Right now I don’t think I can put in writing what I feel in my heart, this is a time of sorrow my wife LOIS of 66 years just passed away on Friday the 13th. What a wonderful life we shared together ,we started listening to Native American flute music about one year ago,it was our bed time sound ,only located CARLOS NAKAI canyon trilogy a few weeks prior to her passing away, she loved the sounds ,always went to sleep with it on ,I know she is one longer in pain, she is in GODS hands now.,well this 86 year old man will say thank you CARLOS FOR MAKING MY LIFE WORTH while.GOD BLESS ALL!FROM THE CA!WILD MAN!

I took my two younger boys out west many years ago on Amtrak from CHI to LA through the American SW. After travelling through CA by car, we returned the same Amtrak route. In Albuquerque, a Native American flutist got onboard and played in the club car until CO. They were mesmerized, as was I. I have played this healing earth music for much of my 78 yrs. and am always grateful for it. Archaeologists suggest that our ice-age cave dwelling Hunter-Gatherer ancestors played similar music with their bird bone flutes, perhaps while their fellows were painting the unparalleled animal scenes on their cave walls, which I consider the greatest artistic accomplishment of modern ice-age humans. Thanks for this!

This was my first Native Flute Cassette tape. In my view it's the best . Like the Bible of Flute . 10 years later I decided to learn to play . 10 years after that I have 25 Flutes . But I'm still a mediocre player . I would listen to this every day to keep me calm waiting for my son to be born . I was 43 at the time . My only child , he grew up hearing this and many other Native American Musicans.
Peaceful music. What the world needs now more than ever
I am a collector of native American cedar flute music. I have collected recordings from many different artists from different regions and tribes. I can say Canyon Trilogy is without a doubt my all time favorite. I still have my original cassette tape of it.
What flute does Carlos use? I bought an A minor flute from Butch Hall Native but I think it may sound too high in pitch
Paul.... have you ever seen a poem/song/teaching, that was in one of carlos's older tapes called"STAND AT THE CENTER"i dont remember which tape it was in, probably back in late 70'or 80s... been looking for this for a very long time...it was a paper insert in the tape box, along with a carlos tape

This takes me back to a time in my life when I was happy. It only lasted a while but in those moments I was taught the value of our great mother by a 5th generation Lakota grandmother. I long for that freedom once more. Waking up in a lodge and listening to my Lakota BF at the time play his Flute at dusk.
Aho Sanny, You mentioned that your happiness is currently being somewhat elusive. A Lakota man by the name of Billy Mills who was a long distance runner and 1960's Olympic gold medalist is the author of a book originally titled, Wokini, which was later retitled, Lessons Of A Lakota, helped me to be able to regain some of the happiness I had lost over the years. It basically taught me how to be happy again. I believe if you choose to read it that it could help you as well. Be well.

It is only evil and savage because that is what the European forced our people to believe. It was either convert to Christianity or be put to the sword.
Do not be afraid to seek out the great spirit. You will learn how to take care of mother earth, appreciate father sky and reconnect with our cousin's/creatures of our earth who have been here since before our time and who we have learned alot from. Our ancient traditions is not a religion, it is a way of life that brings peace and unity.

I live in Arizona and have lived and worked at Grand Canyon. The resonance of this CD, in particular, is reminiscent of being deep within the canyon. A perfect companion for Grand Canyon hiking. I have had this CD and others by R.Carlos Nakai for decades now. But, I must confess to one problem I have with Native American flute music, in general. Every gift shop in Arizona and New Mexico plays the music; and I find that I must fight off the urge to "buy Southwestern" whenever I hear it. It's like hearing the Wm. Tell Overture and not thinking of the Lone Ranger.
As a person who suffers from anxiety... This was an album introduced to me in 1998...and it helped so very much. I love this and love him. ❤️
This is beyond artistry...there is profound wisdom within Native American music...the notes seem to be saying, "We know without even having to think." The knowingness lies within and that is clear in Native American music
I was in the Denver Airport between flights years ago and I heard this haunting music. Dashed into the store and said" I have to have that, it the most amazing music. Bought 3 of his CD's (that;s all they had) and left. When I got home to Maryland, I realized I didn't have a CD player. Went out and bought one. Saw Mr. Nakai at the Smithsonian when he gave a concert there. Wondeful.
I grew up listening to this CD 💿 if you want a true moving experience listen to this CD out loud outside in Pali Duro Canyon it echoes off the canyon walls then you got the camp fire 🔥 crackling very relaxing I can picture it now and I can still smell the smoke 💨 best times of my childhood

There's definitely an undisputable peace this music brings. I had this music playing in the background while my kindhearted Vet was over to lay my sweet girl Layla to rest. I had been playing a few different relaxing tunes for animals over the last several months to ease her anxiety, and mine. So it's familiar and relaxing. Blessings to all🌸🌿🦋💞

