    I got mine used for $80 in red and I love it. No clue why people talk shit on them. You can get all kinds of tones out of it. Everyone is mind warped with just cranking humbuckers. Roll the knob just a tad and completely different sounds.

      My favorite for these..? Crank your gain and volume on your amp and use your volume on the guitar to dial in your clean or dirty tone. Excellent find!!! Hang on to that lady!

    I have gibson‘s, fender‘s, Ibanez, Brian Moore, Schechter’s,epiphones.. I picked this guitar up for $75. There’s not a mark on it. In fact, because of its finish you won’t see any marks on it because it’s not a gloss finish. It won’t stay in tune so I’m going to upgrade the tuners. I love the neck. there is no fret sprout, no pick guard, The intonation is good. I will gig with this guitar. I’m not gonna worry about beer bottles bouncing off of it, getting caught in the rain, taking it out when it’s below freezing on a gig, I’m not gonna worry about it.
    I have a Gibson Les Paul standard gold top HH. It is so perfect, that it is useless to me because I never take it out of the case. I’m afraid that I’m going to put a mark on it, I won’t take it on a gig, I won’t let anybody else play it, I’ve had it since 2010, and it still has the original strings on it, that’s how little I have played it because it cost so much money I’m afraid to harm it. so it’s actually useless to me. My EPI Les Paul special is a fantastic value, because I play the shit out of it. I don’t even put it back in the case. Gibson, it stays in its coffin

      I’m telling you, the weight alone is worth it. The fact that they also are sustain-y as hell (for a bolt on/if set up properly) is crazy value. The stock pickups sound really damn good as well. Can’t go wrong with these. We’re in a golden age for guitars!

    i've had mine for about 2 yrs now, awesome guitar. I have a Les Paul Class Custom Pro that is my fav guitar, but that sucker is a back killer, lol! This little special is so light, i can play for hours with no discomfort. The P90s work great for my style (more of a hard rock/early heavy metal style), probably not so much with ultra high gain, but most people wouldnt probable try and play extreme metal with one of these anyways.

  • @snowmayne6283
    @snowmayne6283 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    How good are the stock pickups? My woman just bought me this guitar for Christmas, but it's on back order....it's my 1st ever guitar with P90s. I usually end up customizing the entire guitar, but I'm curious how good this is out of the box

    • @thebiginstrument
      @thebiginstrument  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think they are phenomenal.
      I max out gain and volume on a clean channel and put your master wherever you want.
      With the volume on the guitar up all the way, gorgeous sweet crunch. Pluck super light, and you get really articulate highs and deep low end.
      Pull the volume back to about 6 and you’ll get an amazing clean tone from both pickups. I’m typically a neck pickup guy. The bridge pickup on these guys are gold though. Just the right amount of punch.
      Are they AS hot as Gibson p90’s..? No.
      But for the Epiphone iteration I think they’ve knocked it out of the park.
      I didn’t sell this guitar. 😂😂😂
      My buddy fell in love with it so she’s staying in the family. 👍👍
      Set your action low, string it up with some 09’s and you’ll fall in love.

      @@thebiginstrument Is the hum as bad as they say?

    • @thebiginstrument
      @thebiginstrument  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Flat wound single coils... I mean, yeah if you crank everything, you’ll get some hum. P90’s by design are pretty microphonic. Doesn’t matter the brand or build.
      Play with your tone and volume knobs on the guitar. Dial it in. There’s something to be said about the full blown sound, but the pickup design themselves are very wide ranging. I know it seems counter intuitive, but dialing the volume back really allows the pickups to shine without a lot of excessive noise. Just clean warm tones.

      I bought a TV yellow Epiphone LP Special (2020) and a Gibson one (2019). Pickups in both are great. The Epi was a little more trebly and howling. I had recordings I played for friends who played guitar and NO ONE could say for sure which was which. It was about 50/50 as to what people preferred. In the end I sold the Epi because the Gibson does play and feel better, and the neck pickup is more mellow, which I like. But if I was gigging, 100% I would use the Epi live.

      As of November 2022, they’re going around $150 used (depending on condition). If you’ve played it and love it, yes. Go for it. They’re awesome guitars.
      Consider a professional setup if it needs it. 👍

      No, not really. I mean, I’m Sicilian, and very oily. 😂😂
      I can get finger print marks on anything.
      But no, it’s not a glossy finish so finger print marks and so forth will be very minimal if at all. (Mileage will vary depending on your conditions of course.)

    What's the difference with the special VE?

    • @thebiginstrument
      @thebiginstrument  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Main differences are this model has P90 pickups instead of humbuckers, and the VE is the Epiphone fancy acronym for “vintage edition”.

      😂😂 that’s one heck of a crack at epiphone! Personally I love them. I love the satin finish. (It will shine up in you in areas you play or touch a lot over time) but that’s kinda the fun of a flat finish.
      Not everyone knows guitar history or keeps up with models past and present, so as long as they did a good job for you 👍. If not, I’d seriously consider bringing it to a tech or luthier that is somewhat familiar with models made with the last 30 years. 😜😜
      (Not a knock at them, if their your place, by any means.)
      Bring them a Les Paul GT or modern, and they may call the cops on you. 😂😂
