It is crazy how this anime has faster pacing than most shonens, while having 90% of its scenes be characters yapping about philosophy (and then dying three episodes later). One of my favourite anime ever for me, no doubt. Actual masterwork.
Makes sense. It isn't a shounen. It's a seinen.
This 'feels' like real life, where a lack of closure is a common thing. What hits worse is that neither of them had any idea the other was alive...so close yet so far!
It’s a shame I’ve seen some people say that this was anticlimactic. I get they wanted some confrontation between the two, but I feel that what we got, and what will happen later in this arc, is even better.
Jolenta knew it was Nowak who stepped down from the carriage. Her initial plan was to wait until the troops got close enough to the cabin before blowing them all up along with herself. She blew herself up prematurely as soon as she recognized him because in the end she concluded she was never ready to face her father. And Nowak only knew it was his daughter in the aftermath. It was made quite clear in the manga.
@@phlaryx7145 I can't really help feeling at least a little disappointed at the lack of confrontation. Novak did so many horrible things and enforced a way of thinking that got even his own daughter tortured. I can totally understand why some fans wanted to see Jolenta deliver some sort of reckoning for that. It'll be hard for some fans to like the idea of that reckoning being delivered by someone who isn't as personally connected to him.
Soul crushing and yet, Anime of the Year without a doubt
That was sad; I was hoping he would see her, or she would notice him before that happened.
You know its rough for Brandon when he starts the video sounding like hes gone 17 rounds at the booze and got the hangover to prove it.
When I learned that Orb was getting an anime adaptation, I was so happy. Then I realized that I have to experience it all over again😨 It took me a year to reread the manga, and it will probably take me another year to rewatch the anime.
I love your analyses. After every ep I always watch several different reactions and your one is always the most insightful and authentic
Thank you so much!
I think what the mangaka Uoto is trying to say is the impermanence of life. People irl die unexpectedly like Gras or they die following their faith like Rafael, Oczy, Badeni, and Yolenta. Death can come to us at any given point, whether its ours or others. And because our life is limited, memories and what we have done in this life really matters

Pardon the pun, but Orb keeps blowing my expectations away. It’s criminal that this show is being slept on by the anime community
this is why, just like heliocentrism , it is our job to let more ppl be aware of it and what they are missing out
Sadly ppl are more excited for shounen/isekai slop
@@matt87eagle id let it be underrated rather than be bashed by ignorant fans
@@cdeleon3494 yup, I'm sad it's not more popular but at the same time when you see how the average anime fan called Vinland Saga season 2 boring, we may have dodged a big bullet in this one.
I'm going to buy the Blu-ray of this anime, because it's a type of show you can re-watch every couple years
I didn't realize she would blow up, I thought she was gonna burn herself and be a parallel to Nowak "seeing his daughter burnt alive"
Thats even more messed up
@@eclips_total2215 Ok thank goodness we didn't get this route that is even more gruesome
Actually that would've been amazing juxtaposition
There is still a chance! Draka took Jolenta's hood. They are as iconic as her gloves and match her gloves. I don't believe it is ever mentioned but visually they are identical in color, so I think they are a matching set. I still think Nowak will switch sides once he realizes what happened. The seed was planted with him seeing Jolenta for a split second, but it will be confirmed when he sees the hood.
@@Lilitha11 Be ready for the worst!
This episode just makes me more terrified of the finale
Nowack totally believes it was Jolenta: "Just now, for a brief moment..." [his voice trails off as he picks up the hand, not holding it by the wrist like you would a stranger, but first examining and then immediately and intimately intertwining his fingers as you would a loved one] No doubt in my mind that Nowack realized at the end it was Jolenta, but he's just too far gone at this point to cry any more tears, knowing that he directly contributed to her death when he had blamed it on other in the past; if it weren't for him, she'd still be alive as they wouldn't have been able to find her.
That was one of the most frustrating episode I ever saw, I never knew I could feel blueballed by an anime this hard. We were all theorising about how Yolenta and Novak's reunion would go only for Yolenta to blow herself up few meters away from Nowak without any of them confirming each other existance.
Bro I wanted Nowak to hold Yolenta one last time but not this way! At least not a piece of her...
I think the autor may be a sadist and they realised killing off character wasn't enough, they had to go further to see the reader / watcher suffer 😅.
Jolenta confirmed Nowak's identity, in fact that's why she blew herself up prematurely before the troops got within her explosion range.

I like Draka she's a fellow Aristotle enjoyer and to be honest I'm surprised how a gypsy girl of that time is so well educated. Because really, all the gypsies usually do is travel around, make money from singing, dancing and selling herbal concoctions. Like if you wanted a love potion or your future being told, you'd go to elderly gypsy woman. So I'm really surprised Draka is so well educated.
I had to keep this episode , the conversation was just mind boggling. I just have to watch it again❤❤❤❤❤
"I Should've watched this episode before solo leveling" Truer words have never been spoken.
I like how her life flashed before her eye as she knew she was about to die. Even if they saw each other it’s been years I doubt they would recognize each other.
How to pass a torch with a bang, literally!
