@Enclave Officer Z324 for me im building the sorting system right now and im in survival and it took me 2 days how fid it take you 3 weeks or did you count the days you got materials
there is a cheat here don't do this system because the stuff doesn't go to the bottom box it just goes to the top if you want you can check it yourself
because its a shit video and design, why detail your build before its even done? then he mines out the chest and builds around what he already built. its just too many fkn steps just show us the sorter ffs.
@@addybubbles6145 nice job... built that a year ago but I´m using it way to infrequently, gotta use it more... Did you build yours with or without litematica?
@@monnarchh. Ay I have a question. I just finished this build, but when testing it the items don't go in the chest where I want them(where I put the stack in along with the filter items) Instead it goes into the 1st chest the system passes. Is it because I have nothing in those chests yet? If that's the case, it would mean that I have to put a filter in everything in the order the system passes the chests.(all the way around on the top layer, and then all the way around the bottom layer) If that's not the case, I fucked up somewhere and I don't know what to do then😂
@@arie8515 if were talking about the same system by gnembon, then that´s a stack design where the items go from the highest hopper to the lowest and then back up again for the next row of chests. If that´s the case with the one you built then every item looks for the first spot it can go into... The way you sort them is by filling every chest (not hopper, since they should pass the items through right away) with the items you want to have in the chest until no spot is empty. (filling as in putting 1 item you wanna sort in every slot so the items basically stack as soon as they can) Your first chest could therefore be cobble and every other block would pass that chest besides cobble, which will stack. You have to watch out, everytime you take a stack out of a chest you have to put one item back so random items don´t go in there.
@@joseguardado8832 yeah we have no problem with the materials, we have finished the chests and main building part. Now im waiting for my friend to get on and do the redstone😅
@@faulergeckoguigo4159 I'm currently stripmining again for more redstone dust😂 I have all the materials for the hoppers and I'm almost done with the top layer of the sorting circuit. After this comes the tricky part: making the item transportation system
the major problem with this is i feel like some blocks should need like 5 compartments (10 double chests) dedicated to them. Dirt blocks, cobblestone, and every item you have a ridululous amount of due to your automated farms. bonemeal, paper, iron, you get my point. but thanks for this. i'll use it as a starting point and take out the items i think are mostly junk anyway and add more chests for the chests i need more of.
I'm at like half way of making this and it has taken like the entire day. BUT god damn, can we just appreciate the editing? It's SO nice to have all this additional information, visual instructions and camera angles, because they make it that much less convoluted and much easier to follow! Fantastic job, keep it up!
Same here took me a whole day just to do the interior. Haven't even started the Redstone. 😢 and I'm on creative which is ironic since I'm on here trying to replicate someone else's creative design.
how tf u have the dedication to build a mega base but u don’t even know how to make a simple auto sorting system. this is like the most common and well-known auto sorting system design in the game. watch grians new hermitcraft world tour to actually know what a mega base is.
I built this entire storage system in survival with a friend and wow was it difficult. Took us nearly a week to complete but it was so worth it. We got all the iron from a golem farm and I was still astonished by how much was needed for all the hoppers. I must have left MC running overnight for days to gather all the iron. Man was it fun tho! We even have an elavator going down to the storage room
We built this storage room, then decided 300 types of items and 2 million capacity was not enough space, so we dug down 20 blocks below and built the entire thing again. Remembering where each item is located can be a challenge, so we created a 53 page written book on a lectern and a number/letter code system to represent the precise location of everything in this massive warehouse.

