    • @0001captainawesome
      @0001captainawesome 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Danimal77 Yes and no. I don't think that's really what it is, though it can come across that way on the surface. If I had given a serious reply earlier, instead of the peyote joke, then I would have expressed how it seems like the way she makes associations in her head is very adnormal to the average person. Like she takes the inherent 5 sense that people have and melds them together or just straight-up, in her head, registers something through 1 of those senses that typically would be analyzed through a different sense. It's the way her own personal head and thinking makes associations and draws comparisons between two things. I'll try and give some basic examples, although taking a hallucinogenic would probably make you understand as well lol, the way her brain works and draws comparisons that is. Some of her 5 senses are seemingly cobbled together and work in tandem with each other to draw correlations. Examples: seeing sounds/music, feeling music, and hearing visuals. It seems like everything that stimulates one of her five senses also stimulates at least one of the other 5 senses simultaneously which produces her unusual comparisons and anologies.

    The music of this time period was when there were psychodelics being used so the music was trippy. You could enjoy the music without the use of drugs. It was just a good song when you were hanging out with friends. Lex is right many songs talk about little girl that is what they called young women. My husband still says it sometimes and we have been married 40 years. It is not meant to be offensive or not used to talk about an inappropriate relationship.

      Idk, when I found out about "the club" and selling yourself out by doing inconceivable things to little ones to become and stay relevant, I get turned off by phrases like that. My naive self didn't have a problem with it but now I wonder if, and how deep, singers/bands/celebrities etc. are in it. 😏

      @@lmdashley6725 realistically though thats probably such a small group of people relative to the entire category. thats how humans are. theres, like you said, a small exclusive club and then theres the ones who know but dont care, the ones that do care and the majority dont even know. So reading too much into things isnt gonna help our own mental health in the long run. Until theres verified evidence that so and so is doing such and such, its conjecture. Thats how we end up with "witch hunts" so to speak, just looking for stuff where its not always actually found.

    I am sure that plenty of folks took the magic carpet ride with a variety of different substances, but the vocalist is straight forward: "Close your eyes, girl, look inside, girl, let the sound take you away!" Then the band provides the sound and the opportunity for the listener to literally close their eyes, look inside themselves and allow the sound of that trippy instrumental to let their minds soar uninhibitedly.

    At some point in the 1980s I heard a retro oldies radio interview with John Kay, leader of Steppenwolf, who you hear singing on this song. When discussing "Magic Carpet Ride" he stated that the band was flush with cash after the success of their first big hit, "Born To Be Wild." So one of the first things he did with his first royalty check from that song was go out and buy a huge stereo system, take it home, hook it up and play his vinyl albums. This song is about the joy of listening to music and the places it can transport you to when you do.

    Well . . . Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin did have a 14 year old groupie that he would hook up with whenever he was in LA in the early 70s. Well documented as she and another woman wrote a book in recent years describing their groupie experiences (and no regrets on their part). Also older bluesmen had songs like Sonny Boy Williamson's "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl". Age old theme. Not saying that's what Steppenwolf is singing about, but it was a more common theme back then. Of course filmmaker Roman Polanski, after his wife Sharon Tate was brutally killed by the Manson family, did have a sexual experience (assault?) with a young 13 year old girl. He was given a light sentence and before the judge could change his mind, left the country, and hasn't returned to the US since. Same era. So Polanski is forever wanted in the US, while Jimmy Page is celebrated. Strange times back then.

      Times are definitely different. I was watching some other TH-camr's react to Wingers "Seventeen" a few days ago, and I half-jokingly asked if people are still allowed to enjoy that song. But seriously, I'm not sure that song could even get air-play if it was written today. And that song only goes back to 1988.

    So great to see you simply absorbing the music. Sometimes, that's all its about. And yes, just lying there listening to this is a trip in its own right. Do it, you'll love it

    The late 60’s and 70’s was a major turning point in recordings. More tracks available, stereo recordings used more instead of mono, synths being used more. So a lot was experimental in of itself, let alone adding drugs to it.

      Godzilla the song is just as killer as Godzilla the movie ikon. BOC Rocks! Saw them on this tour with their laser light show, amazing. Even better, UFO opened as Michael Schenker ripped into Lights Out. Man, what a show...

    John Kay, singer and lead songwriter of Steppenwolf tells the story of how he came up with this song. He was in his pad in Nichols Canyon in LA, it's a few canyons over from Topanga. I remember, I'm from LA. John may have been smoking a little kaya one night, but he was surely laying on the floor listening to music coming from both speakers near his head. That's where he got the idea for this song. Thank you John!! I'm an old Wolf Packer.

    You both are my new favorite reaction channel hands down! Watching people hear my favorite music for the first time is almost as good as the first time I heard the songs... you love the songs and listen to them time and time again, but you never re-experience that initial feeling of the first time you heard it. Watching you two discover songs for the first time and fall in love with them brings a second-hand joy to the listener and, for me, I almost re-discover that feeling of hearing the song for the first time! Keep going you guys are amazing!
    That being said, I can tell that you two both love a song with a story, and you haven't tapped into Canada yet much... so if you could please react to "The Dead Can't Testify" by Billy Talent I think you will really love it!

    Lex, I absolutely love your enjoyment of rock that I grew up with. A lot of the music I thought was “head music”. We would lay back, smoke a little and drift off into the music. It was a great experience!

    Saw Steppenwolf, Molly Hatchet, and Kansas October the 14th, 1995 at Oak Mountain, Hoover or Pelham Alabama. I remember it well. it was the day we buried my grandfather. Carry on my Wayward Son (Kansas) never had a more heart felt meaning to me, than that night at that time.

      I have never tried LSD but I have talked to a lot of people and they all experimented an spiritual journey, and that is why in the 60s and 70s started that hippie movement, were peace and love was their main message, so I don't think is a destructive drug like cocaine or heroin, definitely is something different
