Thanks for this, Jose! 🙏🏼 Appreciate sharing you Jose Novelo's contact. I enlisted his services, the guy is a pro. I successfully attained my 🇲🇽 residency. 🙌🏼
Thanks Jose so much for doing this, for both of you doing this. I have 2 stamps from 2022, and about to have my 2nd for this year. So thankful that I can apply next year and become a temporary resident.
so I contacted Jose a few months ago and he said I could qualify even though I haven't been there between 2011-22. I'm on my way in a few days:) no turning back now:) so I guess I will just have to make it work bc I have nothing to go back to. Nada...I am 70 and on social security. I will be contacting Jose again after I get there to see what to do next:) I'm nervous but not too much. Very excited. I have a new country and I already love it:)
Glad you found the information useful! Actually this is the latest update. We made this video soon after the new rules for 2024 were announced. So everything in this video is current. I don't really talk much about financial solvency on this channel because most people do not qualify for residency through those means. We like to talk about all the other paths one can take to get residency in Mexico. Right now the RNE program is the most popular option for many new immigrants to Mexico. As we stated in the video most people go down the RNE route after various rejections at Mexican Consulates. The RNE program basically only requires you to live in Mexico and as we explained will most likely always be renewed and even if it isn't there is another law in the books which is basically the RNE program but is only availble every 2 years or so. So either way the video is as current as can be for the foreseeable future. The new update doesn't come along until around the 3rd Quarter of each year.
I watch Alotttt of Mexico Ytubers.. most them talk about going to an office in their home country to apply.. this confirms what I been thinking. That the process is easier to do while there in Mexico.
@@JoseArteagaTravels BTW, today I found the local Mexican consolate in my city. Where I will start all of my paperwork. Thank you again. God bless you and your family.
Great content! I’m learning more and more about residency. I want to retire in Mexico. I’ll be 65 in a year and a half. I will definitely be looking into seeing Jose and getting some good advice from him.
THANK YOU for this..There's SO much misinformation and y'all have cleared up most of it. I'm retired, collecting Social Security, and selling my Tucson home which will net $260,000-$275,000, which I plan to put into 1-year CDs - in Mexico. Do I get an FMM card crossing at Nogales? What is the tax rate to register my vehicle? How will I apply for residency?
Great questions! When you cross into Mexico Make sure your passport is stamped, not sure if they are still handing out FMMs. I have no idea what the tax rate is, you need to google that. As for residency it is explained in the video. Best and most recommended way to apply is through the RNE program, but there are many other ways. You need to figure out what is best for you and your situation. Glad to hear the video was so helpful! Saludos!
You can get your residency through the RNE program if you have been to Mexico before. Again as we mentioned in the video there are multiple ways to obtain residency. You can apply at a Consulate and get your residency through retirement or through financial solvency. But if either do not work out for you then you have other options such as the RNE program.
wow, driving the car back to the border is 1250 miles:) I saw a video done in Ensenada and some local company did the car nationalization for $2500 for this guy and the US tags were expired and they bought the car from someone in Mexico w/ CA plates:) in Baja we don't need a TIP to drive. it's just a pain to get your tags every other year:(
Thank you for the good video. I entered Mexico in April 2023 and my FMM expired in October. Doesn't this qualify you in this case? I'm asking because I saw in other comments that I also received the 2023 arrival.
You still do not Qualify until Jan of 2025 assuming the program is still around, which we assume it will be. I would contact Jose Novelo directly for more information
It is actually just automatic. When you go to immigration to renew your Temporary Residency they will say No and prompt you to get your Permanent Residency. Simply put after living in Mexico with a Temporary Residency for 4 years, that automatically qualifies you for you to get your Permanent Residency. and after 5 years of being in Mexico you can get your Mexican Citizenship and Passport.
@@JoseArteagaTravels Super, thanks a bunch. Last question, is it possible to buy a car on an FMM? I will try to make it to Merida this year. Would love to buy you a beer or ten.
Thanks for all your vids. Super helpful. My question is, my wife and I will be retiring very soon but thinking of getting residency sooner than later, we have a 22 stamp on our passport and we will be in Mazatlan from December 15 th 23 till Jan 7 th 24, if I understand right as of Jan 01 24 we would be eligible, now does the existing stamp that we have while we’re their have to be expired or can we just apply for the program as of Jan 01 1st? Thanks for your help. 😊
