I love the "White Angel" shot, not just aesthetically, but having a ZS-80* I'm just surprised the shutter response was sufficiently quick to get her framed just so.
It reminds me of a shot I worked on when I worked in a pro lab that a local Montreal photographer, Valerie Simmons, won a major Hasselblad award with, back in the early 90's.
      Very nice.
*[ I think your TZ-80 was called the ZS-70 here in N.A. and is one development below the "80" we have ]

What this re-inforces to us is that the camera is not important - a photographer's post-editing software skills are the key.
I already knew this, but your video proved me correct.

Honestly, all of the pics turned out great! I'm a sucker for skylines, but I'm not quite sure how I feel about the ship. And getting the perfect moment with the girl in the white dress centered in the wings was outstanding!
I have a ZS200 and will often take it out in my pocket as a "just in case" camera when I don't feel like taking a larger camera.

My "main" camera is the Lumix S5 and some expensive lenses. I also have this TZ80. Despite the f8 minimum aperture, this camera really does "kick above its weight" in terms of the actual features (too many to mention, so check online). I would suspect that most viewers of the many TH-cam channels dedicated to photography are not professional and, like this presenter, rarely have prints made. This camera is more than capable of producing good results and I do wonder about the need for me lugging around all my other camera gear.

That view from the other side of the river overlooking Liverpool Waterfront, is spectacular. Jerry rigging the ND filter really enhanced the shot.
I bet that if you mixed some edited images of your compact camera with your GH6 and possibly S5ii, I doubt many would spot the difference, especially if you did not mention the shots were taken on different cameras.

Based on the prices of compacts skyrocketing, especially those like the G10, G11, and G12 Powershots and others that are CCD based sensors, I'd say the trend has been up for compacts. I collect advanced compacts, both small and large sensor, but have put that on a bit of a hold with how cameras that might have cost me 80 bucks a year or two ago are now 150-250 in worse condition.

I recently bought a Lumix zs200/tz200 and it's now my favorite camera ever, for now anyway. 😂 I'm not a pro and I never print anything but it's convenient and easy to carry. It does the zoom and macro very well. It has all the options and manual controls the mirrorless models have. I have an addiction to shooting and need to shoot hundreds of photos everyday. Most of which are out doors so the maximum 3.3 aperture is not so bad. Mostly perfect for street. I was looking to get an 80 as a backup but after this video the prices will probably rise. Thanks 😊Please never make a video about the 100 or 200. I would like to buy backups before the price goes up LOL

Love the wings, the perfect subject captured at the perfect point. When skill and luck coincide magic happens. I don’t have a point and shoot but I have started using a low mileage Olympus E-P3 with a non functional IBIS and the two body cap lenses for street photography. The results are a technical mess but have character. I am not a professional so I can leave my higher end gear for the occasional important shoot and just play with these toys.

Hey Emily, you wanted input so here it is, even if a year late: I think you did great with the camera you decided to use, but I am sure that the results would’ve been better if you used your OM-1 instead with any lens of your choice. As for the project itself, I enjoyed watching you have fun with the water on the first tile that you played with, and I found the process of your work very satisfying from my perspective as an amateur. I suspect that it’s a cultural thing that comes into play with the other two tiles, but I think that first one was brilliant and could stand on its own. Thanks for reading my opinion.

Love this style of video Emily, I considered the TZ80 at one point but went with the GX880 and 12-32 /35-100 as my pocket camera for a bit more IQ. My daughter has the TZ100 which is excellent, not quite the zoom range of the TZ80 but a much larger 1" sensor and a bargain when compared with similar spec Sony RX100 models. The blurred photo of the woman in the white outfit and the angel wings was etherial and divine! 😄

