      It really is. They say before 5 years old is when a child's personality and understanding of their relationships really take root, after that it takes a lot of work to undo any negative or false teachings. Get the important stuff down in the beginning, especially as soon as they're able to have actual, back and forth conversations with you. My kid never had terrible twos, she was a total three-nager though, as soon as she turned 3. Just attitude galore, questioning everything I said, doing the opposite of what I said, ignoring me. Just testing her boundaries and figuring out the dynamics of our family. It was a straight 9 months of conversations, consequences, positive reinforcement, with tantrums in between. She's about to be 4 and that girl is an angel. She has her moments, but she's so polite, she's so sweet, loving, considerate, most of all, she trusts me. She understands now why I say no because I've showed her. Oddly enough, my husband didn't have that same dynamic. She pretty much listened to him from day one lol. Maybe it's the bass in his voice 😂

    In front of the kids, you don’t contradict your spouse’s discipline. Agree beforehand what acceptable punishments are, and if you have issues, talk about it privately. And don’t undermine them. My kids knew, if i said it, their dad would back me up, if he said it, I’d back him up. We now have freaking awesome kids that are super fun to be around.

    • @inhaledexhaled5460

      But i think its also something they need to see.. kids need to know they can speak up for themselves against something that the authority figure may not agree with and that itll all be solved maturely and logically. Also that two authority figures can solve things between them maturely. I cant tell you how many times ive seen two managers go at each other. I think at some point the child needs to learn that, not first though

    • @pinkapotamus9266
      @pinkapotamus9266 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@inhaledexhaled5460 That’s for disagreements at my house. I was speaking about discipline like when they do something they were told not to. A rule we had was no hitting. Not in play, not in anger- we don’t. So if one of them got mad and hit/smacked/slapped their sibling, they had to sit in time out, and then tell us why they were mad enough to hit (so we could tell if the sibling was being a brat) and apologize to the sibling. Everyone needs to learn how to control themselves. I agree with you that you do need to learn how to resolve arguments and disagreements by seeing your parents work through them as well.

    • @Caroline_Shane
      @Caroline_Shane 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@faithfirstfitnessThat doesn't make any sense. The kids will know that they cannot pin the parents against each other because the parents will always be in agreement.

    • @LinkOfLegendOfZelda
      @LinkOfLegendOfZelda 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Caroline_ShaneI think they meant it as in the situation parents don't agree with each other about when the kid should be timed out or not. Kids are very smart from a young age. They see and hear a lot and learn pretty quickly. When they see their parents argue if the kid needs a time out or not (in other words, a consequence or not), they know that they have an opportunity to turn this situation in their favor and put their parents against each other on the spot. And when they know they can, they will try that again and again. And that's something you do not want, because then they learn how to escape consequences instead of facing them.

    Always act as a united front in front of your children. Even if you dont agree with your partner, have those conversations in private. The second your kid knows you disagree on punishments, they will use that to their advantage. They'll purposely avoid the stricter parent and manipulate situations, and it will cause resentment in your marriage

    It’s important for parents to show a unified front. Even if you don’t agree, discuss it later away from the kid. (OBVIOUSLY if you feel the other parent is being abusive and you need to protect your kid, intervene. But OBVIOUSLY if you’re with someone who abuses your kid, fucking leave. If it’s a daily or weekly occurrence where you’re undermining the other parent, either you’re choosing to stay with an abusive person, or it’s not that serious and can be addressed LATER.)

    3 to 4 really seems to be the age where you need to set clear boundaries of acceptable behavior and discipline or else your kids will run wild and it’ll be much more difficult to correct their behavior later.

    Delete TH-cam off the TV app and phone. Parental locks with passwords or give the kid a locked tablet. Each app requires a parental code

  • @kayekaye6111
    @kayekaye6111 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you start watching out for these things and disciplining before 4.5 then you can say “You may not turn on TH-cam” and TH-cam doesn’t end up getting turned on in the first place cause that boundary has already been set.

    I don’t think I can look at Josh the same after his last sentence 😂 but true. I used to let my kids watch TH-cam but I found out that many kid contents were truly disgusting. Then kids TH-cam. Even that is questionable. Now I’m just trying hard not to let them on it. It’s difficult because we want to love our kids and when they cry, we feel bad. But I’m learning more that saying no is the biggest form of love.