Day 1 Completed digging main area, chamber one and almost chamber 2 Day 2 Almost starting to place the chests Day 3 Finished making sorter system and connecting everything Day 452 finished filling up the sorters cuz I had no idea what to actually put in
@@amrit-u4d I did finish it, in 3 days. But actually making a logical sorting system took way longer than the actual build because there is so much space
I've finally finished to build it in my Hardcore world ! *Here are some tricks and hints if you want to build it in your world too !* :) It took me 2 days : 5 hours to dig the cave where the sorter is, 5 hour to get the wood with my axe, 3 hour to get all the other things (i was rich lol) and 4 hour to build. The list is a little innacurate : You will be needing 5 more stacks of wood. I would really recommand having a beacon with mining haste for the digging part. (I did not, it took me forever). The hardest thing to gather is probably the Iron. For the redstone, just mine near the bedrock with a fortune III pickaxe (and a beacon if you feel like it) and you will get the correct amount of redstone (which is like 50 stacks if i'm not wrong). Use a calculator for the amount of stacks of wood, redstone, iron and stone you will need (also, if you're planning to dig the system in a mountain, you will get well enough stone from it if you do use a silk touch). For the wood, just use the sapplings and pute them 4 by 4, bone meal it, go on top of the tree, mine everything and do that again and again. You can also use a wood farm (which i don't have). Do not forget to afk often at your iron farm since you will need ~15 stacks of Iron Blocks just for the hoppers (a little bit less, like 14,97 stacks) Bring a few more torches also, you will run out of it. Scaffholdings are also useful. For the building, just do as the video, do not forget to bring a bed to sleep and be careful, mobs can enter easily in the build, you have to be a little focus on that ! Anyway, very good farm, i liked a lot building it, Thanks Shulkercraft :)
@悪魔を称えよ i did play in solo for 3 days doing mostly that haha For the materials its kinda dumb how many you have to get but worth it. Also i putted composter on top of the hoppers to reduce lag :F
@@CatLion4131 To be clear and respond to everyone, you will need : For the deco only : - 12664 Planks -> 2166 Logs -> Almost 50 Stacks (49.8stacks) For the hopper only : - 3436 Logs -> 53.7 Stacks of Logs FOR THE WHOLE THING : -> 104 Stacks of Logs. It mean 3.9 Shulker Boxes full of logs or also 1.95 Double chest full of logs.
I thought I read Iron Blocks somewhere in another comment and I gathered 132 stacked of iron blocks instead of ingots....... I'll never need iron ever again
21:03 if you cant add a stack of the item you want to sort, add 11 filter items in each slot instead of just one. that way, you only have to add one of the item you want to sort. hope this helped someone!
your method works fine, since the input is a hopperline, but if you want to save on hoppers, and choose to use a waterway instead, than you might run into overflow problems with this method. The 41 of the one you want, 1-1 in the other parts option also includes the safety feature, that if the sorter fills up to 64-1-1-1-1, it'd still only have a signal strength of 3, meaning it can't activate the modules next to it, to let their sorted items start draining. On the other hand, if you only add 1 of the item you want to sort, and fill the other 44 items in the other slots in any configuration whatsoever, and your system suddenly gets a lot of an item you want to sort into the same chest, you might see the hopper pick up more than it can actually put out. (hoppers can suck in items in bulk, but always output them one at a time) and if it fill up with the item you want to sort out, it'll break the sorters next to it. So be careful with using this method. It does however work for items that you probably won't be dumping into your storage in big amounts, or if you use a hopperline instead of a waterstream, than with just about any items, but as we all know, hopperlines are laggy. If you use those, at least put composters on top, unless you're in singleplayer, or for some reason have space constraints that can't allow it.
I’m running into the problem of my hoppers not properly sorting everything just keeps going into the first top chest even tho I have put in the required amount of fillers and Items in the hopper before hand if u have a solution please help it’s very frustrating spending so many mats and not being able to figure out why it’s broken
@@9mm_gobrrr there are a few things i can think of that can cause such a behaviour. First of all, are you playing on java, or bedrock edition? Because those 2 handle redstone slightly differently. If there's too much redstone action in 1 redstone tick, bedrock sometimes pushes some redstone reactions to the nexttick, rather than slowing down the game so it can handle them all in the correct tick, effectively breaking a lot of contraptions that work properly in java. If you're on java however, than I'd recommend checking out if you didn't accidentally fill up some of the filter's 2-5th slots with items you forgot to rename. If you did, and threw in some of those in the system, they'll start stacking to the first filter's 2nd slot, go up till 42, and empty out the filter's 1st slot in the meantime; basically letting everything else through afterward. Also, if you renamed a lot of items to separate the filters in bulk, make sure you don't accidentally throw in the rest for selection after you ended up filling your filters; since that can result in the above situation as well. Renameing a filler item is only required, so you won't accidentally throw in items that can stack with them. So long as there are a total of 45 stackable items (min) or 68 (max) in a hopper, you should be all right. sorterwise. I recommend only 1-1 renamed filler item in the 2nd-5th slots though, not the 11-11 method that some people suggest. Also, if you're on java, you like redstone, and compact storages, I'd also recommend checking out a multisorter, like the Metamilo/Rapscallion design. I personally use that one as well, and it works flawlessly, while taking up only a 2 wide slot, and can select/sort out up to 54 different stackable items if required. Also doesn't break from unstackable items going through it, just gotta make sure they have somewhere to go in the end.
@@brendandan2156 I built mine with my mate in survival but we haven’t managed to get the items to flow into the top chest after filling the bottom one... is that happening for you?