Lmao
More like how to throw a torch into a bang lol
I can relate to Draka not the memorization part though but her conviction of earning lots of money.
Yeah................... don't think anybody's making it out alive at this point.
2:40 - Yeah well you got your 'bombshell', just in a different way than you expected.
6:22 lol I have a tendency to watch stuff that might be more intense/heavy first then something chill or fun/exciting afterwards
What a fool I was, thinking they’d even be able to see and recognize each others… speak to each other… but instead we had Novak holding her hand, like he did when she was a child but here he doesn’t even know it’s her, that they finally reunited… damn I’m broken
The Knights + Draka still know Jolenta's name. If they somehow say it to Nowak...
I watched the first episode, and I immediately knew where and when we were. I'm someone who loves to study history, but I learned there are some points in history that exceed my tolerance threshold for inhumanity. I know enough to know that Orb was going to break me. I know how popular this show is and how well it's been put together, but because it's based an real history I would struggle to keep reality and fiction separated. I hope Orb doesn't scar to many viewers.
also at least she lived a longer life than rafal, oczy or badeni 💀
i know i said early on that i'd hold off on putting this anime on my masterpiece list. after this episode, i have to. bravo to the production team.
Nowak lost Jolenta without even knowing that she's still alive. But for now for the 2nd time, Nowak lost her again without, f*cking knowing that Jolenta was the one who committed Harakiri in front of him.
It would have been much sadder if Nowak recognized Jolenta, or Jolenta recognized Nowak, or they both recognized each other at the same time before the boom-booms. Still sad, but I would have actually cried if either of them had recognized each other first.
Usually I'd agree but something about this works in the most twisted way
If you watch closely you will notice that they both noticed.
Jolenta noticed but Nowak noticed but doubted he saw what he saw and he said “Right now I think I just saw” then he didn’t continue with it.
He’s defo gonna find out it was her a couple episodes ago
@ - Hmm. I mean, I saw Nowak get out of the carriage, and it seemed like maybe that was Jolenta's point of view, seeing him walking out. And I saw him say that thing. But I feel like if he had REALLY thought it was her, he would have shown more emotion holding her arm.
@ He was in doubt that’s why he didn’t show much emotion.
Remember it showed his eye make contact with hers but it was only for a split second so he couldn’t conclusively say it was her.
He definitely doesn’t know for sure but he recognised the similarity of her face and that’s what probably led him to pick up her hand.
@bojackbojackbojack Imagine you believed your daughter had been dead for 25 years, you literally saw her body burning before your own eyes, only for the universe to decide one day to confront you with two facts: (1) nvm she's somehow not dead all these times, and (2) now she's dead for real anyway lol, all in less than 0.5 seconds. What emotion would you show? Or do you need 3 business days to even figure that out? That's pretty much what Nowak went through.
It's was the right decision for me to marinate it till now just completed watching all the 16 ep which i had left but man it is so hard to for upcoming ep to top ep 14
One of the first anime, i had to watch a TH-cam review because this anime is just a masterpiece. The last time i felt this way was when i watched Attack on Titan
I think that the only thing you can predict in the series is that it'll have interesting conversations, like ones about various philosophies and how they clash.
When she got those bags out i was saying are those material for something, then i was like......oh...😢
Damnn..the scene when Novak held her 'hand'. Oh my god, bawled my eyes. He doesn't even know that's his daughter. How is this show gonna end..#traumatized
I am fucking devastated dude my girl Jolenta is DEAD, this shit is like aot but if the show was not afraid to kill main characters, and you going to hell for this one buddy 0:52
edit: you going for this one too 2:36
I know nothing
AOT suddenly feels like power-of-friendship shonen in comparison to this lol
I still believe that Nowak will find out she's his daughter, we have a lot of pieces that can lead to this
Jolenta went out on her own terms. Absolute savage.
Next time, i watch this show first, then blue box, then watch solo leveling last 😂😂😂
I've learned something. I learned this when the blond kid died. No matter what, don't get an emotional connection to anyone in this show.
Yeah, I dont think I could rewatch this either 😭
We'll get the ending soon. I am excited for it!
傷心の兄貴に安息あれ。
I think Nowak will learn in retrospect. Like, he'll hunt Draka and Schmidt down and they'll somehow reveal that the leader who died for her heretical ideals was his daughter. I think he'll find out eventually.
What's interesting is the promotional poster of the 2nd half shows Draka, Schmitt, Jolenta, AND Nowak in the same circular formation parallel to Rafal, Badeni, Oczy, and Jolenta. I wonder if that signals Nowak eventually switching side to heliocentrism, or at least helping out our main characters while not necessarily adopt the heliocentrism faith himself. After all the suffering the audience went through that would be hella dope turn of tides.
Nowak will know the truth eventually
Not a lot left of her doe...
@@AHBrandonReviews Draka took her cloak
Raphael also went out on his on terms
This anime is king it breaks you and hurts you and the journey is one of kind but you still want to see it end no mater how much it will break you. Ths show will say with you for long long while.
Depression 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Why just why someone plsss let Nowak rest in fact let everyone have a happy ending for the last protagonists!!!!!!!!
Bruh this anime 😭😭
I really like her🥲