Thank you! Glad they are so helpful! To answer your question yes you need to be on an expired FMM in order to qualify. So talk to a professional that can help you with that. You might be told to ask for only a few days so that it expires and you qualify. You can also just wait and do it in the future since you will have plenty of stamps to qualify. Good luck with everything!
I visited (flew in) puerto Vallarta in 2021 using my passport I don’t remember getting a FMM. How do I retrieve that information or if it’s required for anyone flying into Mexico or is there a record of in mexicos system I did get one and it’s expired do I just fly there fill out the paper work and they’ll have the expired FMM on file? Also my father was born in Mexico and his name is on my birth certificate stating he’s from Mexico he is now deceased I have no other information of when/where he lived in Mexico or the names of his/my relatives.
You will get a NEW FMM when you come into Mexico again. The FMM is only for your stay within Mexico like a receipt. Once you leave Mexico you dont need it anymore. In order to find out how to get Mexican Citizenship through your father you can watch this video for more information th-cam.com/video/buMQettPeF0/w-d-xo.html
This is great information.Thank you but I do have a question. I'm currently living in the US and have visited Mexico since the late 1980's and through the timeframe the program requires. From what I've read about the RNE is that one has to be in Mexico to apply to this program and have an expired FMN card. I don't have an FMN card and as stated still living in the US (still working not retired). So I am in a bit of a quandary as how to go about applying through this program. Please advise. Thank you.
Yes you have to be in Mexico because it is done at the local immigration office. As for expired FMM. An FMM is the visa you get when you enter Mexico, often times referred to as a "tourist visa" you can get that visa for 1 day or 180 days or anywhere in between. So what most people do that want to go through the program is only ask for a few days on your visa, so that once it expires you can go to immigration and get your 4 year Temporary Residency through the RNE program. My advice to you is to contact Jose Novelo directly and he will be more than happy to guide you through the whole process. Good luck with everything!
When we visited in summer 2022 we didnt actually get a stamp it was just yhe form, then last year it was just printed for automatic 180 days. So i imagine it's in the system? Would i still be able to use the RNE if i visited in 2022?
I have been to Mexico twice, May 2023, and Nov 2023, but have never been asked to fill out an FMM, but my passport was stamped 180 days. Would I still be eligible for RNE, and must you be 65yrs or older? Thank you
We are coming next month for a visit to have a stamp for 2024. Won’t be moving until April 2025. So that means we should be eligible for an RNE in 2026? Just trying to understand
I crossed into Los Algodones about 3-years ago for dental work. There was no passport stamp (wasn't needed crossing by foot), but I did have an FMM and Mexican car insurance. Would I be able to get a copy from Mexico of my FMM (I do have a currently valid passport) and use these documents to qualify for residency?
I was in Mexico 6 times between 1985 and 2010. Do any of those visits count towards the program? Also my truck is US registered, I can’t sell it but can I take it to the dump if it’s dead and can’t drive back to the states? Thanks Duane
I'm pretty sure Jose said it has to be after 2011. I would rewatch the video or contact him directly. Yes if your car dies out here you can just scrap it out here
You are sill in the system but you need a profesional to help you with the process. You can watch this video for more information th-cam.com/users/livelN4ZAS5HAb8?feature=share
Yes you should still be eligible. You are in the system. What they are actually looking for is the stamp on your passport. The expired FMM is the one you will have with you next time you come to Mexico. You have to wait until it expires before you can apply. With that said dont wait till the last minute make sure you get all your ducks in a row before it actually expires! Hope that helps clear it up!
We don't have any stamps in our passport. We have visited several times by cruise ship. Does this count? Or can we drive down now and begin the process? We live in Arizona
But you can't get health insurance if you apply for the insurance at age 70 or older. Bring mucho emergency cash with you because you will be dipping into it as you age.
How would the Mexican immigration system know that a person on FMN returned before or after expiration if you returned to the US through the border? My understanding is that people return home without having passports checked by Mexican immigration. A person who has overstayed a long time should apply for RNE or should go to immigration to pay the fine and be prepared to be asked to leave Mexico?
Anyone who crossed through a border is in the system. If you left Mexico without going through Immigration you are still in the system. Not quite sure how to rectify something like that, but in Mexico there is always a solution. My advice is to contact a profesional like Jose Novelo for more information on what to do next

