    Both are amazing guitars, but I'm leaning towards the viper. Maybe not quite as versatile with voicings, but I like it's voice better. Great video.

      Yeah it’s tricky for me too… the Viper sounds more solid to me.

    I've had the Epiphone SG for a few days. Workmanship and sound are very good. A really nice guitar.

    Chances are that the ESP LTD Viper 1000 is also heavier.
    I have an ESP LTD Viper Deluxe (Seymour Duncan), and a Gibson SG Special HP (24 frets), and the Gibson SG is way lighter than the ESP LTD Viper ... BUT the Viper plays a thousand times better (better sustain, better neck, etc).

    • @StringsofRock

      Yea the Viper feels heavier!

      Pretty sure the body of a standard viper is apx 10mm thicker than a normal sg

    • @philcasogonzo14

      The prophecy is thicker than a standard sg. It’s mahogany with a half inch maple cap and weighs 10 pounds. I can’t imagine the viper weighing more 🤔

    Nice video, you cover most important points. The Viper 1000 is sold in Australia close to the price of the Gibson SG Tribute whose comparison would be interesting to see. The Prophecy sounds like more metal oriented, I’m after nice clean tones and a bit of crunch

    • @StringsofRock
      @StringsofRock  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I never thought I would see the day that an Epiphone anything came this highly optioned. Ebony fretboard? YES. Top shelf electronics? YES. Passable quality control? YES. The LTD's one leg up on the Epiphone is that the LTD is made in South Korea not China like the Epiphone.

    • @cybercyberneticcyborg2185
      @cybercyberneticcyborg2185 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      tbh I had a pair of Epiphones pickups from South Korea which failed and then I swapped by the new Epiphone Pro buckers from China and now the guitar sounds better than ever.

    • @tommilitello198

      And you’re the type that if it was a gibson you’d say there was no comparison,the Gibson is better,made in the u.s. by a Mexican lmfao

      I think the ltd 1000 series now get made in both the south korean factory and the Indonesia factory, im not sure specifically which models or markets get which, or if it's more or less random chance when you got into a store

  • @marcusnorman46

    I've had both of these guitars - well, I 'have' the Viper and I sold the SG. The SG was great, a nice player and lots of tonal variety. But I found that it just felt slightly cheaper overall - and the neck dive was awful...truly awful.
    Overall the Viper is just a really solid feeling, and great sounding guitar. There is some neck dive, but I didn't find it to be as bad as the SG at all. If you know what a higher end Indo/Korean LTD feels like, then the Viper absolutely doesn't disappoint.
    In short, I wasn't inspired by the SG, but I can play the Viper for hours on end and not get bored!

    The Vipers start 200 dollars more than the Epiphone. And you just have so many more sound options with the actives on the Epiphone. To me, the Epiphone just has more options available to make it sound the way you want it to.

    • @EvilMerlin
      @EvilMerlin 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @leonwilcox-tp2jg My point still stands, the first Viper with actives is still 200 bucks more than the Epiphone and that one is only available in one colour.

  • @albertmarkethinkpr1325
    @albertmarkethinkpr1325 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think if Epiphone made the Prophecy Series with passive Seymour Duncan pickups it would have been much better. Active pickups get old really quick.
