You can get a plastic imitation veneer surrounds Over the broken cracked plastic around the centre consul. Check out the drag coefficient which was achieved in the Japanese wind tunnel. Very interesting achievement for the time Close to the numbers for supercars. Lexus made less money on these models because of their high quality compared to other product. They have no trouble going 4 and 500,000 km. I kept my 430 and I also bought an LS 460 L all wheel drive. Ultra premium package with TV in the rear between the seats. Very different cars. I still love the LS 430. Had an LS 400 also, a 92 for quite a few years sold it to a friend. He put 475 kilometres( 298m). At that point it was 20 years old and the brake lines and coolant lines were starting to rust out in salty Canada,,, stainless exhaust system still intact after 20 years wow.
I have a lexus ls430 2001. It just passed 300,000 miles.it has the original engine and transmission. At 250,000 miles radiator was replaced. No major problems. Just regular maintenance brakes pads, fluids, timing belt, sparkplugs. Every mechanic says that the engine will last pass 500,000 if l do the maintenance. The the lexus ls430 is a bulletproof car if you maintain it.

I've never gotten less than 20mpg over the 5k miles I've owned the car . The ONLY problem mechanical issue is that the backup sensors don't work. I could care less! Back to the engine; Amazing to get 290 HP and super gas economy out of 263 cubic inches.
I have a 2001 LS430 with a badly blistered dash. Would the dash from the Ultra Luxury model be able to be swapped out? Do they have the same cutouts for the radio, vents, etc.? Thanks and congratulations on the car!

GREAT buy Pete!! I've owned a LS400 and a LS460L and they ran like track stars. The only thing I'll say is to change the Water Pump and Timing Belt every 150k (Per Lexus) If you do that, it can very well run to 500k and beyond. (Nee; Matt Farrah's million mile Lexus) The resale value on them is INCREDIBLE!! You may even double your money and some. Be careful letting the Wife ride in it. She may tell you to ditch the Benz and keep the Lexus! The only thing that got my Wife out of the 460L was Bernadette (The S600) and that V12. Have fun, enjoy, and keep riding clean!!
Lol. You are so right. I took her in it yesterday and she was in love. Fortunately for me my wife is a sucker well built classics and would rather keep the Benz. She also knows it's the only car I may never sell. But for now we may keep the Lexus at least for a year or so
When you start the car does the HVAC system come on if you had it on when last shut down or do you have to press "On"? I ask because I would want remote start but wouldn't do much good if I had to go out to the car to turn on the HVAC.

Funny thing is I was trying to figure that out today. I went to look at another one that had navigation but no rear seat option and no soft close. Not sure why it wasn't standard.
@@petescarport There are options and packages. Just because it's a "L" doesn't mean it has a particular option. I had the backseat rear option but no 'fridge. You want them all, you are going to pay for them all! The was a $100k car at one point!
@@LukeK1738 I can't speak on the 430 but in the 2007 LS460 L, it is an OPTION! The "L" isn't for luxury, it's LONG WHEEL BASE. Luxury is the package and the 'fridge had to added. It's a trunk pass thru when the 'fridge option isn't chosen.
@@datdamndavisboy I believe your right. We have to consider this car was marketed to the retired wealthy. Most of the customer base didn't even want navigation. Even rolls Royce and Bentley at this time didn't have options we see in today's Corolla if customer didn't want it.
Honestly they are both amazing but I feel the Mercedes is a more solid car with heavier sound proof. The lexus feels lighter on all the material and also feels lighter on the road. Now compared to the 2001 w220 I had I would say the ls430 is way better but Mercedes really went all out on the w140

But I didn’t pay much at all for mine and sold mine for around $5500. Most I see listed with what you’re saying sell for $$7-10k with a few above that but typically with lower mileage. I would say the car is well worth $8k if you can get if for that and have it inspected.

Yes you are right and trust me I'm a Mercedes fan boy if you watch my other videos. Lol. Currently own 85 190e, 95 s500, 96 s600, 86 420sel and also own a 2010 BMW 550i. Mercedes always did it right but Lexus came in hard with price, value and they really nailed it with reliability. In my optionion Mercedes is still the top when it comes to quality and craftsmanship.
all trims get yamaha wood from japan the ultra luxury edition doesnt give you any different or upper scale wood, make sure you know your stuff before making those statements.
Wow why so angry. Simply made a statement that the tone or color is different and grain does look different from the standard. So my dad has been in the wood industry for 50 + years and I was interested to know what Yamaha wood was. I tried to Google it and couldn't find anything called Yamaha wood. so in my research I found that many people in forums said the greyish color is Birdseye Maple and the reddish you see there is Red Walnut. This was something stated in many forums. Sounds more likely but I'm not needing to argue this. And there's no need to be angry over somebody making a video. But I'm glad I ruined your day over some wood ;)
So I finally found an article written by totota that explains they partnered with the company Yamaha to cut the wood and prepare for their LS line of cars. Hope this helps. As for the type of wood I will have to find something to confirm it.

Just got a 2001 Ls430 with 138000 miles for $1000. Nice to drive. Small thing but the front seats have small drawers in them!

2002 Ultra without touch screen navigation .... my 2001 has it. What gives?
When you ordered the car from lexus, you had the option to have the touch screen nav or not.

Wet sand starting with 800 grit then 1000grit, then 2000grit and then finish with buffing polish compound

Rubing compound worked for me on my inlaws 430.just thought I'd share .or meguiars makes a headlight restore cream .just buff it in for a good 5 min.

My 2001 UL has navigation system installed. This is not the “UL”.
It was an option in the early years. You could get it without the navigation.
