Hi Gary... yes, I did watch your comparison of early Martin model 1 ukuleles this summer. No joke. You must be happy that the book about Martin ukes just came out! It's a real gem. I like how you show the Taropatch. Nice to hear it in action!
It's nice to see all the vintage experts' info about Martins finally in ONE PLACE in that cool book! Woohoo! I have a uke friend in Chicago who often sends me deals he sees about vintage Martin ukes I would like. I will eventually buy one, one day, but I just have too many ukes now and I can't cope with anymore.
Pete! I just got my first Martin Concert Style 2 last Friday 😊😊😊. To be honest, on the first strum I love it right away. I can’t find any fault at it. I love it!!! I want to buy the Soprano version but it’s discontinued 😞😞😞. Again! I’m happy with it🤗🤗🤗
Hi IAM. Congrats! Having a great instrument inspires those who are ready to get really good! That's what happened to me. I had only crappy musical instruments all my life and that hindered me, like eating bad food while trying to get healthy. So cool you got a concert 2! Great, man! Your "first strum" moment reminds of my first strum moment in Berlin, Germany when I was in the music store with that Martin S-O that I took off the wall that was overpriced due to European prices. It shocked me to my musical core. I was expecting NADA!!!! I played that first chord and said, "I'm buying this!!!!" In German: Sie kaufe ich sofort!!!! I brought that S-O uke back to my hotel room and fell in love with it and wrote a second in two days "Room 51 in Kreuzberg." Martin ukes resonate with my musical being and inspire me to create. I'm glad you are on the same path, my friend! As for the discontinued S2... after my cherry 3 uke, that is my second fav. soprano, then followed by my 2k tenor uke.
Peter Forrest , they are truly inspiring, I’m always a fan of Martin Guitars even though I don’t own 1 yet. The ukulele is just So resonant , I can tell by the weight itself that the wood is so good and so light! I was looking at that Cherry style 3 , 3 years ago at Elderly Instruments site but after a few months it went out of production 😞. Again , I’m happy with this uke!
I really enjoy watchin your vids, dear Peter. Delightful as usual ! Martin should really thank you once ;)... Go ahead buddy, keep on makin us smile ! =)
Yes that is an incredible book, but most of it was known by us Martinistas (g). Tom Walsh also is active on a site that I frequent and was generous about providing information. So have you gotten a vintage Martin yet?
Of the mahogany Martins, OVERALL (shipwrecked on an Island...ha) which Martin would you want with you? regardless of style, Soprano, Concert or Tenor????
The new style 2 mahogany that they stopped making. It's the best of all them and I had them all including the style 3, concert, and tenor. They are all too boomy. The style 2 has the perfect sound.
Nice review and playing as usual. I think you're starting to run out of Martins though, what's next? How about Kamaka? All kidding aside I enjoy your videos, keep at it and thank you.
Hi Peter, Do you know what to do about putting a low G on a Martin C12 ukulele? The hole is too small to put in the Aquilla low G string for concert ukes. Is there an alternative? Thank you.
+Clarisa Barua : Hi! I assume you mean a Martin C1K. The nut needs to be filed to accommodate the larger low G string. That can be risky unless an expert does it. You might go on the ukuleleunderground forum and ask but I'm pretty sure that's what has to be done.
I thought Martin sent out there ukes set up. It's just in the past, I had some way lower quality ukes in my earlier uke life and the set up just exchanged one problem for another. Not sure I understand the process. However, I will eventually sell the tenor style 2 since the style 2k that I know have is perfect. No set up needed and I prefer its crystal sound. 8-) The style 2 tenor is too booming to sing with.
Thanks Jim. I started to feel like I was repeating myself in my Martin review vids so I winged this one and got more personal. People seem to like that even more. I wasn't expecting that. LOL Still, I always have to work out something interesting to play on the said instrument. That's tricky!
Still keep going back and playing the Soprano Ukes the most. When you played the Concert, Soprano and Tenor in succession, it was the Soprano that appealed to my ears/senses the most..
+Peter Forrest Merry Christmas too, Pete! I hope Santa was good to you... I got a Jake Shimabukaro CD and some other Uke accessories to go along with my big Christmas present - the Martin Cherry 3. I agree about the Soprano. It is, after all, the quintessential ukulele... By the way how is your Ukulele Instructor course coming along?
+Uke Den : How is that 3 cherry? My Christmas was pretty low key this year since my parents are now both gone. The James Hill uke initiative course is fine. I need to get more organized in 2016.
+Peter Forrest My wife and I are taking the kids for a second Christmas on Friday at a get together at my aunts where the 3 Cherry was sent to. So I won't have my anxious hands on it until then. I'm sorry to hear about you mom and dad, both my parents have too passed, and Christmas has always been less celebratory to me. I did, however, get 2 Vintage Sopranos also considered as Christmas gifts, a '60s Martin S-0 in Mint condition, and a '50s Favilla Soprano U3 in VG+ condition. I sent you a link to them in the UU mailbox... I'm about to pour myself a spirit, so I will raise my glass here in NY and turn to the north and raise my glass for a toast in honor of you, my ukulele friend. Your Ukulele friend, Den
Merci mille fois pour tes commentaires. It's hard to come up with new ideas for these uke video reviews but people seem to be cheered up by me just talking or playing all the same. hehe
My kidergartener was very wishfully thinking that as you had three, you had too many and maybe were giving them away. I never knew she even wanted one, and I assume she didn't know she did either. We have watched two of your other songs besides this video, and she is pretty interested. We also made a portrait for you, so I will be sure to take the photo and upload it with my other artwork today. I realized that we forgot to add your beret and glasses, so in the picture, you might be about to sing the "where is my black beret?" song.. But since it is a night-time picture, the mood might remind you of the one about the stars.
Glad my ukulele musical follies are inspiring the little ones from the younger generation! I can't go on forever so someone has to continue on in the uke madness! hehe Please send me a link to the portrait. I can forgo the black beret and glasses once in while... hehe
Night Under The Stars....beautiful! Thanks for this...
Thanks. No one seems to like this except me. (and you) merci.

