Special Relativity also brought about the concept of time dilation, where time slows down for an observer in motion relative to a stationary one. Similarly, length contraction shows that objects moving at significant fractions of the speed of light appear shorter along the direction of motion. These effects, though imperceptible at everyday speeds, become significant at velocities close to the speed of light and have been experimentally confirmed using atomic clocks and high-energy particle accelerators. The theory has profound implications for our understanding of the universe, influencing everything from GPS satellite technology, which accounts for time dilation, to cosmological models that examine the behavior of light and matter at high speeds. Special Relativity also paved the way for General Relativity, Einstein’s theory of gravity, which expanded the understanding of space-time to include acceleration and gravity. In summary, Special Relativity fundamentally altered our perception of space, time, and energy, challenging classical notions and enabling advances in technology and theoretical physics.
Thank you so much Brian Greene for doing so much for us. While we have no access to good quality education, your work is helping us through. Please cover general relativity topic too, I am excited to learn it from you.

Loved when he was explaining where gamma should go, and how physicists just think should it be bigger or smaller? I have been doing this a lot and wasn't sure how everybody else would do it. Special relativity and physics always gives me the feeling that we can attain speeds near the speed of light without having to deal with mass and friction and whatsoever from the classic physics because I feel just like how there is time dilation, there will be space dilation as well, and using that we can fly at higher speeds relative to the observer, but not relative to the source, thus the physical forces won't really matter. This is IMO directly related to expansion of the universe.

It's infact the hardest topic in Physics.
It's all fun and games till Brian talks about black holes, but once he gets into the math
@@maxwellsequation4887 i know it's hard that's why I requested him 😔
Loads of love backatcha, India! :)
@@maxwellsequation4887 Bro,without getting into maths I think that no one is there in the world who will be able to understand any topic of physics with satisfaction.
Watch prof. Susskind lecture series on classical mech., Quantum, special relativity and general relativity
Have Ph.D Physics from UCLA 1973, but never learned special relativity. This is fantastic!
Who on earth could dislike such an admirable endeavour. Many thanks WSU and Mr. Greene for this gem!
Wow! What a wealth of information on TH-cam for free! I've bookmarked this video and will keep coming back to it. This is like an entire course worth of content!
Thank you Brian! Thank you WSF. This was beautiful!
Amazing course,i think brian greene is one the best expleineers on physics in the entire world,i'd like a course of general relativity or quantum mechanics
FANTASTIC UPLOAD - For all of the bad publicity social media/Internet gets in dumbing down people ( and partially justifiably so ), we also have wonderful resources like this, which educate and inform us in an entertaining and easily understood way. Thoroughly enjoyable👍👍👏

"Time dilation is one of the most counterintuitive concepts you will ever encounter."
Quantum Mechanics:
"Hold my Quarks."
I actually find Special Relativity weirder, because the basic idea is so easy to explain and the maths are so straightforward. At least squares of amplitudes and wavefunction collapse have the decency to LOOK complicated.
IMHO there is correlation between reverse causality and a lot of weirdness in relativity.
I took offyour 70th like lol
Quantum mechanics:
Hold my particles (or waves)
@@johnwinward2421 how would you explain special and general relativity respectively in a couple of sentences?
Wow, what an incredible presenter Brian Greene is! Even though I'm in my 60's, I'm reliving my love of physics because of his skills in presenting this information so well. The concepts are understandable enough that even the layperson can grasp and appreciate them. This is gold, especially for those who want to know how the universe operates!
I am so grateful for this. Truly using the age of information sharing. Thank you.
It was an awesome experience to learn from such a great physicist Dr.Brian Greene. This lecture is like a treasure for those who are physics enthusiasts. The way he explained the things through animations & graphs made us learn the things to bones. I have even made the notes of his lecture as I wanted to get all the things into my mind and didn't want to leave any piece of information. Thanks a lot sir Brian Greene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙂
This is amazing. Currently taking 2nd year Modern Physics and this helps a lot. Is there a possibility for an Electromagnetism course?...
I was wondering if you could explain the equation (at 3:14:40) to me. I don't understand it anymore from V^2 (1yr)^2 = 10^18 (1-(V/C)^2) and I saw that you are studing Physics so maybe you could tell me (maybe it is stupid that I do not understand the equation but I never had a lot of Physics at my school)
I couldn't learn these many things in my entire semester about Modern physics than what I learned in this video. Thanks Brian.
Thank you for your hard work sir
Brain Greene is a great teacher. The interactive graphics and visualizations are fantastic. This kind of material is how tax dollars should be spent.
Thank you.
This is a most generous video
Thank u!!!
Mr. Greene, you have a natural gift for making the difficult seem simple. Thank you for this gift! I am a better person because of this program. Your students are extremely fortunate.
Eagerly waiting FOR THE VIDEO LIKE THESE ON🔥🔥 GENERAL RELATIVITY 🔥🔥😊