If I visited in 2015 can I apply in Mexico immigration office in 2024? I am not sure if you were saying, you would have to apply in 2023 for the FMM program. Thank you.
Hi, the passport i got stamped in 2021 august expired, i have a new passport now. Would my FMM be on record when i enter Cancun airport, and could i be allowed in as 'canje', and start the temp residency proceudre? Even though my new passport doesn't have stamp, only the old one...
Is there a recommended INM to go to (or any to avoid)? I used to have Temporary Residency a few years ago (I never renewed it) so I'd like to find an INM this summer that will help me get residency again...thanks for any recommendations!
I bought a condo pre sale in sept 2022 closed in nov 23. We stayed dec22 thur jan 6 2024. In Puerto Vallarta can you recommend a immigration attorney or can i do it myself?
You can go to the immigration office and do it yourself as long as you know Spanish. The only person I know and can recommend is Jose Novelo who is in the video but he is based out of Merida Yucatan. If interested you can email him for more information or just find a reputable person in your area to help you out.
@@JoseArteagaTravels I do speak spanish. So with my passport stamps I qualify. We are preparing the condo for airb&b business. We will be in pv on the 22 February. Thank you for your help. Best regards. Ralph Ramirez Oh. What does R.N.E. stand for?
Hi Jose, i visited Mexico for the first time just this year (2024) in February. If/when Mexico renews the RNE program for 2025, would i be eligible for the program then, because of my visit a year prior? Still a bit confused about that part. I know you'd have been eligible in 2024 if you've been to Mexico by, or before January 2022. But will the limit still be 2022 in 2025? And then, would my expired FMM be enough even though i only stayed a week? Or would i need to visit again and wait out another FMM? Thank you!!
From my understanding you will be able to qualify next year once the RNE program is extended. If not next year then in 2026 for sure. But I am not the expert on this subject. Jose Novelo is the expert. If you did not get the info you needed from this video and need more clarification you can contact Jose Novelo directly for a paid consultation and he will be more than happy to help you out.
This sounds too good to be true! Is it really the case that by having an entry and exit stamp in my passport for 2022, I can apply in 2024 for residence? If so, that's just fantastic! Could you confirm this and also tell us if this is regional (if only the popular tourist destinations are doing it), or does it apply Mexico-wide, in every State?
I just confirmed it by making this video for you guys. The RNE Program is National. You can confirm it even further by speaking to a professional. If you need further assistance please reach out to Jose Novelo. He can help you out if you plan on doing the program in this region of Mexico
I can now update, and say that, thanks to this video, I and my husband are now Temporary Residents! We contacted Jose Novelo after watching this five months ago, travelled to Merida a few weeks ago, and completed the process! I can't recommend Jose N. enough - he was just fantastic! He did all the paperwork for us, arranged our driver to take us to the Belize border to cancel our 180 day visa and get a 2-day visa, and a facilitator to be there for us to make sure it happened. He arranged our trip to the INM office in Progresso two days later, to complete the paperwork and get our cards. It took only four days from our first meeting with him in Merida, to having the cards in our hands in Progreso. All we needed to provide him in advance, as regards paperwork, were our marriage certificate apostilled and translated, and a photocopy of the 2022 entry stamp in our passports. That was it - no financials, nothing. I'd highly recommend contacting him. He was great.
It sounds like you said that if you have a stamp in 2022 that is AFTER January then you do NOT qualify for the RNE. Is this correct or did I misinterpret?
How hard (or easy) would it be to get permanent residence and then citizenship for my spouse and step son? I am a native born Mexican citizen and my step son is 15 years old. Your advice is much appreciated.
Very easy since they both qualify for residency through Family Structure. I don't know the exact requirements you can find them online. But you need a copy of your marriage certificate Apostiled and i think the birth certificate of your son Apostiled and some other requirements, but its easy to do at your local Immigration office once you arrive. They can enter with FMM Tourist Visas and since you speak Spanish you can do it all yourself. If you need help you can just hire a facilitator but i did it myself when i Married Christian and it was very easy. Getting the paperwork you need is the hardest part! lol Good luck with everything!

