It was and is a great song, but I don't think it was necessarily ahead of its time? It's an alt rock/pop rock song and fit right in with the sounds of the mid 00s. It sounds like what the Jonas Brothers and The Veronicas were doing at the time. Cool teen pop rock with an edge.