Nice to see a new video, Peter! A good review, as always. Glad to see you are having fun.
Martin should sponsor you.
Petey, you always make me smile - in a good way - whether on the forums or here at TH-cam.

Dear friend... just explore that uke and create some great music so I can be proud!
Thanks! It's nice to send a bit of cheerfulness to others!

Sounds like time for you to travel again! In search of music for the Concert with the concert!
Peter, great playing! Beautiful sounding Martin! :-)
Yes that is an incredible book, but most of it was known by us Martinistas (g). Tom Walsh also is active on a site that I frequent and was generous about providing information. So have you gotten a vintage Martin yet?
Hello Pete, do you still play the Martin concert ukulele? What is your favorite Ukulele size? What’s your least favorite? Thanks
Yes and yes. Soprano is still my fav but the 2k Martin concert (not the style 2 concert) is still my fav concert
.
Peter, did you ever take a look at the vintage Martin comparison videos on my channel? cheers, gary
I know...a road trip to Nazareth, PA!

Thanks. I have a new style 3 and a 2K tenor but I'd rather do a real song for my next video. Though, you're right. I'm getting a bit Martined out.
Nice review and playing as usual. I think you're starting to run out of Martins though, what's next? How about Kamaka? All kidding aside I enjoy your videos, keep at it and thank you.

Excellent, try a Kiwaya next :)
If the action is bad on the tenor why not get it set up?
i want a c1K i don't know if you have it
about intonation-action i don't know if it's good enough
Been away. I played a C1K action and the intonation and action were very acceptable.
@@PeteyHoudini ok thanks, i think i want a concert size but the sound of the soprano sounds better to me !
what about the c1K?
The C1K is a fine instrument. I have a C2K tenor and someone with a C1K at the uke jam tried it. I tried it too. Sounded great.
Still keep going back and playing the Soprano Ukes the most. When you played the Concert, Soprano and Tenor in succession, it was the Soprano that appealed to my ears/senses the most..
+Uke Den : Hope you're having a nice Christmas. The soprano is the most fun to play. My 2k tenor sounds great but it is not strummed like a soprano.

+Uke Den: A toast to the New Year, Den and to much music from your many ukes! hehe

Very interesting , I would choose the concert size, for me the best size ;-)
I love Latin music, please play more.
I will try. I love it too.
i though t the Martin 2K is solid Koa not mahogany
Martin made a style 2 mahogany and a style 2K koa
