      And let's not forget the old tights-pulling, and feet on the ropes, and all the unfair pinning advantages too.
      But yeah I wholeheartedly agree your point. Wrestling died a long time ago. I'll start watching again when rises from the grave again.
      If 30 dives into a crowd of bunched up people waiting to catch you is your thing; if kicking out of 15 F5s is your thing; if watching them do a bunch of moves _at_ each other without any selling or psychology is your thing....
      ... well, then I'm happy for you, because you're getting what you want these days - but I also feel sorry for you, because you're missing out on an actual decent wrestling match

It was done after inflicting enough punishment, and B. In real life, if someone had you upside down with your head pointed to the ground, you wouldnt try to struggle and make it worse.
      Todays wrestlers almost ALL look like they are waiting for their spot, whether its tag teams waiting on the floor outside, holding each others hands on the top rope, and overall not selling with their faces, they make it look way too obvious that they are just waiting to get their shit in, not reacting like its a fight.

  • @Jomon2006
    @Jomon2006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Agree with everything but the “tweener”. Fans have the power to change you from heel to babyface and vice-versa. If the change isn’t a quick turn then you are a tweener. Team Taz is the perfect example. There are also bad examples, like Penta. The Blackpool Combat Club are also tweeners.

    • @james_the_animator
      @james_the_animator 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You notice that the business has never been as lucrative as it was before tweener characters were commonly promoted. Sure, there are many other factors for that decline, but I’d say that tweeners have as much to do with it as the spot monkeys throwing themselves through tables. At the end of the day, people generally want clear-cut heels and babyfaces to hate and rally behind, respectively.

Like a superplex, powerbomb, piledriver etc. The only finishes now-a--days are finishing moves and surprise roll-ups. It would add suspense to the match if wrestlers started winning with a tornado ddt out of nowhere or a sit down powerbomb, that way the fans will never know when the match will end instead of only the "finishing moves" ending the match.

    Those tweets Jim were reading were all so obvious. I'm not a wrestler and have never trained to be one or have been involved in any wrestling show ever but 90% of that stuff was obvious to me strictly from being a fan. So why are today's wrestlers so resistant to this stuff? Usually people resist stuff that is difficult or unpleasant to do. But most of today's wrestlers are really athletic and can do difficult moves and are willing to take crazy unpleasant bumps. So they're doubling down on working harder and resisting working smarter, which doesn't even make sense from either a laziness or incompetence perspective. If guys were just working two minute punch and kick matches and didn't want to do anything beyond that I could get it. But they would rather backflip off ladders then work headlocks which is baffling in its stupidity.

    "Only on the big show"
    If a thing has impact that impact is multiplied by the number of people seeing it. So you get the maximum impact either by doing something over and over and over on small shows (without repeating in front of the same audience) or only on the big show. In today's world that basically means only on the big show. I am not in the industry and I don't know any more about wrestling than anyone else, but I understand logic and reason and I understand why "only on the big show" is the only thing that makes sense.

    Unfortunately this doesn't matter anymore because everyone is in on how wrestling works. The guys in the ring are working together (in most cases anyways 😮‍💨...) to make the matches look good and to get over with the crowd. This would of been good information to have say 25 years ago before they really ruined it permanently. Now it's over and wrestling will probably never reach the highs it did before. Because everyone is in on it.

But then , Vince didn't want to deal with state athletic regulations anymore so he SECRETLY created a special secret locker room language and by the nineties he changed it to a circus 🎪 without anyone's knowledge. It was such an American tragedy because Hogan and Piper and Paul Ordorff and Mr. T had legit fisticuffs at Wrestlemania one but by Wrestlemania seven the CIA launched an investigation and discovered Sargent Slaughter really didn't work for Iraq and after a six month investigation it was revealed that Col. Mustafa was really just the Iron Shiek. That was the day my childhood ended. 😢

      This is absolutely wrong. At the point Wrestling became scripted (early 1920s) it was already clear how it’s going to end up. More and more people are going to know but its impossible to create the expression that a scripted fight is real. That’s not what pro wrestling is suppose to be and never was. That’s why there is Amateur Wrestling (real wrestling) or Boxing, Mma etc.

    Sadly, many of todays shows make this impossible for me since i can't overlook some cooperation. At the moment the Young Bucks try to dunk a basketball while doing their tag team maneuvers... well it just ruins what i am hoping for in Wrestling.

Facial expression and body language from you and your oppt. is 90% of what you get...moves do NOT matter but guys seem to think they need 1000 moves and 1000 bumps to get a reaction. This is roughly where I am. AEW’s much more watchable now than it was two years ago, even though I still get exhausted an hour in and usually need to finish it later. There’s enough wrestling talent, now there just needs to be enough authoritative backstage folks to whip them into line.
      Honestly, losing Cody and Omega recuperating has been a quiet boon (especially since the EVP titles have been shown to be more ceremonial than authoritative). The Elite booking themselves into total annoyance killed AEW’s strongest growth potential their first two years or so. The more experienced names able to get Tony’s ear, the less crap has been on-screen.
      It’s still exhausting, but at least more of it has been watchable week to week.

    "When did 'resthold' become a common term?"
    Probably when Yokozuna was champ and most of his matches were him doing a nerve pinch for 5 minutes of a 7 minute match. To me that's what "resthold" means, just grabbing a hold for 5 seconds to catch your breath or figure out the next spot isn't a resthold. A resthold is laying in some terrible looking hold for minutes on end because you're too fat/blown up/shitty to do anything else.

    One of the most illogical things I ever saw was Josh Stroud chasing this heel that had called him the n-word. The heel ran into the ridiculously flimsy plywood "dressing room" that had been tacked up in the corner of this old shop building. Stroud beat on the door, obviously trying not to beat the damn thing down, and the entire "dressing room" structure shaking violently, despite Stroud's efforts. That tiny wrestling in that tiny town featured Action Mike Jackson, Raging Bull Randy Barber, Juicy Johnny, and the late great David Baker, plus occasional appearances by Ginger the Bear.