As her husband, if am in Mexico City at the moment, can she send her documents to me so that i can do the process for her or maybe send to a lawyer or facilitator since she cant be here in person?? Or is it a must that she comes here in person to handle that?
@@JoseArteagaTravels Ok thank. And also concerning the FMM, can she apply online and make sure to get for 7 days only so that it can expire while she's here and then to begin the process at INM. Bcuz i heard some cities you visit give it automatically for 180 days and if you leave to come back, you get a new FMM. Thank you in advance for you response.
Hi Jose- I have been studying your Videos! I am interested in the Prevada that Christian painted the lady a picture for and you did a video and house tour! What is the name of it? Also, I need to have a consult with immigration attorney
Awesome! You can find out more about the Privada in that video. All the information is in the description of the video. Same goes for Jose Novelo's information. He can help you with immigration and finding a place just like the one you saw in the video. In fact he was the one who helped them get that place. You should email him for more information
Jose you answered a question, but I'm looking at bringing my truck down . I know they charged $500 depending on age of truck. Can you tell what the transfer fees would be in Mexico are? Or a phone number or website we can look up the taxes for trucks coming into Mexico? Just looking at the import cost. If you already provide information can link video for me. Thanks you.
Getting a TIP for your car while you are on your FMM or Temporary visa is one thing and Importing your car when you are a Permanent Resident is something else. Both are very different. Information on obtaining your TIP "Temporary Import Visa" can be readily found online. As for car importation thats when things get dicey because as mentioned in the video the Blue Book value is used to determine the price and that changes every year. This is why if you do decide to import your vehicle it is recommended you hire an expert to help you with such a major undertaking.
Jose Novelo Explained it in the Video. But you need your Valid Passport with at least 1 stamp in there prior to 2022 an expired FMM and fill out the appropriate paperwork. You can also contact him directly for more information
@@JoseArteagaTravelsI lost the tourist card I filled up in 2019 in airplane but still have the stamps in the passport. Do I still qualify? Planning to visit Mexico in May 2024 and get residency. We traveled to Mexico just last week so our son has stamp from 2023.
The immigration stations in the Airports are just an extension of the immigration entry points when entering or leaving Mexico. You just ask for the immigration office/center and they can help you with your visa issues before leaving the country

