Data Networks Decades Before The Internet

  • The history of the Internet usually begins around 1966 when the ARPANET was funded, but data networking had been around for decades before that, and for most of that time message routing had been a labor intensive manual process, but in the 1950s, a decade before the ARPANET came on line, data networking was automated, and there were no computers involved in the process, but there were motors, gears, paper tape and relays everywhere.

    That was incredible, and that Star Wars opening made muy day. I was almost through the tape when I realized we had one of those paper tape message storage macxhines in the AWA muesum. But wait, there it was. Then and only then did I realize this was a 100% AWA museum production by< i'm guessing, Mark and Duncan. Mark, you should sell your voice over service to many needed TH-camr's and bloggers who need a very professional voice. You sound great. I'm very envious. Good job, guys. Ed Gable

    Postal routing 1:37 coincidentally I was surprised to see the pigeonholes marked with the cities in northern Cook County Illinois, looked like the N.W. R&R stops going to Chicago.
