Just found your site. Thank you for sharing your technique of using makeup sponges to apply the watercolor through the stencils and then drying them off before lifting. It’s a game changer !
You are just magical Erin! I would never have thought to use watercolor with stencils. (And I love stencils too!). Loved watching that face appear. Like I said - magical!
❤ it! Got tons of watercolors and stencils and you've motivated all of us to bring masterpieces to life using them. I was watching you thinking, THIS is STENCIL.GIRL!!!! Thanks gor sharing. Way cool!
Wow! I follow you in Instagram and saw the pic of this and had to see how you did it! I absolutely love it. I do not have a steady hand at all, but you did great! New subbie and big thumbs up. 😍
I just use those wedge makeup sponges. (You can get them cheap from a dollar store or really any retail shop.) just make sure your sponge isn’t overly saturated (wet) because then the watercolor will seep under the stencil. Best of luck! Xo
Erin I’m so chuffed to see your earlier tutorials. Love this one 🤸♀️ I have some stencils I haven’t used yet. Can’t wait to do so now! I love the muted shades . TFS You are a star 🌟
Thank you so very much Judy! Its by Stencil Girl--Pretty as a Peacock S288 You can get it at stencilgirlproducts.com or I believe someone said you might be able to find it on Amazon.
I’ve tried and failed this technique. Probably because I did it in an art journal that’s just clear gesso’d and I’m not using good quality watercolour paper 😞
oh boo! that's no fun! I'm sorry it didn't work out as you'd hoped. Maybe I'll have to try it that way and see if I can come up with any tips or tricks.
I am so onsessed with stencils but too student-loan-poor to buy them much. Lately, Ive been considering getting an electronic die-cutting machine so that I could make my own. The unlimited stencils might be worth the upfront investment.
Yes! That would totally work! I've created a couple of my own stencils using my silhouette cameo. Plus you could use it for die cuts and cut words and so many other things too! (I think I might be an enabler 😏 watch out! Haha)
Don't worry. I'm frugal enough (and have enough student loans) that making such a huge purchase won't be the result of anyone's encouragement, unless the encouragement comes in the form of 💰 money. 😉
Also, if you have any Tuesday mornings near you- go raid them! I get a lot of really cool stencils there for under $5 each! It can be like a treasure hunt because sometimes they pile them in with all the paper packs but just FYI 😉
The TM here opened earlier this summer and it's terrible. I don't think they've gotten new stock in the craft section since they opened. I've gotten a few good things there but most visits have been seriously disappointing and, believe me, I hunt.
