Steve Spagnuolo told Albert Breer unprompted "Brock is really good. we had to change our entire defense at half time because he was identifying our coverages and ripping apart our zones." spags is a top 5 DC in the NFL and Purdy had him on his back foot the entire first half. its even more impressive because they were throwing the same concepts at Purdy that Mike MacDonold bamboozled purdy with on Christmas. I am not a 49er fan, but people keep forgetting that Purdy is only a 2nd yr player. if he is THE QB, he will get better. He's currently still better than half the QBs in the league.
After next year that roster is gonna be a shell of what it is now so they better figure it out quick. Once he's not getting paid 750k they have some seriously difficult decisions to make. Can't keep paying All-Pros in funny money forever
@@connorhendrickson You largely can if you draft well, & they draft non-QBs well. They'll be scary next season, even more so than this season, & then beyond that they'll very likely find ways to stay in contention every year...they've now got the most important piece of all, the elite franchise QB.
Thank you so much for this...I've left similar comments on other videos....had his team helped him just a tiny bit, he'd have the SB MVP & his heroics are all anyone would be talking about, but....ya....his team shat the bed while he was the most poised player on the entire field all game long. This hurts, a lot, but the future just couldn't be any brighter.
Because in OT getting 3 and leaving Mahomes, 4 downs to operate was never a recipe of winning. As soon as they got 3, anyone with a sane thought knew KC was winning.
In 75 minutes of football the greatest quarterback of all time managed to put up 3 more points than Purdy. And that included the 49ers fumbling the ball in FG range, the kicker missing an extra point and the 49ers fumbling a punt return at their own, what was it, 11 yard line? Purdy twice put his team in a winning position but the 49ers defense couldn’t stop Mahomes. We keep hearing how good Allen and Lamar are but they both lost to Mahomes on their home field in regulation time. Mahomes needed OT to defeat Purdy. I think they are kidding themselves if they think 46 year old Brady is beating Mahomes. Brady lost to Nick Foles so he is not infallible. If Mahomes is the GOAT going toe to toe with him in a Super Bowl and only losing in OT deserves a lot more respect than it appears Purdy will ever get.
I agree with this statement to some extent. This was always going to be a game decided by the defense. Purdy looked amazing last year and was just injured at the wrong time. Last year's 49ers never got the chance to shine. This year our defense was golden and held the 49ers offense as best as we could. The fact that Purdy was two unlucky calls from winning should give him even more respect. He's not Mr. Irrelevant anymore. He's Brock Purdy and should get that respect. He has a bright future.
Joe Montana played immaculate football in the championship when the stakes were the highest won every game can be said he never hurt his team by throwing an interception yet all the knuckleheads keep calling Pat Mahomes the goat despite the evidence Mahomes lost when the stakes were the highest and has countless interceptions you can stay in your echo chamber with all the others but that doesn't make what comes out of the echo chambers factual
At this point of his career; 25 games, Simms had completed 297 passes for 3117 yds (58%) 12 TDs and 18 INTs for a 69 rating. Brock at 23 games has 492 completions for 5654 yds(68%) 44 TDs and 15 INTs for a 111 rating.
Right, but nobody was rushing to include Simms in elite QB conversations. If you want to include Brock in those conversations, this is what they look like. Burrow, Allen, Lamar, and Mahomes all go through it.
@@Manofmystery273 wait what SB did Burrow allen or Lamar win? Shoot did Mahomes even make a SB in his second year? Nope was beat by Brady in the championship game. Get real. I dont care if you call Purdy Elite or not, but you cannot use this as an agrument against him and not against other players.
Even with all the "shoulda coulda woulda" moments, for me this drive should have been the game. Kill time, kick a game winning field goal. But for some reason, they did not drain the clock. I recall there was a play where they snapped the ball with about 20 seconds on the play clock. Even with that, on the final sequence CMC gets 5 yards on 1st down and I'm getting excited thinking "just run the ball two more times, maybe even 3 more times to get another first down, make KC use their TO, kill more time, kick a FG and game over". Maybe at worst KC has 30 seconds left but with no TO. But Shanahan inexplicably passes on 2nd down, gets 0 yards, and then has to pass on 3rd down, incomplete pass, clock stops, Mahomes has plenty of time, even almost won the game in regulation. FML
I'm a Seahawks fan and I think brock purdy played better then mahomes and barley lost to one of the greatest web of our time. He did all that in his 2nd year as a full starter! Dude balled out and his defense let him down.