@@Watchkristv For me that part was the easiest. I built this for a realm, and was lucky enough to have three other players agree to help me mine. With four people you can mine all the iron within 12 hours. If I had to do it solo then yes, I probably would have made an iron farm.

Dear future builder of this contraption: I am building this in survival java 1.16.5, and it has been actually really easy, I am leaving a couple of tips for you. Get a beacon: I set it to haste 2 and it took me half an hour with a effV pickaxe to mine the absolute massive amount of stone I needed to build this inside a mountain Then I set it to Jump Boost 2 when building and it was worth it. Build a tree farm and plant birch for the wood needed for the chests. I use the ilmango simple 4 type tree farm design and birch doesn't use as much bone meal as other trees. Build a micro iron farm in your spawn chunks (I'll update this post with the link to the one I use, which has been the simplest and most useful one I've done, which I guess has to do with the fact it IS in the spawn chunks, but still, took me like 20 mins to build), because the amount of hoppers you need is insane and you don't realize that until you build the sorting system. In general, you need about 2 stacks of redstone torches, repeaters and comparators for every wing of the build and 8 stacks of redstone dust. I have 8 clerics in my trading hall and I can trade 6 stacks of redstone dust every day so it pays off if you don't have a witch perimeter or a raid farm yet because mining for redstone takes waaaaay too long for the needs of this. Install the "better hoppers" resource pack from vanilla tweaks so you can tell easily if something is misconnected and before you fill up the hoppers with the filter items, check every comparator to see if it's off, that way you will avoid wreaking havoc. I'm yet to build the distribution system, but I'll update when I'm done. Time so far: 5 irl days of about 3 hours counting afk at skelly farm, tree farm, trading redstone mining quartz and crafting/transporting everything (consider I didn't use stone bricks for deco, and instead used quartz blocks/stairs/chiselled/columns/slabs/bricks, so discount the time it took to acquire those materials too. Update: I forgot to say this the first time, don't use a hopper as the adjacent block of your water elevator, items will get stuck there, and while you think they are travelling the system, they are actually despawning (imagine that happening to your diamonds/netherite/dragon egg). I used a blue ice block, which I don't know if helps keep momentum, but works great). Update 2: I added a shulker unloader at the entrance which sadly doesn't fit on the walls so I had to reengineer it to take the shulkers in a floor chest and pop the empty ones back out in a chest right next to the original "dumping one". Works great. The filtering is not done yet because I'm still deciding on an order that makes the most sense for me, so I will call it done for building time at 7 days of 3 hours (21 hours) counting afk and resource gathering, and pls consider I have a slow pc which sometimes lags too much and that I'm better at redstone than at building so your time may vary. Could be less since I took the baaaaad decision of using quartz instead of stone bricks which I already had. Looks way fancier though. You can read my replies for details on the sorting categories I have so far and I'll reply with the ones I come up with as I create them. The micro iron farm I use: th-cam.com/video/T6R6YB4Mbyc/w-d-xo.html The wood farm I use: th-cam.com/video/2sCEsghQI6w/w-d-xo.html
I would honestly build a big iron farm before building this, not just a micro farm. It will be worth it and even a large iron farm usually isn't super resource intensive to build.
@@ToperRS the thing with those is, they usually need to be built floating in the sky. The one I recommend is built underground which makes it super easy early game.
@@promocode8454 so far it has been 7 days of 3 hour sessions, haven't finished filling the filters because I added an enchanting/brewing room and a shulker unloader, so I'm still deciding how to lay down the items in the most logical order for me. As for the memory usage, I wouldn't be the right person to ask, since my pc runs the base game at 20 fps tops. At 8 chunks. :/ I need a new PC
@@slambat2905 This is the more practical solution, have sorting for the 15-20 of the most cluttering items, cobblestone, ores, wood the stuff you tend to store in bulk, and use the overflow chest to manually sort out anything thats more niche and in smaller quantities.

