Prepare for a deep dive into one of the most contentious events in recent church history on this episode of "The Worship & Nonsense Podcast." 🎙️🔥 Join Sam and the team as they unpack the explosive happenings at the James River Church's Stronger Men’s Conference, featuring a polarizing performance that spiraled into a major theological and personal conflict.
The episode kicks off with Sam introducing his wife Jamie, setting a lighter tone with their humorous love story before steering into more turbulent waters. 🌊💑
The duo then critiques some of the latest hits in Christian music, examining lyrics that stir controversy and provoke thought, particularly focusing on theological accuracy and the messages conveyed in worship songs.
The highlight of this episode, however, centers around the dramatic incidents involving Pastor Mark Driscoll and Pastor John Lindell at the James River Church's conference. Listen as we dissect Pastor Lindell's accusations of demonic influence against Driscoll, who in turn criticized a performance at the conference he labeled as promoting the "Jezebel spirit." This conflict reached its peak when Lindell publicly called Driscoll to repentance, citing a severe breakdown in brotherly relations and sowing discord within the community. 🛐⚔️
Further, explore the intense aftermath, including how the local and national church communities reacted, the impact on church staff, and the broader implications for church leadership and accountability. We delve into the Matthew 18 protocol for conflict resolution, discussing how it was-and wasn't-applied in this scenario.
Wrapping up, the podcast doesn't shy away from the heated debate over idolization in Christian music, ignited by a preview of a new song by Brandon Lake on TikTok. This sparks one of the most intense discussions in the podcast's history, reflecting on the fine line between admiration and idolatry in Christian worship. 🎤👀
This episode is not just a recount of events but a reflective look at how personal failings, theological disagreements, and public accountability play out in the modern church setting, promising insights, reflections, and, as always, a bit of nonsense.
🎶 Closing the episode, we play "Abandoned (Live)" by Benjamin William Hastings and Brandon Lake, encouraging our listeners to seek out the full experience on platforms like Spotify, especially given the song’s contentious blocking issues.
This episode of "The Worship & Nonsense Podcast" offers a unique blend of personal storytelling, musical critique, and a detailed examination of a church controversy that captivated the Christian community. It's a journey through the complexities of faith, leadership, and the power of media in shaping religious narratives.

For context, John Lindell apologized for INVITING Mark Driscoll and Alex to participate in the conference, not for anything else.

To include both Alex and Mark in his apology is no apology. He simply listed the two men who he lied about publicly.

@@Winterstonecalling That's the point. He didn't apologize for anything or to anyone. He acted like the invitation to Mark Driscoll was a bad decision and, in hindsight, Alex as well, when it truth, it was choosing entertainment over godliness, which is a common thing with him and these conferences, full of worldly entertainment. and sprinkled with godly moments.

EXACTLY right! He is too Proud to apologize for the ungodly inappropriate
      opening "Sword Licking" Act.
All John did was apologize for inviting both of them which was "no apology"for the opening act.

I don’t know how I came across this podcast but I’ve got so many strong feelings about this and am WAY too invested in this. 😂 I have to say.. this entire drama is SO AG. 😂
FIRST: Did you know that they ran that Matthew 18 debacle of an angry sermon as a SPONSORED video on TH-cam?
2nd: did you know the majority of comments were negative and the unpaid social media intern (just a hunch) at JRC spent day and night going in every 20 minutes and hid the comments that did not absolutely worship Lindell as a fantastic pastor or call Driscoll the devil. 😈 that is.. until they wiped the video from every platform.
Also.. didn’t Lindell call Driscoll a prophet of our generation and warned people against questioning God’s anointed? But then he dropped a bomb on him.. personally.. the abusive and authoritarian nature of not questioning leaders that God has placed in authority over you probably needs to come to an end.. but it feels rather hypocritical for him to then blow up Mark Driscoll with private text messages and then hide all of the comments questioning his decision to do it.
Lastly, the sword swallower says he was not a stripper.. he was a Gogo dancer and there’s nothing wrong with that. If you want to move up in Hollywood and not sleep with people like Harvey Weinstein.. then you gotta GOGO do some Gogo dancing!! 😂
Ok. I’m done. I gotta let it go.. BUT IM SO BOTHERED. 😂