All Brock had to do was flip Christian and his route to the left side, he could have chipped the corner blitzing and run into the flat ... now you have a crosser, outside slant, and Christian all within sight and they are easy throws with the corner being chipped. Nothing else on the play needed to be changed. It would be interesting to know if that was a miss by Purdy, or if Kyle (and the offensive scheme) didn't allow him to make that adjustment.
You can rip apart any singular play all you want & say "well why didn't he do that?"....Mahomes was stopped & made big mistakes on plenty of singular plays, but his team around him blocked better & played better after the 1st half than Purdy's did for him, & that was the difference. I did think Mahomes' running was a difference maker, but only because the 9ers had poor defense schemes there...they were certainly out-coached late, but they were not out-QB'd. Purdy played the more poised game vs. Mahomes, & would have been MVP had he gotten some level of help from his team, like Mahomes did. I'm gutted as a 49ers fan, but I'm also super excited about a bright future with our barely 24yo fell-from-the-sky franchise/elite QB.
Don't get this "15 in red would've done this or done that". Chiefs won due to the defense. And the "15 in red" threw an interception and couldn've move the ball much until the niners fumbled on the punt return. Niners lost the game, rather than the chiefs won the game, but Purdy is not the one to be blamed. It's sick to see these people talking about him this way.
Look at 9:18. There was no lane as 32 had his hands in the air and would have knocked down the pass attempt as well. Honestly don't see him completing that regardless of his choice. Maybe Mahomes completes it but that is far from a given. Mahomes made solid but not spectacular plays during the game but he didn't not have to face 9-10 unblocked rushers during the course of the game like Purdy did. That Chiefs defense is pretty special.
Had an All-Pro RB (basically a RB/WR), All-Pro FB, All-Pro WR, All-Pro TE, and an All-Pro LT...this will end up being the best chance Purdy had at getting a ring and its unfortunate since it was so early in his career; but most guys play a lifetime without the opportunity to play on a roster like they had this year.
lol I love when people talk about Trent Williams. Buddy, we know he’s a hall of famer but that doesn’t change the fact that the niners pass rush online was ranked in the bottom 5 all year. Purdy is the best processor in the league, get him a solid o line and he doesn’t need to have super stars. His super stars didn’t show up to play on Sunday as it is. They were locked up for 3 straight quarters. Purdy will be back. He’s gonna have his first full offseason and the kid is very coachable and humble and will only get better
The issue is that everybody on offense played even worse than him in the Super Bowl, and he is the least experienced of them all. Aiyuk had an average game. Deebo and Kittle were AWFUL. Especially Deebo! If you watch the all 22, you will see that Deebo doesn't get a decent separation in ANY play. Kittle was a ghost. McCaffrey had a good receiving game, but was mediocre at best running the ball, and also had a fumble in the redzone. The O-Line was bad all year. Having the best O-Lineman in the league and putting alongside him 4 traffic cones trying to play football is pointless. The O-Line works as an organism. It is not like the WR position, in which if you have 2 bad players and 1 outstanding one, the play can still work if you get the ball in the hands of that outstanding receiver. On the O-Line, if you have 3 or 4 players playing flawless, but 1 or 2 screw up, your offense isn't going to produce positive plays.
@@matheussoares1548 also TW was the reason our 2nd drive of the game failed. He had a false start and then a holding penalty. All of these so called "Avengers" were not game changers what so ever. Our 3rd WR Jennings is the only other player who played like he wanted it. He was playing lights out.

They did that on the play before and stuff CMC. I am a huge fan of CMC, but that had to be a pass play and the Right guard missed putting a hand on the best inside pass rusher in the league. Purdy would have hit JJ or AB if he had a half a second longer to throw.