Me: Hmm my base is a mess, i think first i'll organise my chests. Let's look up some tutorials on youtube. Tutorial: So basically you will need like 3000 chests...
@@lukany9534 it’s not that hard. The entire list for the first part fits into 3.5 shulker boxes. I did it all in survival. It just seems big. But when you actually do it it seems less big than it actually is.
How much lag did you experience if any at all on bedrock? If there was any lag on (ps4) or any console did you have lag when you built it or when you added items to the system?
i've build mine with my custom design but the same filter system, this video helped me a lot, for anyone wandering it works great even with a bigger room that filter 90% of stackable item in the game with 4 double chests per item, it just causes a lot of fps drop when you are in the storage room and will take you around 100 hours to build... I'm tired, that was my biggest minecraft project ever
Built in 1.17.1 and is still working flawlessly. Things to keep in mind: 1. When you have empty chest slots which arent being used, make sure the hopper facing the comparator on the back has the filtering item (renamed 5 cobblestone to "Filtering item" and put one in each slot of that hopper, had to be done for every hopper which its corresponding chest is not in use). If this isn't done, items that are put into the chests at the entrance will get lost in the hopper trail and enter the first hopper with a empty item slot. 2. Stacks of 16 will also work, this includes ender pearls, buckets, etc. When put into a hopper, instead of stopping at 41 like a regular 64 stack, it will stop at 10 and work perfectly without a issue. 3. Some of the items will get stuck in the water elevator. I recommend putting a full block at the 90 degree turn and then put the water ontop of 2 or more hoppers if that makes any sense. 4. My friend made a mistake where on the second level for the top chests, he put the redstone torch on the lower block of the second row. This making the redstone from the first row turn on and not work properly. Make sure the redstone torch is at the same Y level as the repeaters. 5. I would highly recommend mining the corners of the storage units, so that you have a lot more space to work with the redstone and look at the entire thing. I recommend digging a 53x53 with 11 block height. This a massive storage unit and the redstone hurt my brain, the areas helped figure out if I had a hopper facing the wrong way or something was interfering it. 6. You can easily setup multiple chests around your world that will direct your items into the storage units. All you have to keep in mind is that is has to be before the items enter the water elevator for simplicity reasons. apart from that... enjoy your torture hours : )
just for people planning on building this, here are all of the raw materials needed (you then need to craft them into the respective items) the amount of stacks is rounded up any type of log: 6098 (96 stacks) spruce log: 754 (12 stacks) stone: 2990 (47 stacks) smooth stone: 113 (2 stacks) coal: 30 (1 stack) any block: 1800 (29 stacks) iron: 8594 (135 stacks) redstone dust: 3011 (48 stacks) quarts: 303 (5 stacks) sand: 42 (1 stack) kelp: 32 (1 stack) cobblestone: 23 (1 stack) soul sand: 1 (1 stack) slimeballs: 1 (1 stack) hope this helped :-)

@@Jo24Park well a whole stack wouldn’t take much longer tbh. Probably only like a minute if we are assuming that it takes a second for the next one to start

instead of using 41 diamonds you could just add more of the item filter items so that the number of diamonds used for the filter is less. If you put 10 filter items in each slot then you only have to use 5 diamonds for the filter
Yeah I read about that. 11 filter items * 4 per hopper makes it so only 2 items get stuck in the system (one in the sort hopper, one in the hopper below).
@@invisghost2190 , You'd also run the risk of breaking the sorting system if too many items enter the filter hopper and triggering the filters next to it...