You can legally have your American/Canadian Truck in Mexico with a TIP "Temporary Import Visa" which you can acquire with your Tourist Visa or your Temporary Residency. But once you acquire your Permanent Residency you can not Legally have your truck in Mexico anymore.
Can you provide the contact details of the lawyer? I came to Mexico in 2020 and stayed for a few months. I plan to move to Mexico in 2024. Would I qualify for a temporary residency under the RNE program after my visa expires in 2024?
The contact information is in the description of the video. It is also pinned at the top of all the comments and lastly the information is also availble on my website. Here it is again for your convenience José Miguel Novelo jmnovelo@mxlegalandtaxes .com
Thank you so much for your videos. I have never been in Mexico. If my first visit to Mexico will be in January 2024. Then I will stay in Mexico for 180 days. Then I will leave Mexico and will go to another country. Then I will come back to Mexico in the end of 2024, and then, I will stay in Mexico for 180 days again. The question is: can I then apply for a RNE Residency Program in Mexico in 2025?
It's 2024. I haven't visited Mexico yet . . . so what are my options since that program isn't available for me? Edit: I've watched more - when I arrive at the border, do I tell the border force I plan to stay for 180 days (6 months) so my FMM will state that?
I can not answer that for you. That is something you need to figure out on your own. If you are looking to get your residency as quickly as possible you can simply get the necessary stamps on your passport by crossing the border and crossing back or taking a vacation to Mexico. We talk about it in the video and give people suggestions. If that is not enough information you can hire Jose Novelo for a 1 on 1 consult and he would be more than happy to guide you all the way through the process.
Tengo 8 años qué sali de México, podría seguir valido mi tarjeta de residencia permanente? Todavía la tengo, Estoy en USA actualmente, planeo regresar a México en unos meses más,
You need to be in Mexico in order to go through the RNE Program. Everything is explained in detail in the video. Once you are in Merida Yucatan and are ready to proceed he can help you out. Please understand he is a very busy individual and he is here to help people out with the process once they are ready to proceed. His concentration of expertise is Real Estate, Mexican Taxes, and Business Law. He also offers immigration services but that is not the only thing he does. Perhaps he hasn't gotten to your email or perhaps you might be asking him something that was already answered in the video or perhaps there is nothing he can do to help you. There are many reasons why he might not have answered your email. From what what you are saying in your comment it seems you already qualify for the program and therefore can get it done at any INM office in Mexico. He is only able to help you if you are in the region of the Yucatan Peninsula not if you are in another country. Hope all that helps answer why he might have not responded in a timely manner. Thank you for understanding.
Jose Novelo explains the timeline in the video. I dont know the exact dates off the top of my head. Regardless you should be fine as the program isnt going away anytime soon, as explained in the video
It doesnt make much sense though. And if you reenter now you will be on a new FMM. You still have to wait for it to expire. And it doesnt help if you were previously on a Temp visa.
You can get your FMM for as many days as you'd like 1 or 180 so just plan accordingly and you can have an expired FMM sooner than you think. Also if you already have a Temporary Visa you can just renew it or upgrade to a Permanent Visa. If it has been too long since it has expired you can just apply for the temporary again. It's really not that complicated. Hope that information helps!
@JoseArteagaTravels thank-you for the reply Jose. I have asked friends there for more information. I don't want to afford a lawyer. And it's a long way to come if it fails. I'll try make it to Merida and buy you a beer if I get there.
Do you have a video explaining how to finalize a Temporary Residency Visa once in Mexico after it has been granted at a US consulate? We need to do that by March 2024 and would love some advice. It appears that a lot of the process can now be done online.
I do not I am sorry. But from my understanding it is pretty easy. You just show up to the local immigration office with your stamp. Sorry wish I had more info. I'm sure someone else out there has done a video or written an article on it.
Yes you would qualify! But Jose can only help you if you are in the region of the Yucatan which is where we are located. He is based out of Merida. If you are out here he would be more than happy to help you out!
This is hard to understand the way you're saying it. What I want to know is if you are 65 and over, that if you come there for your 180 days, get your paperwork in order, and then go to the immigration office inside Mexico, can you get your residency with any income as long as it's something like Social Security?
If you want to get Residency through retirement it has to be at a Consulate. If you want to get your residency in Mexico through an immigration office it has to be through the RNE Program. If you go through a Consulate you need to provide proof of income and it is at their discretion what they think is enough. Each Consulate is different and each employee is different. If you obtain Residency through the RNE program in Mexico then all you need to provide is a stamp on your passport from 2011-2022, an expired FMM Visa, Your Passport fill out paperwork and pay fees and you got Residency without providing any financial solvency. Hope this makes sense.
Jose, could you just clarify two more things, please? You wrote "a stamp on your passport from 2011-2022, an expired FMM Visa,". What is the difference between a stamp in your passport (which I have) and an expired FMM, which I DON'T have, because I assume it's the form you had to fill out on the plane up to 2022, and which you hand back on leaving Mexico. If that's the case, how would you have possession of it? Also, another point - do you have to have overstayed your visa, or just simply be a visitor who left within the time specified, like the 180 days? I can't determine whether that's the case or not. Thanks again, if you wouldn't mind answering! @@JoseArteagaTravels
You need a stamp on your passport and an Expired FMM. The only way for you to have an expired FMM is for you to have Never left Mexico..... so if you dont have one then you need one. But there are many different scenarios beyond that. I suggest if you have any further questions you contact Jose Novelo Directly and set up a Consultation
@@priscillacatalina1065 You can also try the RNE program or another avenue. Check out this video to see ALL of your options th-cam.com/video/oOwz5iB2IS4/w-d-xo.html
I got legal advice, the content here is exception, not the rule. It would largely be only for undocumented migrants and not available to those with money.
That is 1000% Not True. The RNE program is availble to Everyone no matter what you income level. The RNE program is alive and well and helping those interested in obtaining legal residency in doing so. Mexico wants everyone living in Mexico or wanting to live in Mexico to have their Temporary Residency so they can function in the Mexican economy.