@@bossdj1856 I went back to look at the play by play and CMC ran for 5 yards on the first down and there was an incomplete on 2nd down which is why it was 3rd and 5. I would’ve still ran the ball if you were just going to go for the field goal any way and you see a blitz coming.
Funny hearing Chris talk now. Don't get me wrong pretty good analylist but I remember watching him play at Texas in in NFl so its funny hearing him say what a QB shoukd do 😂
That's a weak take. There are plenty of analysts and coaches in all sports who NEVER played at a high level, but are GREAT at their jobs. Tony Romo as an analyst (maybe not great per se, but a much better analyst than he was a QB. Bill Bellichick and Greg Popovich also come to mind.
so why is Kittle in the backfield blocking when he is usually on the line blocking? should Purdy have flipped Kittle to other side to pick up that blitz?
The one thing I get tired hearing is how Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson or Matthew Stafford would be unstoppable if they were the 49ners quarterback. They neglect to mention they could not pay these guys if they were quarterbacks on the niners then they couldn't pay all the talented offensive stars. Pundits can measure height, speed and arm strength but measuring reading defenses is much harder. Pundits point out that Purdy can't run like Josh or Lamar but always forget to mention they are running many times cause they can't read defenses like Purdy and have to run when he doesn't.
Shanahan has to wear this like the bone-head calls the Detroit Coach made at the Championship Game! He was completley out-coached by Spagnola and abandoned the Run game in the 4rd quarter.

If the Niners pick up the first down on this play. They kick a field goal to take the lead leaving only 22 seconds (or less) and no timeouts for the Chiefs..
I didn't understand why they didn't give the ball to CMC to run it on that 3rd & 4. Even if he only got 2 yards, they could have run at least 45 seconds off the clock before kicking the FG, or, at least made the Chiefs burn one of their last two timeouts.
Y’all should just watch JT O’Sullivans QB school break does the best and most honest breakdown. Every “analyst” or show host should do the same before taking a dumb take
On the 3rd-and-5 in regulation, JG hits Aiyuk there for the first down. Now, he doesn’t make the play that Purdy did in OT to flip it to CMC for the long gain down the sideline, but if you win in regulation, no need for OT.
Could you argue that the line slid the wrong way? Could you also argue that George missed his block playing RB? Purdy definitely should've thrown it to BA, but if the protection is better, I think he puts a better ball on BA
I'd also argue that BA and Deebo has been losing all day, JJ and CM were the only ones getting open. I think if I'm Purdy, I'd lose faith in the two WRs
Ummm am I taking crazy pills or did Brock say the read is inside out but JJ is the hot? Therefore, he threw to the correct hot read but said he wished that he ignored the rule.
Frickin analysts who don’t analyze ALL the situational attributes and their presumable outcomes. So focused on scapegoating Brock Purdy for a single play..when he was brilliant in several others. Hold my beer. McDuffey lined up in man on Ayuk pre-snap. Purdy looked left first and Ayuk is covered at the line. He looks right just before the snap and that’s when McDuffey moves into a blitzing position, uncovering Ayuk in Purdy’s blind spot. His blitz angle intersected his line of sight to the route Ayuk takes as a result. Not to mention that although the safety is 10 deep in coverage, a break on Ayuk’s route isn’t uncommon..a bait used effectively against QBs of all experience. Marlon Jackson on Tom Brady in AFC champ game to send Colts to SB 41. Disguised coverage. Did Brady catch this hell for that mistake? Hell. No. Gimme back my beer. Let’s talk NFL’s irresistible chance to orchestrate an improbable..otherwise impossible..Chiefs win for a shot at gaining 200 million new fans, known as Swifties, the majority of whom have had no previous interest in pro football. Brock had a pretty good game, considering especially how early in his career this was… but yeah this big moment called for proper execution and he fell short this time. Gotta get back to work.
A great coach should prepare 4 downs for 10 yards (not 3 down). If 49rd coach told B.P you have 2 downs for 4 yards...then the game is very much over. SF has one of the best running back...running 4 yards is not a problem. S is a good coach but not a great coach. As long as Mahomes is actively quarterback, SF will be beaten again again and again if they meet.
