Sad thing about this movie is that Justin Chatwin did a lot of research on Dragonball, reading all of the manga and watching so much of the anime at the time, even going so far as to read its inspiration “Journey to the West” only for all of it to be wasted on a movie like this.
Hopefully he'll redeem himself like the guy who played Piccolo

@@tusharrathore6330 I mean, they explained that Goku ascended to Godhood, achieving God Ki. During the fight with Beerus, he absorbed the god ki into his base body. So when he infused God Ki into the Super Saiyan transformation, you got Super Saiyan Blue. Super Saiyan Evolution was just Vegeta bulking up, like in Z but with SSB instead of SSJ. Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken was possible because of SSB granting better ki control than the normal Super Saiyan. Ultra Instinct Omen becomes accessed as a result of Goku absorbing Universe's 7 Spirit Bomb into his body, pushing him past his limitations. Then, over the entirety of the TOP, Goku keeps breaking through his limitations and fighting in the Ultra Instinct state, training it over time and eventually resulting in its mastered form.
@@heinrichpriest8937 turns out that is not the case, ultra instinct is master roshi's technique and he showed it to Goku when he go up against jrin in the super manga.
As for absorbing spirit bomb Goku already did that in super android 13 movie and didn't get ultra instinct there and we still don't know super Sayan rose work or royal blue super Sayan of Vegeta.
In the manga tournament of power is only 10 or 15 chapters and we also get to see op Gohan again from cell saga. Gohan defeat that female broly fusion alone (I don't remember her name) Piccolo and Goku even claimed that if Gohan started to use his Sayan power instead of his human power Gohan can easily leave Goku and Vegeta behind in terms of power with few weeks of training.
None of that is in the Anime

Super saiyan rose is just zamasu version of blue and is exclusive to him because he's a kai, don't bring a non-cannon movie as evidence that doesn't work
Also the guy just explained vegeta's blue evolution, it's literally the super saiyan grade 2 from the cell saga but as a ssj blue
Toyotaro fucked manga version of gohan in the tournament, anime gohan was way better developed, also ultimate>ssj that's the whole point, gohan beats kefla while in the anime he tag teams with piccolo and actually shows his development which is abscent from the manga, also cell saga gohan is not a compliment, thats was a one time thing that only worked on that certain occasion and wouldn't work any other time because that's not who gohan is

I remember when this movie came out in 2009, I was so angry. I thought I was going super saiyan; ten years later... that feeling came back after I saw this review.
At least Evolution gave us Super as a result. And you know full well that reviewing this movie means you'll have to look at the Netflix Death Note now.
If Stephen Chow directed and have full control of Dragonball: Evolution, this movie will be a success I think. The studio hired a wrong director for this one.

Dragon Ball: Evolution would’ve been a lot better without this story. I think it would be somewhat improved if it was about old Goku teaching a new student about whatever power things they have, and focus on the student’s journey before they eventually go Super Saiyan or something and laser a villain to death. It wouldn’t be a GOOD Dragonball story, but it would be a better story

There was no reason for Goku to take the Dragon Ball except the plot wanted it to be. There was no reason for him to even go to Chi-Chi's in secret.
Justin Chatwin (the actor for Goku) actually read the Entirety of Dragon Ball, Z and Kai to prepare him for this role, only for him to portray a Goku that is not even close to the Manga at all.

Ive never seen anything dragon ball in my life
Me, I've read a little bit of the manga at the start (more exactly, the volume 10, 14, 15 and 16. I've them at home).. Then I've see this movie... And see more and more of Dragon Ball on the Internet (I've also play at some of the games)! Now, I know Dragon Ball very well! I only notice the film because it was "18 years old Goku VS Piccolo" like in the second part of the Piccolo arc (I've see the arc from the second half of the Goku VS Piccolo fight before the time-skip to the climax of the final battle at the 23rd martial arts world tournament) and also that Chichi was Goku's love... And that Bulma is kinda of a near friend of goku (sometimes, I consider her has his godmother).
It's like an parent trying to connect with their kid but getting the plot all wrong

Lesson learned to directors and writers, who're never been a fan of any anime they're trying to make a live action version, animes stories are not meant to be ruined. Always think of the fans would feel, cause most of these directors and writers are there for the sake of money and not the story. Well I doubt they learned their lessons though.