I am currently building this in survival. I already have an iron farm so thats no issue. But the WOOD!!! My God. You need something like 5,000 wood blocks to make this!! Im going to do it. But my world wont have any trees once im done. And i dont have a farm to make tnt so i cant rely on a tree farm.

I’ve always seen this storage room in your videos, never would’ve thought that there would be a tutorial. You guys are the best minecraft channel by far!
USEFULL!!! When you put in the hopper 41 then 1 then 1 then 1 item, it only needs one of the item you like to sort, like diamonds, but I am not sure on which versions it works, it surely works on 1.19.3 and 1.19.4!! Hope I could help😊
Me: sees that you need 3 million hoppers I will build an iron farm! Me: sees that you need to transport villagers and zombies AND you need name tags? ohno
Honestly it is not as bad as you think. There is an auto farm that makes 9000 iron per hour. This build requires 8590 for the hoppers so less than a hour of afking.
If u have access to at least 2 villagers you can do it, on this channel there is a super easy iron farm design that only requires 3 villagers, 1 zombie and 1 name tag. Name tags are easy to get if u have a librarian villager, turn him into a zombie, cure it, and then level it to master. That design makes around 400 iron per hour which doesn’t sound like a lot but if u leave it running over night with an auto clicker or something it won’t take long at all.
The hardest part in this is finding what goes where and items to put in the slots in general. I've had the basic set up for a while with out the item sorting for like a good 2 months. I'm finally adding the Item sorting part, but I still have yet to fill up the chests and still trying to figure out what goes where.
All the items you wanted to sort will go into the filters, in the order you placed them. So you could make a list then just deposit those items in order to fill the system (to get it started at least, this makes it tough to leave room for new blocks though). Here’s how I do it: For categories, start with basics. Overworld - Wood Types - Stone Types - Biome Specific (Ocean Temple, Desert, Badlands, Ice, etc) - Manmade (Glass, Concrete, etc) - Raw Materials (if you want) - Ore Blocks - Smelted Ingots / Diamonds - Dropstone Spikes / Blocks Redstone - Blocks / Dust - All Stackable Components - Honey Blocks - Slime Blocks - Rails Leave some empty spots in each section, with another renamed item in the hopper until you decide what to filter. Repeat for Nether - Crimson / Warped Wood - Crimson / Warped Fungi - Crimson / Warped Nylium - Biome Blocks (Soul Sand, Soil, Basalt, Blackstone, Vines, etc) - Nether Ores - Structure Blocks (Blackstone, Nether Brick, etc) Repeat for End - Endstone, Brick, Purpur - Shulker Shells - End Rods - Obsidian Hostile / Passive Mob Drops - Pearls, String, Bones, Coal, Blaze Rods, etc. - Wool, Leather, Feathers, Eggs, whatever you want to filter here. - Guardian Drops - Wither Skulls - Wither Roses You’ll still have some stuff left like honey, scaffolding, and all of your non-stackable items, but it’s a good place to start. Pixlriffs has a video going over his thought process for sorting systems in his recent Survival Guide. Oh, and leave room for all the copper variants, tuff variants, and 1.21 blocks :)
Me and my friends finished the first part, my friends just got the materials and i built. We finished digging, the base, build the decorations in 8 hours of play, now, we are going to redstone next week, thanks Shulkercraft!
Possibly needed, but not required: Iron farm Cobblestone farm Tree farm Fully enchanted diamond/netherite tools (to speed up the clear out) God tier patience Edit: ok, you probably don't need a cobblestone farm
It took a week, and I faced the whole thing with netherbricks and crimson stems, and altered a bit of the front area for my own tastes, but I have it and i love and thank you so much for this!
in the middle ill probably make a staircase that goes down to villager trading hall, in the same shape basically on one side will be villager hallway on the other side will be a farm and the third side maybe a pvp kit chests or rooms good idea or no?
I love how you do everything in survival! One of my biggest turnoffs is when people say "survival friendly" and then build things in creative, this gives me confidence that with enough time it's possible :)

