Damn this video blew up. FYI the explanation I give on armoured moves here is a heavily paraphrased version of how it works (as it wasnt my intent to reiterate the same information). For a more detailed explanation on how it works, refer to my other videos on damage scaling. Edit: In hindsight. The shao/sektor kombo was probably a bad example of explaining the absense of shao's 50% armoured damage scaling on db3 as that kombo didnt actually involve the move being interrupted mid kombo. For the standard armoured move you dont need to interrupt an armoured move to get the 50% scaling (it will always have 50% scaling regardless, there is no way to bypass it). You however do have to interrupt a meterless/unarmoured grab-like move to get the 0% scaling, if you dont interrupt the move, you will instead get the standard damage scaling value which typically ranges between 15-20% depending on the specific move.
@@weed_houze yeah. I reported it months ago as well and it still hasnt been patched. It is probably very low on their priority. Either that or fixing that will break some other crucial part of the programming.
@@parmaunited another thing. Still to this day his f4 on hit makes Scorpion voiced grunts))) Day one bug. Also very early after release i managed to find Shao's future brutality description - b12 and hold 1.
@@weed_houze didnt know that lol. But yeah, all that stuff is probably considered low priority. Granted when i reported that issue i had just said that this shao kombo had inconsistent damage (as i didnt know what was causing the issue at the time). I doubt these things will ever get fixed so i guess it isnt a bug anymore, it is a feature now lol.
in the case of General shao's knee armor scaling, I believe it applies the 50% scaling only if shao is hit during the animation and then the combo is somehow extended
@@frogaroach I tested this as well. It still did 0% scaling even if shao is hit during the animation. Furthermore, technically you dont have to interupt the animation of the armoured move for it to apply 50% scaling (the interrupting property is only required for the meterless version to get that 0% scaling, but 50% scaling will be applied to an enhanced armoured move no matter what). What i said in this video is more paraphrasing on how it works as in the past i have explained this in more detail and didnt want to bore people with repeated info. You can prove that the 50% damage scaling would apply regardless of being interrupted or not, by looking at young shangs df2 which is an armoured move when enhanced but it will still apply 50% damage scaling despite there being no way to interupt the animation.
@@parmaunited weird, even in axeless form? I was playing liu kang and I got trade combod vs him and I seem to remember it scaling. Either way great info, thanks for sharing 👍
@@frogaroach i do think there is a legit reason for the lack of scaling. Shao has the only armoured move that can be combo'd off without the use of a kameo. Because technically you dont need to interrupt the animation for an enhanced armoured move to get that 50% scaling. It would mean that shao's db3 into df4 launcher would always apply 50% scaling (as you always have to enhance db3 to get the launcher which is an armoured move). This does seem pretty unfair as his kombo damage would be terrible, but as a result it deliberately breaks this exception which is fair enough imo. Based the logic provided in my other response to your comment. I think it might apply to the axless db3 as well. Will have to check. However there will be no case where the damage scaling is 0% cos it isnt a grab like move. As for the liu kang vs shao trade kombo. When i am referring to damage scaling, i am specifically only talking about his db3 not applying that 50% scaling like other armoured moves do. Any hit before or after that move in a kombo will still apply its usual scaling. Its just that enhanced db3 does not contribute 50% scaling like other armoured moves do.
Yeah, considering the viewership of this video, there is a slight chance that NRS saw this video and decided to add the standard damage scaling to him. My bad
the thing with shao's armor move is that it is a combo extender as well, so it acts as combo extender when shao was NOT HIT during his armor, and does 20% scaling in a combo. But when HIT, it does usual 50% scaling. Overall this move has 2 outcomes -> hit or no hit, when hit game interpretes this move as an armor, when no hit game interpretes this move as a combo starter/extender
@@joni9317 even on hit of armour used. Shao's damage scaling is 0% on interrupt (20% on no interrupt). It does not change based on whether the armour is used. But i do agree the damage scaling on his armoured move is deliberately different because it can extend kombos without the use of kameo. You can test in practice mode by doing db3 ex while you set the opponent to spam s1 (so you can get the armour hit through) and then get sektor's missile to hit mid animation. You will see that the sektor missile hit is doing 40 damage. If it was doing 50% damage scaling it would be doing 20
@@parmaunited you're right, I tested it and when shao got hit during armor and got iterrupted by kameo the scaling of an, in fact, armored move was 0%. I thought 50% scaling on armor if hit will be no matter what, interrupted by kameo or not. Turns out that's not the case
Has anyone been able to get more than 500 damage on a combo into fatal (no cameo) looking for something more optimal than DF1 B2 xDF4 stand 4 to Fatal.

I agree. I dont have any issue with shao breaking these damage scaling rules, I just thought it was useful to point out. That being said, it appears NRS has some problem with these. As of the kaos reigns patch, shao now does have the standard kommand grab scaling on his df2. So he did technically receive a nerf this patch
@@parmaunited yeah I was playing with him last night… Honestly, I wish he could switch back and forth from axe to throwing hands whenever instead of slamming his axe down and it having a timer. Like how Shang can switch to old boy to young man at will.
@@krazyknightmare7410 I reckon a nice little buff for him would be to be able to press down+left trigger and be able to freely switch between axe and axeless without any recovery frames (similar to how shang can morph from young to old). If they make that change, then df4 in axeless form would be redundant (as it currently is the input to grab the axe back). So it should so it instead reposition the axe to where shao is now (but you still stay in axeless form.