Thank you guys for such a valuable info. I hope guys make an update video for 2024 Mexico immigration rules.

Saludos!

You're very welcome! Glad it was helpful!
I called immigration attorneys in Puerto Vallarta. Im 65 all say i have to apply in Mexican consul in us California first before they can help.

Hi, super content! How does one flip the 4 year residency into a permanent residence?
It is actually just automatic. When you go to immigration to renew your Temporary Residency they will say No and prompt you to get your Permanent Residency. Simply put after living in Mexico with a Temporary Residency for 4 years, that automatically qualifies you for you to get your Permanent Residency. and after 5 years of being in Mexico you can get your Mexican Citizenship and Passport.
@@JoseArteagaTravels Super, thanks a bunch. Last question, is it possible to buy a car on an FMM? I will try to make it to Merida this year. Would love to buy you a beer or ten.

Sounds like a great topic for you to set up a consultation with Jose Novelo with.
When we visited in summer 2022 we didnt actually get a stamp it was just yhe form, then last year it was just printed for automatic 180 days. So i imagine it's in the system? Would i still be able to use the RNE if i visited in 2022?
Great question! I think you would be in the system but I would contact and ask Jose Novelo directly to see how he can help
I have been to Mexico twice, May 2023, and Nov 2023, but have never been asked to fill out an FMM, but my passport was stamped 180 days. Would I still be eligible for RNE, and must you be 65yrs or older? Thank you
Yes you can qualify for next year your entries into Mexico are recorded in the immigration computer, and you can be any age
@@JoseArteagaTravels thank you Sir, you are so kind to put all this information out there.
We are coming next month for a visit to have a stamp for 2024. Won’t be moving until April 2025. So that means we should be eligible for an RNE in 2026? Just trying to understand
Correct if the RNE program is still around in 2026 then a stamp on your passport has to be from 2014-2024 so yes you would qualify.
I went to puerto vallarta November 2022... can i apply...?
You should be able to. Good luck!
I crossed into Los Algodones about 3-years ago for dental work. There was no passport stamp (wasn't needed crossing by foot), but I did have an FMM and Mexican car insurance.

But you can't get health insurance if you apply for the insurance at age 70 or older. Bring mucho emergency cash with you because you will be dipping into it as you age.
I know many people over 70 in Mexico with plenty of options for medical care. In fact most love how it is here more than in the US
@@JoseArteagaTravels I am very concerned about this in the USA.

Thank you!!

So happy to hear that! Congratulations!

No it has to be from 2012 -2022
I came to Mexico for 180 days in 2023. So i dont yet qualify to do the program now that its 2024?
Jose Novelo explains the timeline in the video. I dont know the exact dates off the top of my head. Regardless you should be fine as the program isnt going away anytime soon, as explained in the video
HOW MUCH DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE TOBE APPROVE TO BE RESIDENCE ?
It depends on the Consulate. They are all different. Jose Novelo goes into more detail in he interview
Who can help me to apply for permanent residency? I do not speak Spanish. Me and my wife we qualify for the financial requiermnet
You must apply through a Mexican Consulate. Your best bet is to search online for anyone in the area of your nearest consulate for more information.

@@JoseArteagaTravels Yes, that is very concise and makes perfect sense.

So I’m confused. Sorry. So you’re saying I could get residency by just having a relative that was born in Mexico without the temporary residency?
It has to be a parent born in Mexico for you to qualify
@@JoseArteagaTravels thank you so much for helping out. Does that include not having a bunch of money in the bank
Is 3000 a month enough for one person
From usa
It’s more than enough. It’s Mexico not Australia or Dubai
Yes it's enough
This is my dilemma 😢
If there is a will there is a way
@@JoseArteagaTravels very true I don’t qualify for economic solvency so I’m going to try a different consulate
@@priscillacatalina1065 You can also try the RNE program or another avenue. Check out this video to see ALL of your options th-cam.com/video/oOwz5iB2IS4/w-d-xo.html
@@JoseArteagaTravels I didn’t visit during those times so I wouldn’t qualify.
Can I have my car in Mexico and just drive it back and forth just with a permit
Yes you can
@@JoseArteagaTravels Ty. I looked it up and I wana say only for 180 days and that’s it.
Repeat?
This is an edited down version of the Livestream we did last week with Jose Novelo. Hope you enjoy the show!
So did the attorney say that if you are 65 and have a pension from a company you can get residency?
Im sorry I did get FMN but they did not stamp my passport
it's ok you should still be in the computer.
No, not true. Contact Jose Novelo - we completed the process with him three weeks ago, and are now Temporary residents.