@@addybubbles6145 nice job... built that a year ago but I´m using it way to infrequently, gotta use it more... Did you build yours with or without litematica?
@@monnarchh. Ay I have a question. I just finished this build, but when testing it the items don't go in the chest where I want them(where I put the stack in along with the filter items)
Instead it goes into the 1st chest the system passes. Is it because I have nothing in those chests yet?
If that's the case, it would mean that I have to put a filter in everything in the order the system passes the chests.(all the way around on the top layer, and then all the way around the bottom layer)
If that's not the case, I fucked up somewhere and I don't know what to do then😂
@@arie8515 if were talking about the same system by gnembon, then that´s a stack design where the items go from the highest hopper to the lowest and then back up again for the next row of chests.
If that´s the case with the one you built then every item looks for the first spot it can go into...
The way you sort them is by filling every chest (not hopper, since they should pass the items through right away) with the items you want to have in the chest until no spot is empty. (filling as in putting 1 item you wanna sort in every slot so the items basically stack as soon as they can)
Your first chest could therefore be cobble and every other block would pass that chest besides cobble, which will stack.
You have to watch out, everytime you take a stack out of a chest you have to put one item back so random items don´t go in there.

I've finally finished to build it in my Hardcore world ! *Here are some tricks and hints if you want to build it in your world too !* :)
It took me 2 days : 5 hours to dig the cave where the sorter is, 5 hour to get the wood with my axe, 3 hour to get all the other things (i was rich lol) and 4 hour to build.
Do not forget to afk often at your iron farm since you will need ~15 stacks of Iron Blocks just for the hoppers (a little bit less, like 14,97 stacks)
Bring a few more torches also, you will run out of it. Scaffholdings are also useful.
For the building, just do as the video, do not forget to bring a bed to sleep and be careful, mobs can enter easily in the build, you have to be a little focus on that !
Anyway, very good farm, i liked a lot building it, Thanks Shulkercraft :)
@悪魔を称えよ i did play in solo for 3 days doing mostly that haha

It helped me
your method works fine, since the input is a hopperline, but if you want to save on hoppers, and choose to use a waterway instead, than you might run into overflow problems with this method.
Also doesn't break from unstackable items going through it, just gotta make sure they have somewhere to go in the end.

i built this in my world my problem is when it goes outside of simulated chunks the items seem to just stop till i walk over to that area then they go round the system as usual ive tried swapping to water streams which speeds up the item but when i go out of render while its auto sorting the items seem to miss the correct auto sorter and end up in the uncategorized chests this has basically made this autosorter useless and its wuicker to put the items in the chest the time you have to wait around for the items to go into the chest

Dear future builder of this contraption:
I am building this in survival java 1.16.5, and it has been actually really easy, I am leaving a couple of tips for you.
Get a beacon: I set it to haste 2 and it took me half an hour with a effV pickaxe to mine the absolute massive amount of stone I needed to build this inside a mountain
Then I set it to Jump Boost 2 when building and it was worth it.
The micro iron farm I use: th-cam.com/video/T6R6YB4Mbyc/w-d-xo.html

Wow. I don’t even play Java but I can appreciate this comment
Very useful comment thanks. I was wondering about the time it took to build. Could you also put the memory usage change when you updates?

