    Now that's the sort of ebike I would buy. One that looks and behaves likes a real bike and is a quality unit. Thanks for sharing. I'll now go and investigate if they are available in Oz.

      I'm also looking in Oz but they seem to be only available direct from Tenways AU, and they are out of stock in every colour and size. If the manufacturer themselves are out of stock it makes me suspect it's been discontinued or about to be superseded alread. Aventon Soltera.2 looks like the next best thing but it's ~2kg heavier and the cable management looks quite messy by comparison.

    Bucyrus-Erie was a really quality mining equipment manufacturer from the late 1800's in Bucyrus, Ohio. They made the industries best equipment for a long time. My Dad started drilling water wells in Michigan on a Bucyrus Erie 20w cable tool rig. (Still have it and it can still pound pipe) love seeing that old heavy metal.

    I've got a Raleigh with a gates belt on it, over 5000 miles on it ! I would have gone through at least one chain already ! No lube and silent ! I'd buy a belt drive again for recreational use or commuting any time !

    Fabulous review, always love the scenery when you're out and about. I rode a torque sensing e-bike with a chain and 9 speed cassette for about 5 years and it used to eat chains and cassettes like nobody's business!! I'd much rather have a belt drive on it. Keep up the good work! 👍

    Chris,always love your e-bike reviews. Just a test ride suggestion since the weather is getting nice now. Take your bike in your truck and start your ride at the park and ride lot (Yardley)at the Pennsy side of the Scudders Fall bridge. The parking lot is well lit at night and has mobile security patrols and cameras all over the place. The lot connects to the tow path right at the bridge to go over the walkway to The Jersey side. ( u go right past the 1799 house that has 2 beautiful public restrooms). From the parking lot to Prattsville Mill( also nice public restrooms there)in Stockton is exactly 14 miles. I think your viewers would really like the ride along the scenic Delaware river, past Washington Crossing thru Lamberville and Stockton.

  • @napilopez
    @napilopez ปีที่แล้ว +1

    had to chuckle a little at "a chain is more reliable" than the belt drive but great review overall. FWIW, the belt will very likely outlast the battery and replacing it isn't that expensive; they go for about $50-$60. Replacing the belt also doesn't require any special tools unlike a chain(in a non-split frame) They are much harder to find in a local bike shop, so that is a real con, but your best bet is to just buy yourself an extra belt after a couple of years just to have a backup ahead of time).

    Something *I don't like* about this bike is the frame-integrated front-light: when you take a turn in pitch dark, the wheel turns but the light shines straight. Most of Decathlon bikes have the same issue back in E.U.

    The US version should have a *350W* hub motor. 250W for the UK and EU to conform with their laws. I've been looking at this bike for a while. If it had front suspension, I'd be more willing to drop the $1900. I'm waiting for that price to come down or until something better comes along. If I go with something else, surely it won't look as good!

      @charlienyc1 wheels are way out of round. Some screw holes needed to be cleaned out.
      Fenders seem cheap(I have no reference, I've never owned a fender bike.
      Tiny air pump it comes with would be convenient if it was reliable. Sometimes it pumps air.. sometimes it doesn't. Spent a long time trying to air up my tires..
      Brakes need adjustment out of box(that's fine and easy with discs)
      Cannot adjust rear disc. Out of round but I'm attributing that to the wheels being out of round.(slight rubbing in one area)
      I have no actual bike equipment. I moved quite a distance two years ago and left everything behind and sold many things.
      I haven't ridden in years and this was my way back into it... I've never bought a bike in a box so I have nothing to compare to as far as quality control or pre assembly.
      Might take it to a bike shop for inspection and alignment before maiden voyage.
      Love the way it looks and my 4 year old had fun helping me put it together.

