He wrote and directed multiple classic, culture-defining American movies. He created groundbreaking documentaries, interviewing Putin, debunking Russiagate, and uncovering JFK’s murder. He won three Academy Awards.
There was only one thing left for Oliver Stone to do: Become a Useful Idiot.
Stone’s new documentary, JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, uses newly declassified and reexamined footage to present a case that conspiracy theories about the president’s death are actually “conspiracy facts.”
And it creates a big debate on Useful Idiots. Watch the pod, watch the doc, then let us know: do you agree with Matt, Katie, or Oliver? Who really killed President John F. Kennedy?
Plus, this week’s Dems and Republicans Suck finally breaks Matt, leading to an impassioned stump speech of the good of all Americans. Once we stop laughing, we’re pretty sure we’ll realize he’s telling the truth.
It’s Oliver Stone on Useful Idiots. Don’t miss this one.

haha, the UI revenue. I get it. I haven't watched the interview yet, but I can only assume noone asked Oliver Stone if Scarface was implicitly pro Castro while explicitly anti Castro, and I wouldn't mind a definitive answer. I think the answer is yes, but maybe I'm projecting.

Ads AND I can only see half the interview unless I pay $5/month? It's the worst of both worlds for someone who makes $12/hour. If I paid $5/month to all the podcasts I like on the "only 50% is free" model I'd be out a day's pay. Of those podcasts, yours is the only one that also has embedded ads. It seems kinda grubby to me. (Edit: Respectfully, I should say. I've been a huge fan of Matt's since before podcasting and would like to see him be Chris Hedges' speechwriter when Hedges runs for President in 2024.)

The Zapruder film shows what one would expect from a shot from the rear. There is an initial spray of bloody mist forward from the exit point at the front of the President's head, followed by a movement backwards from Kennedy's head and upper body which was probably caused by a nerve spasm. Chunks of skull and brain matter were projected upwards and backwards in the direction of the shooter. The energy of a bullet, or bullet fragments, passing through an object is expressed as torque reaction backwards rather than a push forwards. That's called "blowback". It is a well-recognized phenomenon.

"If Kennedy had succeeded".... America might have become the "more perfect union" it aspires to be. That chance passed. In half a century the US unraveled. Greed and lust for power crushed the talent and vision that could unite the nation and turned it into a dystopia of alienation, larceny and violence. JFK was a great champion, a political talent up to the task of world peace and prosperity. Cut down in his prime by USA Inc.

I encourage everyone interested in JFK to read “JFK and the Unspeakable: Why he died and why it matters” by James Douglass. It’s a very dense read, but it echos a lot of what Oliver Stone was saying about Kennedy being killed because he wanted peace. The book details how JFK became convinced of the necessity for peace through his correspondence with Khrushchev and also Thomas Merton. Fascinating book.

    • @kennethg9277
      @kennethg9277 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's all conjecture though. Kennedy's actual *actions*, which is what you should judge a leader by, were exactly like every other warmongering president ever. If he was whacked in a large, wide ranging conspiracy, it would have leaked, because they always do. If he was whacked by some small group of right wing dissidents, or by the Mafia, or by a wealthy jealous husband, who cares? I don't.

    • @kennethg9277
      @kennethg9277 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@kathiek4239 The fact that Kennedy followed advisors' recommendations and provisionally scheduled a withdrawal from Vietnam YEARS in the future, isn't a very strong argument that he would have done anything differently to his successor had he survived. Johnson stayed in Vietnam due to institutional and systemic pressures that Kennedy would also have been subjected to had he lived. And Kennedy showed no particular peacemaking tendencies in any arena while he was alive. His regime was very violent and warmongering, in fact, and he personally was a violent and vindictive sort of man.
      -
Presidents DON'T tend to make wide, sweeping changes to policy, because despite the pomp and ceremony of the figurehead position, they are broadly speaking just a figurehead, and have been for generations. That's why Trump's policy wasn't significantly different from Obama's, which wasn't significantly different from Bush's, etc. etc. The "Camelot" concept of JFK's regime as a whole is based on some false ideas about how power in America works.