@@josipturkalj6083 do u recommend doing it after all?
Built in 1.17.1 and is still working flawlessly.
Things to keep in mind:
All you have to keep in mind is that is has to be before the items enter the water elevator for simplicity reasons.
apart from that... enjoy your torture hours : )
so helpful dude i thought mine was broken checked an relayed all the hopper then found this an fixed straight away

I did not include any ores/precious minerals because I am making a super smelter/storage system in my mines and will incorporate the ores/precious minerals into its design.
Other items I did not include above but will make a separate/sub-level storage for:
- wools and carpets (will go in my wool farm)
- nether brick (all combinations)
- red sand (all combinations)
- remaining vegetables/crops
- soul torches/fire
- concrete and concrete powder
- flowers
- honey
- non-stackable items (totems, armour/tools, enchantment books etc.)
- brewing items/potions (will make a wizard/witch tower with storage).
- rails: activator, detector, powered and regular
- job blocks/tools (anvils, grindstones, lecterns, stone cutter etc).
- minecarts/hoppers
- prismarines
- ices

I really liked the music you used in this video! I’ve always wanted to make an automated storage system for every item, but I usually settle for about 10 chests categorized by item type, whether it be wood, stone, precious, food, etc.
I was never afraid more of the term "Repeat this..."
"Hey, where is all the ore on this world?"
"Yeah...about that..."
why do you always upload at the most perfect timing ever
It takes about 3 minutes and 27 seconds for an item to travel start to finish.
At least it’s less than the 5 minutes despawn. Do items despawn once in hoppers actually?
@@AlwaysBolttheBird no, they wont despawn when stuck in a hopper
Now imagine what an entire stack of items takes and multiply that with your inventory space :D
@@Jo24Park well a whole stack wouldn’t take much longer tbh. Probably only like a minute if we are assuming that it takes a second for the next one to start
Thank you. I was looking for the answer to this question cause it's taking forever and I thought I made another mistake.
Slowly but surely I’m getting to building this, already have all the giant holes dugout and have 5 stacks of hoppers, just put a full shulker box of iron ore in the furnace so let’s hope that gets me closer :)
Me: "I could've sworn I had 41 more diamonds!"
The sorting system: "A small price to pay, for a neat storage room"
instead of using 41 diamonds you could just add more of the item filter items so that the number of diamonds used for the filter is less.
@@holroy yea, happened to me i taught the same thing as David.

Honestly it is not as bad as you think. There is an auto farm that makes 9000 iron per hour. This build requires 8590 for the hoppers so less than a hour of afking.
could you imagine though? just watching a video on how to build an item sorter and seeing "3475931 hoppers" pop up on the materials screen

Help me I completed this about a week ago and have no idea which item to go where.

@@amrit-u4d
All the items you wanted to sort will go into the filters, in the order you placed them. So you could make a list then just deposit those items in order to fill the system (to get it started at least, this makes it tough to leave room for new blocks though).
Here’s how I do it:
For categories, start with basics.
Overworld
- Wood Types
- Stone Types
- Biome Specific (Ocean Temple, Desert, Badlands, Ice, etc)
- Manmade (Glass, Concrete, etc)
- Raw Materials (if you want)
- Ore Blocks
- Smelted Ingots / Diamonds
- Dropstone Spikes / Blocks
Redstone
- Blocks / Dust
- All Stackable Components
- Honey Blocks
- Slime Blocks
- Rails
Leave some empty spots in each section, with another renamed item in the hopper until you decide what to filter.
Repeat for Nether
- Crimson / Warped Wood
- Crimson / Warped Fungi
- Crimson / Warped Nylium
- Biome Blocks (Soul Sand, Soil, Basalt, Blackstone, Vines, etc)
- Nether Ores
- Structure Blocks (Blackstone, Nether Brick, etc)
Repeat for End
- Endstone, Brick, Purpur
- Shulker Shells
- End Rods
- Obsidian
Hostile / Passive Mob Drops
- Pearls, String, Bones, Coal, Blaze Rods, etc.
- Wool, Leather, Feathers, Eggs, whatever you want to filter here.
- Guardian Drops
- Wither Skulls
- Wither Roses
You’ll still have some stuff left like honey, scaffolding, and all of your non-stackable items, but it’s a good place to start.
Pixlriffs has a video going over his thought process for sorting systems in his recent Survival Guide.
Oh, and leave room for all the copper variants, tuff variants, and 1.21 blocks :)