    The belt drive is supposed to last for 30.000 km (a bit under 20k miles) and you should not be worried about it. I'd love to have one at some point myself as they are maintenance free, silent and they don't accumulate dirt like a lubed up chain would. Concerning the headlight level: Is there no way to adjust it? The specifications of the thing at 20 Lux are somewhat poor (my 100 Lux dynohub powered one is multitudes more powerful, specs-wise) and I wouldn't expect it to perform too great, but not being able to adjust it at all to your preference and use cases seems to be a big flaw.

      Good question. I'm not sure I'll have to try

    • @ruffdood6706
      @ruffdood6706 ปีที่แล้ว

      Programming in a smaller wheel diameter would increase the numerical speed indicated on the display but wouldn’t change the bike’s actual performance. It might make you falsely feel like you’re riding faster by seeing a higher mph. If you could swap rear wheels to a smaller wheel (which is easier said than done probably… or at least more costly than you might think), the bike would be a bit easier to pedal from a standing stop but you would hit your top pedaling pace sooner (at a lower speed) - ghost pedaling likely. Changing the belt drive sprocket or sprockets is another option to alter the range of pedaling efficiency, but what you “gain” in torque you lose in doable pedaling-pace at high speed - since it’s a single “speed” drive. To convert to a chain and sprocket drive train would require a compatible axle configuration (and possibly the frame geometry). Perhaps that’s doable, but likely not worth the effort to modify (just trade bikes). The belt drive is way more reliable than a chain… and the single speed means all the complexity of a multiple-speed transmission makes maintenance even easier. The belt drive is quieter by far. And the belt drive is cleaner than a chain… they are designed to operate without lube and tolerate mud, rain, snow… whatever. If a single speed bike without suspension works for you in your terrain, this bike will be a pleasure compared to heavier, noisier, cadence sensor e-bikes (torque sensors are great for control ability… but they’re even greater if the bike has a “throttle” too).

    Gates carbon drive belts are faaaaar superior to chains. Yes they are more expensive, but also last 10,000 miles and are virtually maintenance free.

    The sensor is called "PAS : Pedal assist sensor", it's technically a hall sensor. It has nothing to do with torque just detects if the wheel changed position (i.e rotated).
    It's the same thing used to detect if you put some object in his holder , for example the "gun" for the hit hot air station.

      @NNKH2  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's what most ebikes have. This one has a torque sensor. It's different. It senses how much force you're putting on the pedals. Totally different ride from all the other ebikes I've been on.

      I don’t think that’s correct. Torque sensors like they use on this bike actually have strain gauges built into them. Very different from the standard pedal assist cadence sensor.

      @masteryoda394 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ericschneider7648 yes the NNKH already corrected me on this. Check his answer.
      Torque sensors provide a better experience than PAS.

    I am concerned about the size. How tall are you? I am 6' 5" and I have a hard time getting a bike that fits me. You had a Large version? How did it feel like for sizing on you? Thanks.

    • @NNKH2
      @NNKH2  ปีที่แล้ว

      It felt like a good size for me. But then again I'm not too picky about sizing when it comes to bikes to be honest so I'm probably a bad person to ask

    How tall are you? I'm 1.78m / 5'10" and wonder if getting the medium is a better choice than large. I'm kind of in between sizes, and i can't really test drive the bike where I live.

    Have you thought about doing a befang kit? The one I got was pretty good, found out about the torque sensor afterwards and that is one thing I wish I had on mine, though this year I plan on tuning it a bit since this one is a 1kw downtuned to 750w

    • @NNKH2
      @NNKH2  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the kids are pretty awesome. I did the gasoline motor kit a while back and I really like that one. But I already have a purpose built e-bike so it wouldn't make sense to do a kit one. For me. But for anybody else, yeah definitely an awesome idea!

    Hey bud with this bike you would only have to charge with wire as opposed to a removable battery that can be charged separately ?

    • @NNKH2
      @NNKH2  ปีที่แล้ว

      As with this one, Most bikes you can charge with the battery in the bike or out of the bike.
