it to a contracted paint shop to fix the issues. They fixed it, but left some swirl marks.
    2. The second issue I had was the rear seat alignment. It’s pretty clear that the right seat sits further forward, at a different angle, and higher.
Tesla told me that they don’t have a fix for this yet, since the new Model Y was so new.
    3. The trim on the top, connecting to the glass roof came kind of loose, and seemed to not be adhered correctly.
Tesla tried to fix this, but overall it just kind of ended up being the same.
The first thing I tried to fix at my next service appointment again was the rear seat alignment.
Again, same issue. Tesla said that they don’t have a fix for this issue yet. Pretty frustrating.
    2. The second Model Y issue I was having was that the frunk was showing that it was open, when it wasn’t.
Tesla replaced the sensor and the latch for the front trunk. The issue has come back though…
    3. The third issue I had was when the window didn’t roll down properly. It caused a gash on the trim from not rolling down.
Tesla replaced the trim for free, and it looks good, except the back kind of has this new gap, so yeah…it’s fixed, but also worse back here? I’ll probably mention it at another appointment.
    4. The fourth issue I had was that the rear headrests would squeak whenever I hit a bump.
    Tesla fixed it!
    5. The fifth issue was a rattle in the rear seats. Since they aren’t aligned properly, they buzz together when I hit a bump.
Tesla again said they couldn’t fix this, but this time said they do have a solution, that is being shipped.
    6. I mentioned to Tesla that the car kind of has this settling sound when the car is any amount of uneven, going into a steep driveway or anything.
I actually forgot about this issues, and don’t think Tesla addressed it, because it is still there.
    7. The front headlight had this issue where it would push in really easily. I noticed it when I was washing the car, and it wasn’t the same on the other side.
Tesla fixed this, but it was still there when I saw it. Then I pressed on it, and it fixed it?
About an hour after the appointment, I noticed that this trim wasn’t aligned correctly, at the driver’s side, and that there was some kind of stain on the back of the rear seat.
However, there will always be exceptions. I’ve seen plenty of people on Twitter, who own multiple Teslas, and have gotten fed up with their service.
If you’re planning to buy a Model Y, or are taking delivery soon, here is what I would look out for.
First, if you’re picky about fit and finish, check out a Model Y in person. If it’s good, you can always reject delivery if it doesn’t live up to your expectations.
Second, If you think the good will outweigh the bad for you, which I personally think would be the case for most people, here’s what to check for when taking delivery to ensure they have it on record.
The rear seat alignment that I mentioned Is a common Tesla Model Y problem
Paint issues, mostly where it is missing like it was for me.
    Noises and buzzes while driving
Ensure that the rear seats collapse properly when you press the buttons in the rear.
Ensure that the trunk opens and closes properly.
Look for any scratches on the plastic in the car.
Look for any areas where the trim isn’t applied properly to the roof.
Make sure that the drivers side window functions properly.

They’re selling a car in the luxury price segment so certain expectations must be met. If you can’t meet it, stop production bad fix those issues before resuming. Tesla diehards excusing them for everything is the reason for their nonchalant attitude towards quality.

    • @hansenluu

ParadoxlnABox My point is no one is forcing you to buy. Its true there are quality issue. Which will get better over time. Did you miss where you can return the car in 7 days? The early adopters is also responsible for Tesla behaviors for not returning.

    • @ParadoxlnABox
      @ParadoxlnABox 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Namiie We agree that the Tesla diehards are largely responsible for Tesla’s poor quality control. If I were in Elon Musk’s place and my compensation was directly related to stock performance, which was in turn related to cars sold, I’d cut corners if no one called me out on it. But this is not a good look for Tesla.
I had previously considered buying a Tesla in the not too far off future but definitely not if their QC is this terrible. I’ll wait and hopefully a growing customer base will too. Only when they get their crap together will I even consider a Tesla. You can have great torque, acceleration, tech, etc. But if you can’t make your door panels align or keep your seats from sitting right, you’re not getting my money. I hope others feel the same way.