The way Oliver Stone is discussing the JFK assassination is reminiscent of the discussion of the sacking of the 1975 Dismissal of the Gough Whitlam Labor Government in Australia. It's the same deal. There is evidence both the CIA and MI6 wanted Whitlam gone (don't forget this was around the time the CIA was getting rid of leftist leaders in places like Chile) because Whitlam was posturing to a more nationalist economic position, but also toward a position of peace. And the population? Uninterested.

    • @EchoBravo370
      @EchoBravo370 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Rumours say he wanted to get rid of Pine Gap and the White House was apoplectic about it. Who knows...? It would be hilarious if the CIA were involved in Whitlam's dismissal because the bloody Queen got blamed for it for a long time and nearly lost her head of state status in the 90's referendum in part because of it. But she survived. Also hilariously the Fraser govt that replaced Whitlam enacted the establishment of SBS, a second national broadcaster. So we don't have it so hard in Oz when we have right wing parties willing to found national broadcasters and enact gun control (in mid 90's). Honestly, we're pretty damn lucky.

@@EchoBravo370 I know about Pine Gap. I believe that was why. The Queen did rightly receive some blame but I feel that was the distraction. It was most likely the CIA. The play had its world premiere on 2 January 1921 in Hradec Králové; it introduced the word "robot" to the English language and to science fiction as a whole. This! Also, adding that the word robot has it's root in the word 'robota' which means hard labor. Robots in Capek's notion of the word were meant to take the place of the poorest class of laborers, essentially automating away their place in society. But the robot was also a symbolic representation of the working poor, that's why later in the play they rise up against their overlords.

      @@SoundTourist You mean these?
Stone: Mayor Cabell changed parade route to assist assassins.
Truth: Parade route was never changed and you can't drift between lanes in Dealey Plaza.
Stone: Conspirator has fake seizure in plaza, disappears.
Truth: Jerry Belknap went to Parkland Hospital after recovering from real seizure.
      Stone: Oswald a lousy shot.
Truth: Oswald scored 18 out of 20 in rapid fire at targets 200 yards away as per his Marines scorebook.
Stone: Cops invade theater to arrest a man for not paying admission.
Truth: The man, Oswald, was a good match for the suspect just seen murdering a police officer nearby.
Stone: Mean cops rough up unarmed Oswald in the theater.
Truth: Oswald tried to shoot the first cop to approach him with his gun and fought so violently 3 officers were injured just disarming him.
[Those officers risked their lives to capture their suspect alive as per their duty, but as you can see by now Stone doesn't give a damn who he paints as a conspirator and traitor so long as it suits him...]
Stone: 2 actors seated bolt upright, facing forward, demolish Arlen Spector's "gross lie" of single bullet theory.
Truth: Connally was seated lower, inboard and turned sharply to his right, strengthening single bullet theory.
Stone: 3 shots over 5.6 seconds.
Truth: 3 shots over 8.9 seconds, as victims' reactions in Zapruder's film clearly demonstrate.
Stone: Head shot would have to be through heavy foliage.
Truth: Oswald's POV at time of the head shot was clear.
Stone: Jean Hill sees knoll shooter, is immediately seized, sequestered and menaced.
Truth: Hill was making no such claims in the 1960's, nor on live TV when interviewed the day of the assassination.
Stone: Everything pertaining to Beverly Oliver character.
Truth: Oliver is a demonstrable liar and grifter who could not possibly have been the "Babushka Lady"
[So, naturally, Stone snapped her up as an "advisor."]
Stone: D.C. phone system goes down after assassination.
Truth: System was overloaded but most calls went through just fine.
Stone: 112th Military Intelligence Group ordered to "stand down."
Truth: Flatly contradicted by sworn HSCA testimony of C.O. of Group, which provided extra men to assist Secret Service in Dallas.
Stone: Justice Department "does nothing" with regard to HSCA's conclusions of "probable conspiracy."
Truth: The JD had the Ramsey Panel investigate the evidence used by the HSCA to reach that conclusion, the dictabelt recording, which was discovered to be erroneous and invalid as evidence. It was firmly debunked more than 40 years ago.
Stone: Officer Tippit shot by 2 men.
Truth: Clemons' words make it clear enough she saw at best a shooter and a bystander, who would have been standing pretty much exactly where Frank Cimino would have been after running out of his house on hearing the shooting.
Hilariously, Stone never mentions that other witnesses much closer to Tippit than Clemons said there was only one shooter.
Stone: Fake bullet planted at Parkland Hospital.
Truth: The bullet was matched directly to Oswald's rifle, and hilariously Stone never explains how anybody planting that bullet within one hour of the assassination could possibly have known a bullet needed planting at all or that he wasn't simply planting one bullet too many into evidence and blowing the whole plot.
Stone: Witnesses on TSBD steps never see Oswald coming downstairs.
Truth: They came downstairs after he did and hilariously Stone never explains how the "real killers" got out of the building because they never reported seeing them either.
Stone: 3 fake hobos fake arrested, disappear.
Truth: The tramps, Harold Doyle, Gus Abrams, and John Forrester Gedney, were ID'd, cleared and released with no evidence against them, their arrest records existing to this day. Doyle has been interviewed on camera several times.
Stone: Jackie pulls JFK down, allowing Connally to be shot.
Truth: She blatantly did no such thing.
Stone: Jim Garrison advised by mysterious "Mr. X."
Truth: Mr. X never existed, he was based on notorious demonstrable liar and crackpot Fletcher Prouty, the man who proved flying saucers are real.
Stone: Limo filled with bullet holes.
Truth: Only damage to limo was a crack to the windshield and its chrome plating caused by a bullet crack and both still in the National Archives.
Stone: Garrison makes stirring speech to jury.
      Truth: This never happened.
Stone: Guilt-ridden David Ferrie starts cooperating with Garrison, is murdered.
Truth: Ferrie, who died of Berry aneurysm after failing health, always hotly denied any knowledge of the assassination, and was preparing to sue Garrison for harassment.
      Stone: "Backyard" photos faked.
Truth: Marina Oswald affirms the photos are genuine, she took them at her husband's request, and extensive analysis over the years has failed to find any evidence of fakery.
      Stone: Lee Bowers murdered.
Truth: Bowers' car crash came some 2 years after he had already testified and was investigated by the police, the HSCA and by researcher David Perry, none of whom found any evidence of murder.
Stone: Garrison makes compelling case for conspriacy.
Truth: Garrison's "case" rested on a witness (Russo) so unreliable he never even appears in the movie, it fell apart within minutes of reaching Garrison's hand-picked jury, and the ABA soundly condemned him for his despicable and unprofessional conduct.
Hilariously Stone doesn't mention that Garrison implicated 3 newspapers, 2 television networks, Bobby Kennedy, Johnny Carson, lawyers defending people he suspected, conspiracy authors critical of him, a Marine buddy of Oswald's Garrison decided was an Oswald "lookalike", 3 governors (Ronald Reagan included), neo-Nazis, Cuban guerrillas, the telephone company ("an extension of the US government"), and masochists pulling off a "homosexual thrill killing."
There are many more, but it's gettin' late.

