Nobody is ever going to sing it the same as the original. Reguardless of how it goes, Nobody has the same voice or style to do so. Who cares about " Who's version was better than who." Its about the message and what they feel they should illustrate it.
She is one of if not the most skilled under appreciated vocalists out there.

with my eyes opened i couldn't receive this; with them closed, made it a little more tolerable. not talking just about her, but any over singing or over doing anything "IS JUST THAT". in giving...do it with simplicity (Romans 12:8) then will God receive it because you did it as He instructed. she gave it, no doubt, but the choir was soft, sweet, and calm; the soloist was hard, screaming, and overwhelming, lacking, both, ability and humility to serve with her background, as the examples Christ did with his disciples. she and the choir just didn't go together, but both where good at what they did.

Phillip Williams I understand what you mean. Its a whole different feeling when you can feel it from the spirit and not just listening to someone sing well. I just listened to Kelly Price sing," For every mountain" by Kurt Carr. She didn't get every word perfect but you could feel her sing the song from the soul. I understand completely. I think Ledisi has an awesome voice but not for the purpose of this song.

You never know what battle scars lie beneath the service, you never know what someone has endured to get to this point in their lives. Ledisi did a magnificent job on an already great song... I can honestly say that I didn't care for her voice until this. I'm not a fan of hers, but she rocked this. We all have our own relationship with Christ. We are fools if we judge one another. That song meant something to her.
@hollyhoodjai...she was not singing 'live', and her knowing the family makes no difference. She may have been singing along with the song, but she was not LIVE. Live is YOU, not you and the track. She is a secular artist and had no business leading that song any more than Whitney Houston should. Her credentials/experience mean nothing to me. She can support by sitting in the audience with everyone else.

@TXejas19...many of them do not sing live. I've worked in the concert industry for years, so I'm pretty up on this matter. ;) Many live concerts are not 'live'. The audience is no indication as proof of 'her' live performance. Gospel music has drastically changed, and it's only getting worse. The fact of a secular artist singing at this funeral only proves my point. Her talent means nothing if she is simply out of order. Nice voice...wrong venue.

W/ the state that the world is in we need more who walk what they talk (or sing) & when they sing CHAINS BREAK!!! Some1 can't break chains if they're in them. Trust me, I hate it's like that too but the fact is her lifestyle & OTHER SONGS r CONTRARY to the Word of God. THAT'S TRUTH, not opinion!

I've seen her scatting to Etta, giving "Endless Love" a brand new meaning, giving Chaka on soul train a "HOW YOU DOIN" with her perf. and gospel, OMG..her with Kelly Price and this tribute..I omgawwwwwd..Oh and ..she even got on stage with Patti Labelle at Essence and shine like a neon light in a dark room..lol..this woman is WOW!! Her and Jennifer Hudson did great with this song, but yes..Ledisi..OMG.J-Hud..stunned me..Ledisi made my butt cry with this.lol

I love this song, and anyone who sees secular when they see this is clearly conflicted somewhere in their own lives. You never know whom God may use to bring others to the foot of the Cross. Clearly "prophets" are becoming more and more wolves in sheep's clothing. Jesus ran with sinners, his disciples were from different walks of life, and he still used them to reach others. For you to judge and act impossible to please when it comes to who's singing Gods word is distasteful.

If God can use a donkey, He can use anyone... I'm not comparing this gifted woman to a donkey or anything, I'm just saying that gifts are given without repentance and you don't know how this performance or woman has touched the people. If only one person was saved or touched from this video it is worth it. How many of us can say that we have used our gifts and moved at least one person?

Gift w/out repentance means God does not apologize for whom he's gifted,but we can't judge her walk w/God we dont sleep w/her at night and follow her around to know if she walks with God or not.When church ppl get saved & stop tryna judge and point & what's NOT holy instead of living it themselves in LOVE then the world may get saved but church ppl r in the way