Say I just spent $60000 on a car, I wouldn't expect to have to then immediately return it because the quality of the vehicle is below standard and can't be fixed. Not only that, but I can now no longer buy a replacement of that same car just because the company says I can't, despite it being their issues. What you're saying is that I should go out of my way and be inconvenienced after giving Tesla $60000 just because they won't improve QC.
They're not just selling a car, they're selling a car with the same price as a luxury car, but with issues (that even some low price EVs don't have) occuring more often than they should for the price.
If Tesla wants to carry on as the most valuable vehicle manufacturer, they need to spend money in QA and QC rather than just R&D. A car is more than just it's Drivetrain and Infotainment, and Tesla needs to acknowledge that.

Dude, I totally get you. I have a few of the issues that you have had with my Model Y. Almost all of my issues are fit and finish. You should see the entire trim on my rear hatch. It's got a gap so big that I can stick my entire hand down the hole in between the rear glass and the trim. They are apparently going to replace the entire thing, let's hope that they do... This would be my 4TH APPOINTMENT with them. I am also worried that this is... my new life? It's frustrating and I get you.

So I've been in the EXACT same boat as you just with the Model 3. I absolutely love my car. But early VIN, so there is a laundry list of issues every few months. In the two years that I've owned my car, it's probably been in service 15 times without any exaggeration. Mostly fit and finish issues, squeaks and rattles, and some faulty hardware. I hate to break it to you, but unfortunately this is the life you're forced to live with an early model. I have learned my lesson and will never get another Tesla below VIN 100,000. I know so many current owners that have had zero issues with their cars, but none of them are early builds. And I've talked to quite a few people, considering I run the everythingtesla Instagram. The only thing I would truly caution you on is to MAKE SURE you take care of any rattles or squeaks before 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first). It's not covered under warranty after that, which sucks, because on occasion I still get the squeak that I took my car to service 3 times for to fix. Hopefully, you don't have as many problems as I have had, but best of luck regardless! (:

It sounds like there is some serious buyers remorse that you're trying to overcome by saying you still love the car.
You should expect better out of a vehicle and an automaker than what you have experienced.

Hi. I really enjoyed your videos. So you recommend to wait for the model Y until those quality control issues are fix? Or get the model 3 now that all those major issues are fix? It is common knowledge that even with luxury German brands, first model year is trouble. Not just because production is not perfect, but also service doesn't have experience fixing the issues. Take a look at BMW forums and you'll see similar issues especially for first model year cars. Your video is factual, and I would be as adamant as you are to get these fixed, but perspective is important. Recognize that you jumped through hoops to get one of the first cars that rolled off the line, and give it a bit of time to get it made perfect...

Thanks Ryan, feels like what I also had before, I buy one year a go TM3(June 2019) also had a lot of issues even if this was already 1 year in production, but still lots of appiontment to get this issues fixed. I had my last appoint one month ago which fixed my last issue (I was there 4x to get this fixed) that was whisle nois from driver mirrow. So took me 11 months to get all done, but I also need to wait every time ~1,5-2 month for follow up appointment. So I think you need a car with less issues wait 2-3 years after realse and then buy. Then you will only have 2-3 smaller issues :). Fried of my buy a new TM3 very fresh and he only have 2-3 smaller one, so looks like 3 years is good for tesla.

I got my Model 3 in September 2018. Never a single problem until the charger port still worked fine, but lost one of its open-command functions. I got an appointment with mobile service, and it was repaired at my home in less than an hour.
Second appointment was not an issue - HW install. Again, mobile service (this requires good WiFi which I have at my home). The service guy did a complete job including all OTA updates. He happened to notice someone had used a black sharpie on my midnight silver metallic paint. He fixed it while waiting for one of the software updates.
So, GREAT SERVICE, only a minor issue with the charging door that caused me no inconvenience, and zero maintenance over the 21 months I've had the car.
I also had a Model S for over three years prior to the Model 3. A few service issues, but all of them dealt with on time, expertly and with great service people. I've owned a lot of cars in my life, but never anything as good as my Teslas.