I bought R. Carlos Nakai back when I moved in on my own, to watch the nightly show. Outside my window, was a large terrain, abandoned, then untouched. A clean horizon, grass and a lot of wildlife there. My apartment was on the 3rd floor (top floor). And every evening, I would play R. Carlos Nakai (different CDs) to the sunset: I pulled up a chair and watched large hawks gliding by, high in the heavens above, their nightly ritual, saying goodbye to Father Sun.
Their sacred dance was performed for only me, their large wingspan sustaining them, seemingly defying gravity, as they plunged abruptly and then soared again, before retiring atop their nests, for the night. It was a magical time, a live show for one, and I had free front row "tickets", every night. I (partially) miss it now.
I had to move abruptly, it was a chaotic complex that involved too much drama of the worst kind. This nightly show was a respite from the daily craziness over there. Shortly after I left, they built a shopping center there in the "prairie" or whatever that was, grocery stores, clothing outlets, the works.
I never found out what happened to the hawks, the coyotes and the occasional turkey vultures. I wish I had video of it but this was before phones. It was National Geographic outside my window every day. I miss the hawks the most. It was heavenly watching them glide to R. Carlos Nakai. (The 2 CDs were a lot better than this one, wish I knew the titles!)

I bought this cd too when I was in Grand Canyon for holiday in '97 and took it home to the Netherlands...
However here it wasnt that special as compared to in the beautiful USA. Its like with the US classic cars. If I see em in Europe, they arent as nice as when seeing them in the USA. (And I love these cars)... Its about the environment too.......

(I am however in the suburbs now and the most "wildlife" I see is the feral kitties I feed nightly.) I wish to move to the "wilder west", further north. (I'm in So. I posted ads in that state and all the replies were the same: Hollywood stars have bought off the ranches, where it's beautiful. It's all "cordoned off". You can live in the cities (no different than where I am) but the beauty of WY--which can be seen in technicolor 40's and 50's Westerns---you won't see it nor have access to it, unless you visit the state parks, where you can't live. My mother had this CD when I was roughly around 13. She got it for me when she went to Foxwoods Casino. That was almost 17 years ago now, and I've since moved across the country and have fallen out with the majority of my family...but I remember playing this constantly to help me sleep or de-stress. On a whim, since I couldn't remember the album name, I searched for Native American flute music and recognized the thumbnail immediately. And that first track just sent me back so hard, I'm near tears right now. I can't express the amount of nostalgia I'm feeling just from this video...

I went hiking a few days ago and sat on a rock overlooking the trail with canyon trilogy on. It truly amplified how beautiful nature is and how we can connect with it and get away from the pressures of ordinary life... at least for a time.

I am grateful to have heard this great master back in the seventies when there were the terrible conflicts between AIM and the FBI. Everyone was very scared. Then this beautiful music came out and it was a healing for many. I regret that things are still bad. But I believe that this music is a gift from Great Spirit and it makes my heart feel good ... and hopeful. I play this music for many years and still feel his magic and love in the flute. When my Father passed away, my Husband and I inherited his cd of this beautiful music...we are blessed to share in the artist's knowledge and creation.

I’m grateful to have met this man and purchased one of his hand made flutes one day in Spokane, Washington deep within a common coffee shop with a rare vintage vinyl collection back in 92-93. I’ve followed his legacy since the first to the last and it’s lasting way past my time in ending.

Every day early in the morning I must wake up and listen all these musics of Canyon trilogy. Specially during my holidays and weekends. It reminds me Manitoulin Island and Tobermory of Ontario. Also it takes me to Rocky mountains of Canada to province of Alberta and British Columbia. Those are the places where I enjoy listening Canyon Trilogy the most - very early in the morning to make my daily life productive and beneficial to every life on Earth! Indeed it is one of the Corner Stone of my life, since almost 20 years now - that is the way it goes with me.

This music speaks of a time long past, a time desired generations later. To me, it helps me realize what I am as a human being, that I have faults, but helps me to still take joy in my purpose here on Earth. Music like this always desires harmony and unity, not forcing itself but rather flowing.

Found this music by accident. My Beloved Canine Friend of 13+ years has an unknown type of cancer and it's Ripping me apart! We're trying all options in his treatment, including Holistic Veterinary Care by a Great Doctor! We went in last night (Valentine's Day ironically!) and she had Carlos Nakai & Joseph Fire Crow playing during the treatment/consult.
This is SO Soothing, calming, and serene. It brings my Soul peace, taking me to another place. It Speaks to my Soul...I don't know how or why but Thank You Sir for your amazing talents that are bringing peace to a Tattered Soul!

the notes soar like a hawk.....and the slight echos really put you in another place, unless you actually happen to be out in the northern AZ or NM or UT desert.....out in in huge canyon ....down by a river......because to me, it sounds like its not recorded in a studio, but out in a big canyon somewhere, and the sound is echoing off the canyon walls...amazing.... a truly unique sound in the world....

I always listen to the flute as I drift off to sleep with my conscience into another time.As a wolf,eagle or hawk I run through the valleys or glide among the sky’s looking down at a land never touched by any other body other than then people of the earth.And this is the only music my daughter can listen to as well at night when her sleep is troubling her,she soon drifts to where I go.
I have all his albums. They let me feel human after a bad day.

All these things speak together to me without words, telling me of mysterious matters only desert dwellers can know.
