    actually, no, it's still running strong week after week, because 1: I oiled all the cylinders with straight 2 stroke when I compression tested it moments before this video, 2: the water level was above the pickup and water pump, and 3: water does too come out of those holes, but only when the thermostat opens up to let water circulate through the block. so 4: fuck you troll mind your own business and keep your bullshit comments to yourself

      Hey, I know this is an old video but i have a couple questions about this type of motor. I just bought my stepdads old Yazoo boat and it has an 85hp evinrude very close in year to this one. It hasn't been cranked in close to a year but he says once it does crank it runs perfect, we took his battery from his smaller boat motor but it was slow to turn over like your was at first. his battery has i think 650 CCA. everything else looks good so do you think i need a starting battery with more cold cranking amps to turn it over at first? If it helps, he also rebuilt it and put a 110 or 115 powerhead on it he said.

    Cool!....I've got the same boat, and engine. My trailer is a single axle not a tandem like yours.

    there was a new pump on the shelf in my garage waiting to go in, but regardless it was in plenty of water for it to not burn that one up...

      Hey the lower unit was not in enough he even videoed the port where the water is supposed to go in

    Definitely not deep enough. The water pump fit on top of the seam where the lower unit meets the mid section. The pump cant pick up water cause it is surrounded by air. People are just trying to help you.

      He's right Dude... You don't know shit...! Water intakes are down just above the prop shaft/gear housing on both sides of the lower unit...!

    ( those holes you are looking at aren't the inlet )

    "im gona put a water pump in it anyway" well its not the cheap water pump i would worry about! .... anyways,,, these motors any good??

      I'm not sure what you mean about the water pump, but yes they are great motors if you maintain them

      Tommy K i mean regardless if you going to put a water pump in it. thats the least of your worries. running them dry destroys bigger things then just water pumps. im thinking about getting a used one. .... kinda turned off of the old 4 stroke though. i have an old 2 stroke evinrude thats been great but i got a good offer for one that was "found " in a barn . doesnt run

    • @tcknapp1984
      @tcknapp1984  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't run it dry, why the fuck do people keep saying that ?

    • @milldabeast519
      @milldabeast519 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tommy K because its clear you have no clue what your doing. i didnt say you ran it dry. im saying your logic of ohhh its only the water pump.... nooo actually your damaging the motor IF anything not just the water pump. it wasnt run dry long enough to burn anything up. the motor runs dry every start up until system is primed. you guys said i dont think its deep enough in the water about 10 times in the video so thats probably why people are saying u ran it dry! duuuuuhhhh.....

    • @tcknapp1984
      @tcknapp1984  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I said it might need a water pump, but it didnt. It was plenty deep enough, nothing will burn up as long as the impeller is under water .... which it was. The only reason I said it might need a water pump is because I didn't realize at the time that these motors don't have a tell-tale , or "pisser" to let you know it's pumping. The only time water comes out other than through the prop is when the thermostats open, then it dumps water out those two holes.

    /watch?v=q-6ReNsvBog watch that video if you don't believe me, the inlet is not the holes you're looking at, but thanks for posting your uneducated bullshit comment