I agree. I am bothered also. I don't know Mark at all, but even his texts, if correct, I agree with. John Liddell should step down. If his son Brandon chose the act, he does have problems. I think Mark is very bothered by all this too (understatement). As key note speaker, he had to say something. If he didn't, he is complicit. I have never been to JRC, but I have heard bad things. My emotions ran from embarrassed, to hurt and then mad because of the reflection on the Church.

Actually the dancer is a stripper he was known to work at the top rated gay strip club in LA and he also stripped in a club in Vegas. Full nude performances were common in his routine. This is from His own pages.
Brandon Lindell found him as a performer (how does a pastor find a gay stripper for hire?). Brandon Lindell also watched the act rehearse and approved it to go on stage as an approved performance. Brandon is a liar as well. He pushes the toes lie and pushed the video filled with lies from his father. Brandon also oozes a gay male persona. He always looks like he’s trying to be a male cheerleader and acts incredibly feminine at all times. This is why mark say John and Brandon are hiding secrets.
This is also why John got pissed off that mark called out the borderline gay performance that his son approved of. He knew immediately that Brandon would be shamed out of the pastoring position if it was found out. So ya. John is a false teacher by proxy and lazy shepherd. Brandon is a liar and lazy shepherd. David is a false teacher and lazy shepherd and honestly he isn’t a pastor at all. He’s like smiling Joel, a motivational speaker that mentions God sometimes

    • @chrisbashline2318
      @chrisbashline2318 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, the info that has come out is just proof that Driscoll was guided by the Holy Spirit. A former male stripper hasn’t repented if he still rips his shirt off for money. Then Lindell tries to manipulate the body of Christ into expelling Driscoll from the church. Witchcraft! Call it Jezebel whatever, it’s repugnant. He was embarrassed publicly and he upped the ante even though Driscoll was very humble that night, way more humble than you’d normally see him. You can tell Driscoll was trying very hard to not dishonor John. The act was public, John paraded Driscoll back out in public and then the “prayer” meeting unscriptural church manipulation…all public. Meanwhile Driscoll got two minutes and since then has just reposted the teachings he’s known for. I spent a solid week in prayer throughout the day bc the reaction to this was mixed. IT WAS MIXED. The line between high quality ministry that captures ppls imagination and sinful entertainment has been blurred. The deception is rampant and God is calling HIS church out of those situations and into the truth.

It was shocking that John flew in a pole Performer from LA where just last year two male pole performers at the LA Dodgers Pride Night used a Cross for a pole, one man dressed like Jesus while the other one pole danced on top of the cross. This went viral and also the Sister of Perpetual Indulgence went vial. Many Christians were still upset over this without having John flying a male Pole preformer in from LA!!!!😮 ☹️

So the couple is saying that the only people deserving of making a living on singing is someone that sings secular music? So someone that has a career in Christian music can’t make a living with it? It’s not about worshipping the singer. They are just making a living in their career. They are just Christian.

I agree with the couple, when it comes to music. We are getting closer and closer to the world’s music and we are supposed to be separated from the world. You look at Larry Norman who is a Christian rockstar, he said “why should the devil have all the good music? “ that should say enough about Christian Rock.

I like the Christian music of the 70’s and 80’s before it started changing.
Keith Green died in a plane crash back in 1982 and they had Last Days Ministries. His music touched a lot of peoples life. He was serious about his music and lyrics. His songs had convictions in them.
Rich Mullins died sometime later and his music touched a lot of lives.
The songs back then were just different. It’s hard to explain what I mean by that.
I do appreciate hymns and sometimes I miss them in church.
