One thing like about jimmy is his lyrics they all make plenty sense too me . Yeah I feel like shit daily but if I didn't believe in my GOD I just couldn't bare deal with life I'm tired of all my ailments the diabetes high blood pressure the heart failure using my oxygen now living with no legs . Only thing I have left is this old rugged wheelchair my kids wheelinge around in my chair promising me they'll never give me up to hospice care or nursing home . But above all else I still have MY GOD .GIVE JESUS A BIG HAND AND AN AMEN ON THAT .

@@mamabmcgee yes, he did, but not the part where Jimmy sings, "my sins have gone at last"; that is a true gospel song with true gospel lyrics with biblical experiences of being forgiven and being born again; Paul just had a lyric about "long streak of bad luck but I pray it's gone at last". He wrote this during his period of absorbing gospel music and the Bible Belt. Gospel music, it was for Paul but not the lyric. Why does NO ONE mention that the great Paul Simon wrote this song?
yes, Paul Simon wrote a more mainstream lyric but the gospel sound must match biblical gospel. Yes, my sins are gone at last. Paul was good at adapting a true gospel sound by getting the best of gospel musicians and singers and tradition, but you have to be born again to sing your sins are gone at last. Let's pray Paul makes that decision one day. He sees gospel as just cultural roots for rock and roll, not as a "song that holy angels cannot sing," amazing grace, how sweet the sound.

Here's a great song: A gospel song composed by a Jew (Paul Simon) and originally recorded by him and another Jew (Phoebe Snow); and the best thing about it was that it's a gospel song without the gospel: The lyrics are refreshingly and delightfully free of references to Jesus, Christ, the Lord, sin, resurrection, redemption, being born again, Judgment Day, grace, and all those other tired old platitudes that make gospel music such a DRAG. So what does Jimmy Swaggart do? He changes the lyrics (I wonder if he asked for permission to do so from Paul Simon and/or is paying him royalties) and put it all back: all those hackneyed, sterile, timeworn Christian cliches that make every gospel song sound depressingly like every other gospel song: endless banging on the same worn-out old drum.

Listen, one day the gospel will be preached like in the Early Church by Jews born again, believers in the Messiah. The church was Jewish in its onset and it was in synagogues but the Holy Spirit sent the Jewish apostles out to reach Gentiles like me. Maybe Paul needs to be born again, but it's never too late.
He received a grammy nomination in 1980 , i believe . He also was first cousin to Jerry lee lewis and mickey gilley .. so yeah he is quite the guy .
