A lot of old ones aren't in this conditions either. Electronics fail in time, and many examples of 90s Mercedes are very cheap to buy because they have broken or worn parts that have failed. This just happens to be an example of one that was very well kept, and likely will be the same for the new ones too. If you take care of a car, itll last

@Domepeezy thats BS. all that useless electric crap is far from being reliable. todays cars no matter what origin are nothing but a reliable source of income for manufacturers and stealerships. you will not see todays cars in 10 years. but you absolutely do see cars from the 90' and 30 years old today. some people cant seem to grasp the quality of everything went to shit over the past 20 years. or close their eyes facing the problem and act like they arent present because they cant see 'em.
Cars peaked in the 90s. Small work trucks were affordable and available. Full-size pickups were used as tools, not driven by them. Most everything was offered with a stick. European cars were elegant tanks. Japanese cars were basic transportation with a passionate tuning scene. The only cars that weren't awesome were the Americans, but even those were recovering from the Malaise Era. The Taurus was sexy and brought Ford back from the brink of bankruptcy. The '97 Malibu is a really cute car that I actually really want. The Chevy Lumina Z34 and Ford Probe were great answers to the Japanese cars. The C5 Corvette is beautiful, _and_ it had pop-ups. Probably the last American car to have them. And the 1st Gen Viper is probably one of the most extreme cars of its time. Like strapping a rocket to a wagon and calling it a racecar. My car is a 1997 Honda Prelude Type SH. The first year of the last generation. It has 257,000 miles. And with a little maintenance, that car will still be hitting VTEC in another 28 years. I hope I'm wrong about new cars, but I can't be confident they'll be running when they're pushing 30 years old. I probably sound like a cranky old dude, but they really don't make them like they used to.

The cars were made with great care and excellence, and it is no wonder that even today we find many examples in good condition even after so many years. The younger ones won't survive that long.
It’s so weird in the last 5 years I’ve stared to love older cars so much more than new ones. And I’m not talking about 1950-1980 cars I’m talking more like 1990-2010 😂
I think the older was better because you felt in luxury, you had items that no other car had where as today, you can buy a car for half the price of Mercedes and it looks very similar with similar features, you have to search through screens to find any new features in the Mercedes today.
Not going to lie but it’s easily noticeable to see how cheaply made Mercedes has gotten from just looking at it and I myself do like the gimmicky stuff but that I’d rather have the old model than the new one
The old only has a nostalgia factor, but the new is better. But i know people wont admit that because they prefer to stick to the past with fake memories lol
The 90s car era was the peak of the automotive industry in terms of quality, and the quality is a factor that first comes in mind when we compare two things. So the new mercedes has better features and better performances, better noise insulation, and more comfort, but the quality of the build is not better.
@philipgligorov5848 of course the start of anything will usually be it's peak and there's the highest demand, most competition and what not. But you can't say decades into the present that the older car is better. I'd take the newer Mercedes anytime of the week. I'd only take the older one out of style.
@xsillah3623 I think I didn'tunderstand the first few verses of your comment? Do you believe the start of the automotive industry was in the 90s? My father owned w115 300d, it had 990.000km on the clock when we sold it, and my father was making jokes that it is the second count on the clock of the car since he wasn't the first owner and the car was previously driven as a taxi vehicle in the capital of my country! My father, during his 15-year ownership of the car, never changed clutch, never changed the bushings on the control arms, and never changed the alternator pulley. He later had a w124, which was also a great car, and then, he bought a w210 and was left completely disappointed and never bought a mercedes again. I myself had a w210 220cdi, and I had many issues I didn't expect to have. Not that it was that bad, but comparing to the older benzes we had, those weren't even close. And that's normal, quality was very expensive even 20 years ago, but nowadays it's even more expensive. So I understand what car manufacturers face. It's hard to put an affordable price for a good quality product.
The new cars are safer in the event of a crash, but the audio equipment and the climate controls were easier to use in the older cars. Automotive engineers: when designing the control panel for a car, assume that the user is blind. That way, the driver can control it without taking their eyes off of the road.

Some cars in the 2000's had a similar thing going on with a multi CD player. My old Buick had it as an option along with cassette slots in the center.