    Interesting! 😃👍
I purchased the TZ-101 a few years ago. It has a 1"-sensor. The advantage compared with a 1/2.3"-sensor is from my point of view that small light sources in night shots aren't "sprayed" out by the reflection from lens to lens on the sensor.
(Un)fortunately smartphones are getting better and better (Currently I'm using a Samsung S22 Ultra.) so that my camera catches dust most of the time in the corner. 😥
I'm having a polarizer in my camera bag for getting nice shots of clouds. But currently I'm using the camera mostly for night shots with a tripod. The smartphone is always in my pocket anyway. And Samsung Gallery and Lightroom for Android are available for free. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve had a Lumix TZ90. Insane zoom. That was fun Terrible quality. ISO 200 looks mushy. Anything above iso 400 becomes useless. I don’t miss it one bit.
The advertorial demands from Saal become obvious. When looking at James with his iPhone in Italy and now this, I guess the message probably was ‘regardless the camera, we can print decent prints’. I do like Saal btw. Their 30x40 is insanely low priced and prints on Fujifilm photo paper.

I think superzooms are a massive hole in the current market. Not much has happened in that space for quite a while due to smartphones consuming much of the low end camera market but I wish someone would try again. Given we all have smartphones in our pockets, and they can reasonably handle wide angle through to 5x or 10x, a camera manufacturer should release an updated version of this type of camera that just skips the first 200mm. That saving with provide some combination of size, weight and cost savings, improved sharpness, wider apertures and/or longer reach.

Recently I had my main body die on me while out on a photo walk, but luckily I had my little Lumix TZ110 in my pocket, bit of creative angles and I got some great shots and the day was saved!
Such a capable camera, amazing lens, and it’s got IBIS! Blows my mind.

It’s very different to how I would do photography. I like to leave the pictures as close to straight out of the camera as possible, and use manufacturer picture profiles. And crop a bit if I need to. But it’s cool to see how differently you can do it. Everyone’s got their own way and that’s an awesome thing about photography. And I like that you can just hold the filter over the compact camera and it still works fine. I like the reflected one and the landscape a lot. Again, I probably would have just kept the one with the sharp buildings and discarded the other. But your composite does look really good.

Thanks so much! Yes I totally agree it’s why I love photography so much - there’s no right and wrong, just expression ☺️

Another great video, I have the Lumix ZS60 (TZ80), got it refurbished from Amazon 3 or so years ago and love using it. Only wish it had tilt screen but it is still awesome. When I am out an about with just point and shoot cameras, I take this and my recently acquired G7XMii, less zoom and larger sensor. I wanted either a LX10 or LX100 but could not afford them and found the G7X for a great price.

Super video. What fun. Does show that the kit is not always the key to better photos. I often take my Sony RX100 VII on holidays and street shoots because of the flexibility.

Great content once again. I love my compacts from the Ricoh GX200, Olympus XZ-1, Canon S series (4 of them) all produce lovely images. Then there's the RX100 III and most recently the Canon G9X II. I love them for the portability and quality especially the G9X II. Superb touch screen, speed and IQ in a tiny package that fits in jeans pocket. Of course they don't offer the same speed and IQ as my MFT gear but it's essential to always have a camera to hand and I love compact pocket rockets for that reason.

This video was a treat! It brought back warm memories of my first small M43 set-up, which was Panasonic GF-1 with the 20mm pancake lens. I've since sold it and moved on to the G9, but I am desperate to get something small again for street shooting.

I picked up the lumix lf1 and tz60 recently and I find I'm carrying them more than my other cameras now that the sun is out. I was very lucky to get both under £50. I'm sure with the digi cam trend prices will shoot up.

I wish they would release one last refresh with USB-C. Still using a Sony DSC-HX50V, but the buttons are slowly wearing out. Power and shutter are still fine, but manual control is getting hard.

Just seeing this video. This is so cool, Emily! I love all the images - so beautiful to see them printed too! First of all, it's courageous given the cheap camera. Secondly, ingenious to add the filter that way! I would not have thought of it. Great images too! This reminds me a little of some of my GM-1 limitations and wondering if I'm just not thinking out of the box enough. You've inspired me! Cheers!
