WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

This episode is exactly what I've been asking for of this channel: push past the superficial topics, dive deep into the motivations (of the caller AND the ancient authors), expose the motives, give tools including scholarly methods, and call the caller out on their hypocrisy. Thanks!

Yes as a listener I am sick of calls from people like Kevin they do not want and will not have a conversation and instead just babble on preaching or talking about a conspiracy theory. I am glad you stopped him today and hope you will do do from now on
It was at about 3:42, having recognized every discussion Johnny brought up, that I realized I have listened to far too much of Kevin.
Kevin doesnt call in to have a shared dialogue, but Loves Attention and calls in to simply spew a barrage of new-agey-x-tian mush speculations without end,he's full of Certainty but his diatribes are basically fragmented exercises in pointless obsessionism...
Critical thinking skills. Missing from Kevin's many mantras. Some folks were never challenged by others to think critically of their own thought processes. Merely absorbing info doesn't add to thinking skills, becoming a false flag for gaining personal knowledge. Take responsibility for your thinking skills, Kevin. Liberating.

In this clip Johnny P conclusively proves that Kevin from NY will believe any old woo and bullshit that comes his way.
We are all biased, that's not just something with Kevin. But his way of thinking is incredibly closed.
I remember just accepting the claims of "We don't know who the gospel authors are" without questioning it much, but when I wanted to make sure, I went to Christian and apologist websites to check out their arguments. They did make some valid points, but in the end the conclusion was that you could sort of tie the gospels with the names they carry, but none of them were able to go "Oh, but we do have signed copies and we found them here on this date".
The best way to research a topic is to at least look at the claims/arguments made by those that disagree. Not exclusively, that might not be the most productive endeavor if they aren't convincing, but that should be a part of it.
Apocrypha are writings that were at first prized, later tolerated and finally excluded.
So that would include Aristotle's books on cosmology, physics and biology.
The problem for many ancient writers is that they had poor data.
If Jesus was alive now, he wouldn't be crucified.
Two things Kevin has a problem with. Coherent thought an constructing a sentence whic has some clear meaning.

I understand that this is far from their first run in with Kevin here, but this was excessively condescending, aggressive, and frankly a little bullying. It's worthwhile to take a look at sources like this, but if this were my first experience with Johnney or Lloyd, I'd've dismissed both as smug assholes, not honest interlocutors.
