I have listened to this wonderful talk many times. I always get something new and useful. It is such a comfort and I am so grateful for the availability of such practical and demonstrable truth.
HER PRAYERS HEALED OUR HORSE. When we went to feed our old mare, Mona one late Saturday afternoon, we discovered a significant wire cut on her front shoulder. She and our 3 other horses were boarded at a friend's house, nearby. We decided to call a Vet to stitch it up. Since it was the last part of the day, he was able to come right away. He decided that since we couldn't hold her still enough to do it he would have to anesthetize her. It took about twice the dose to put her under, but finally she went down and he got her stitched up an bandaged. It was getting kind of late when she started to come around and that didn't go any better than putting her under.. We were trying to help her to stand up but she was unsteady and kept falling down. She thrashed around the corral until after dark throwing her head and at one point she went outside the plank fence an got under our van which was parked outside. We managed to free her up from that and get her back inside. There was an old carpet remnant on the ground and at that point she was nearly exhausted so we rolled her onto that carpet and dragged her out in to the center of the corral. At that point it was late and full dark .Things looked pretty bleak. I'm a Christian Scientist, but my Wife is not. Quite often when Christian Scientists have a problem we call on a Christian Science Practitioner to pray with us to help to get beyond the visual evidence of crisis. Lois was one such person. I don't usually call people at late hours for help, but Lois was in Boston and it so happened that she was getting on a plane to come to our town to give a talk to our little church group, I asked her if she would pray for Mona on her flight out here. We had left Mona lying flat on the carpet, exhausted and pretty scuffed up. She'd torn out the stitches that was the problem to start with, and now she had cuts and abrasions all over as well as one eye that had gotten abraded.. we had gone home -- we lived a couple of blocks away and the kids needed to eat and evening things hadn't been done. About 2 O'clock in the morning we went back to check and found Mona standing quietlyin the corral in the moonlight. In the morning we went to feed her and the other horses ,rubbed her gently down with a towel, and by afternoon we were able to introduce her to Lois, whom I brought over to see her after the talk to our church group. Mona's scuffs healed up pretty quickly within a week or so , including the original cut. she got her sight back in the damaged eye soon after.
This is so wonderful to hear, Jud. Effective prayer can really calm our fears and lead to healing for all! Thanks for sharing your experience with Christian Science.
What a wonderful talk. This gave me a lot of pause the very beginning before she even started. I need to live selflessness by knowing that what God wills I must abide by, no matter the opposition or human sense.
God told me to say that it's okay to talk to Him about the same things over and over - as long as we're listening for an answer - and how God answers us changes, as we change in understanding Him.
This talk is truly a blessing.
