  • In this video, we are making tubing! It really isn't that difficult to make and being able to create your own will expand your repertoire of skills! You'll want to know how to make your own tubing if you make hinges, create tube rivets, make clasps and locking mechanisms, create end caps, make tube settings, and a variety of other things. Being able to custom make your own tubing will make you a more knowledgable and resourceful jeweler!
    Finding the right size and thickness of tubing can be a daunting task, especially when you are trying to find telescoping tubing for hinges. Make your own quickly, save some dinero AND always have plenty on hand.I cover tube creation, tools used (and how to use them), shrinking tubing, and as a bonus, enlarging tubing. All in under 50 minutes! Amazing. So, come on in and learn something new today.

    Love your videos Nancy, I learn a lot and and you put a much needed smile on my face. I worked for a jeweler that made his own tool just like the one you made, I remember pulling many a piece of wire and tubing through that thing, it was a beast but it worked and did the job, homemade thingamajigys and refashioned tools are sometimes the best. looking forward to your next video and checking out yours when it's done.

    Lots of Fun while not just learning techniques, but how the process could go for you. Very down to earth and straight forward.
    In fact, I think the most important lesson is that, even when things don't necessarily go to plan, don't let it get to you. Learn and carry on. Thanks so much Nancy.

    When I made my sterling tube from sheet, I didn't have that swage block thingie, so I took my sheet, & an unused drill bit (my improvised mandrel) and laid it on the sheet over the top of a vice I had opened up just a little larger than the size of the drill bit and hammered it all down into the gap between the two sides of the vise. I was surprised that it worked... that being said, I think I will look to making one of those swage blocks for future projects. 😂 Thank you for the lesson! You rock! 😃

      I think I need to try the vise method. I have 2 pieces that I need an odd sized tubing for but I don't want to run out and buy new tools until I am sure I need them.

    I was going to say the draw plate needs to lock in, or the bench could have 90 degree angled add ins. If the draw plates had a little more blank space on each end, it wouldn't be necessary, unless of course, like you say, they ping out and wipe out the jeweller before they finish the piece.

    swaping out that hoop foor a triangle ring would help alot.. on youre draw bench.. or since you'rs had a hook.. a square ring.. you gt the idea you want an angle whre the toongs are to kep tension on the jaws so it wont slip off lik that.

    @nancy Hamilton Nancy, I am looking to give my 999 silver cable link chain a brushed Finish to dim it a bit and give it some texture. I'll be using a dremel, I'm gonna use a non woven scouring pad attachment could you recommend an ideal grit for the brushed look? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @NancyHamiltonJewelry
      @NancyHamiltonJewelry  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you talking about my draw bench aluminum (what it's constructed from) or the draw plate itself? The draw bench came with its aluminum U bar and the draw plates are steel. Most jewelry suppliers carry them. Thanks!

    I remember using a wire draw plate for the first time at jewellery school. We were told how to stand and many still were flying across the room as the wire was releasing from the hole. lol

    I've been watching a number of videos that require annealing copper and have seen large bowl like things filled with some sort of pebbles that is used when you anneal. I cannot seem to find what these are called in order to search for them. I do see the charcoal blocks on your list but was looking for something a bit larger and more contained. Can lead me in the right direction? Many thanks- love your videos.
