Hi Jack. Thanks for your feedback. Syzygy is (amongst other things) an astronomical term relating to two heavenly bodies moving in harmony. [from the Greek - yolk, as in in yolking pair of cattle)
One of the first tunes I learned and I love it, but It really doesn't sound like Carolan's style. From a note on the session.org: "There seems no other historical attribution of "Blind Mary" to Carolan. O’Sullivan goes on to comment that "but for Forde’s high authority we should hardly be justified in including this tune, for it is very unlike Carolan in style". ...To my ear it has a completely different feel (is that a mixed metaphor?) to any of his other melodies. Maybe he wrote it as a tribute to the Harper Maire Dhall, in her style?"
He played the same way each pass. Poor form!! And what's with all the head movement?? I wish he had dropped out and let her play alone. She at least improvised on, and added to, the melody.
