They take inspiration from each other but the main difference is Korean makeup focuses of natural looks and eyes, chinese makeup is more making yourself more like a doll, like a perfect human face and more out there eye looks compared to the more toned down eyes in Korean makeup

people keep getting mixed up chinese makeup and korean makeup 😭 chinese makeup always looks glam but soft at the same time, while korean makeup is more on natural look. I was scrolling on weibo and douyin before and most people are upset because of the same reason 😬 i wish people would know the difference between the two

I'm also surprised that people who are into K-beauty don't talk about JSM either. I remember following her over a decade ago. Maybe in like 2010 or 2011? I always enjoyed how she did her videos because it was different from just a beauty video. It felt like you were taking a makeup class rather than someone just doing a look if that makes sense. honestly Edward is the only beauty content creator that i still watch even if the videos are 40 min long, just bc he gives so much useful information and knows his thing. When I was younger I'd sit through a whole bunch of beauty videos that don't teach anything just for fun, but now that I'm on my mid 20s I only enjoy this type of content, and Edward is great aswelll, very direct and funny, love him

Thank you so so much for acknowledging us very pale girlies here in the west. It is so hard to find shades light enough in the brands i like a lot of the times and i feel like its not talked about as much. Obviously we have it better than those with very dark skin tones, but i feel like each of the extremes is rarely acknowledged in western beauty shade ranges.😅
And even then, if they're light, it's always very yellowy
Even here in Sweden, where most people are on the paler side, even when buying Swedish brands, everything is too dark for me, and I'm not even that unusually pale...

@@aspannasidk if Sweden has the brand “collection” but I’ve found their light shades to be quite good, and they’re more pink toned than yellow so it doesn’t look so mask-y

I also like to mention the reason for the lack of diverse skin tones for foundation is because of Asian beauty standards. The beauty for having fair to pale skin is very much popular. Especially in South Korea.
As a vietnamese, kbeauty trends never fit my features. But cbeauty/douyin style on the other hands, suits my features so well
K-beauty definitely “grew up” like in 2015 it was young and bubbly “I am fresh into the world” type beat.
Now its like “I got a 9-5 job and bills to pay but I finna make it look like it’s easy” type lewk~
the thing eddie said abt the foundation tone is so true. i was always using the lightest shade in western brands and it was still too dark for me. when i got into kbeauty i finally found foundation that suited my skin tone (even tho it ended up still being the lightest tone again lmfao)
honestly just glad that i could watch james’ video through here lmao
but i think it’s more just trying the actual makeup and less the makeup trend cuz the end result still looks like western style makeup

Chinese or douyin makeup is almost fairy-like in appearance, glam but soft and fairy-like. K-beauty is mostly really just clean aesthetics. Also in Chinese makeup they like to use A LOT OF FREAKING GLITTER! Some Chinese makeup like to use thos red, dark-rose palette.
I'm Asian and yeah.. the Too Cool for School contour palette is indeed too orange for me. Also would love to see a video more about aegyo sal makeup. I'm learning so much from Eddie

I’m a red head and I have the exact problem find foundations like Edward said it’s to the point where I gave up on makeup especially with all my freckles and me being so red & literally the palest person in my school….
I've seen comments from other really pale people who use Korean products to find their match. Hope that helps :)
I am also a redhead, I mainly use Korean and Chinese products for the skin. Everything in Germany is so yellow and ooks like coffee on my skin so Korean products are a life saver

i always had a hard time matching my skin tone in western makeup. when I switched to a Korean foundation, It matched so well, I've never looked back at western makeup. The other plus side is that I also don't react to a fair number of kbeauty products (I have contact dermatitis, so it can be challenging to find products where I won't break out after so many uses), so another win for kbeauty/korean skin care products!

I was on a k beauty mailing program for new and trending makeup. It included a lot of masks, serums, scrubs and foams.... etc. The makeup was all very flattering and not dark. I wear nearly no makeup at 43 and refuse to start now lol I am really very pale and loved the foundation.

Usually clio foundations are lighter than usual on me too but their pink mesh ver matches me pretty well, even the 21 one works for me. And the formulation is amazing for me.