Eisenhower as a general, knew how advanced the military industrial congressional had become by the year 1960 at the time of his parting address. 3 years later, Kennedy was assassinated.
Eisenhower was instrumental in its creation, put in place to defeat the Germans and Japanese in world war 2. After the war, Eisenhower as president took this type of organization and built the interstate highway system but he saw that “defense industry” had taken on a life of its own in determining international policy even provoking conflicts in its own interest.
It will do no good to find the individual responsible for the Kennedy assassination because it was never an individual act. It is the Complex. The Complex is as big as the country and you will take down the entire country before you can stop it... and by that time they'll all be gone. (Search for Dylan's lyrics for “The Masters of War”)

Oliver Stone did not formulate the essential facts sharply enough.
Johnson made the decision to go full force into Vietnam only 3 days after the murder. Most witnesses agree that the last two shots came almost on top of each other, which proves at least two shooters as Oswald would have needed 2,8 second to load another shot. One came from the front the other from the back and hit at almost the same time.

I guess we'll have to wait unt 2075 until people are "serious people" are doubting and questioning the 5,000+ sketchy things surrounding 9/11. It's going to be very hard for even people are skeptical as Matt to tackle these types of events because the trauma of it is real to us because we lived through it. That trauma will color our critque to the pint where we won't even TOUCH it. I mean it won't take but 1 week of SERIOUS research into 9/11 to come out terrified about powerful people orchestrating the murder of thousands of Americans and convicing them to start a war over it.
