- This is the second episode in the restoration of a 50s Geloso tube amp. It features two 6L6G's as power tubes, 5X4 or 5U4 rectifier tube, 12SL7s in the preamp and 6SN7 for the phase inverter. We change out a bunch of the very bad capacitors -- none of the caps in high voltage positions tested as acceptable. In order to avoid having to score 12SL7s on eBay, I sally out to rescue a late 40s Geloso specimen, almost getting lost in Limburg.

Hi, thanks for your video. I have a question and think you where the only one who can help. I have two Geloso G227a and both a Missing the Geloso Logo on the front of the grille. Do you know how to get that to complete restoration or can i buy from you ? Thanks

@@leonardotheys8937 hello, sorry for the very late answer. They are worth every penny i have bought. I use two G227A as my main stereo system with Celestion Ditton 25 Speakers and it is the best i have heard for a long time. Greetings from Germany!

Hi Saul, you should be able to date your amp by the model number and enclosure type. You should also look the web for the Bolletino Geloso, which was a quarterly publication by the company detailing their new models.
Basic rules of thumb: no 12AX7 type tubes? Then it's pre 1953. Selenium rectifier instead of tube: post 1963. Hope this helps!

@@saulsavarino7358 There is a 60s version as well, but if it's exactly like this one, it's 1954 or there abouts... Is it working?
These are very sensitive amps, so don't replace the original preamp tubes. Some other hobbyist reported that they only got them to work properly with the original type tubes (construction?) I should look this up. Check the comments of my other video about this amp...