Watching the game back, there was definitely too many fumbled passes, and missed opportunities to get the ball to his tight end, Kittle. I do believe he was way too hesitant making touch downs and big plays…. There were times it was thrown to McCaffery and it shouldn’t half he e been. BUT I do think he did a really good job being only a second year quarterback and 23 playing in the freaking Super Bowl. Only better from this point. ❤
BP and the whole team could've been better. Fact is, they had a chance to win in regulation and overtime but didn't get it done. To beat Mahomes led Chiefs in a big game you have to put the game out of reach, which they could've if they played mistake free and disciplined.
Brock had a 75 QBR against the blitz, higher than his QBR overall.. examining one play against the blitz and not looking at all of them in totality, then making a broad-sweeping statement that the difference in this game was Brock doesn't respond well to the blitz yet.. is really selective analysis/thinking..
Please people. The niners were clearly the better team and should have won. It’s about executing. They didn’t execute. That’s all. It happens in every close game. The niners would have won easily. They just stepped on their feet. It happens. Brock is a second year quarterback who led his team to the Super Bowl. He led the league in pretty much every category. He’s a great quarterback. The narrative would be totally different if the niners won. The kid admitted his mistake. That’s admirable. Everyone makes mistakes. There’s more to life than a football game. ROMAN CIRCUS. The niners were clearly the better team. They lost. Enough said 🙏🏼
Great QB make great plays. He's good but you got to win the Superbowls. The only expectation is Dilfer,McMahon,Simms and Theisman who had great defenses.
Purdy will improve. he will learn and get even better. Purdy will be in the top 5 QB's and will be perfectly good enough to take 49ers to the SB again.
Purdy led his team on 3 straight scoring drives in the 4th QTR and OT which gave the Niners the lead all 3 times. In the two 3rd down and 4 plays the Niners offense lineman blew the coverage and let Chris Jones and another Chief rush Purdy unblocked!! If the O-Line blocked Chris jones for 1 second, Brock throws the TD in OT. If the O-Line pick up the blitz on 3rd and 4 in regulation, the Niners run out the clock and win. Those were not on Brock Purdy. Purdy went toe to toe with Mahomes, who needed a muffed punt, missed extra point, and Greenlaw injury to win.
I’m a long time Niner fan. Was the failure to pick up the blitz just an offensive line problem? Or is it more offensive playcalling problem? We’re just Purdy missing the read?
The better question is why when it 2nd and 5. Why didn’t they run the ball. Run the ball and take time off the clock. They could have easily gotten a first down with 2 runs .
What are you talking about? There is going to be very little change next season. We're won't lose a single star, probably 3 technical starters who we have replacements for and, tbf a bunch of good role players on the dline. Juan Jennings is gone, Bell steps in. Gipson is gone but because Brown is taking his job opposite Huff. We'll change our slot DB just because we didn't have one that was any good. Hopefully we can resign Ferrel but LE is a mystery. probably going to need a new OLB and also someone to fill in for Greenlaw till he's ready. We pretty much ONLY have our DLine starters returning, so there's a lot of work there. But that's losing a lot less pieces than any SB team I can remember.
IMO he probably thought that mcduffie was bluffing, and going to drop back into that space in front of aiyuk. In that case, he's thinking they were running a zone inside with mcduffie droping back and the safety coming down and then 1-1 man outside on Jauan. He never thought they'd actually leave BA open, given he's been his favorite target all year on big downs. and that's why spags is a genius. Did the one thing purdy never actually thought he'd do. This is all just my guess of course... but i think it's what happenned
@@fastydave hes achieved a lot without having an off season. The loss isn't on him. KC had numerous fumbles and recovered them all. Special teams and Kyle are responsible for the loss. Purdy is more than good.

Florio acting like he knows anything about the x's & o's is downright hilarious. Of course, given more time or a better angle to see McDuffie coming, he makes a different choice. But, that's the point of bringing a zero blitz. You force the protection and the QB to be perfect and, even if they are perfect, the receiver still has to make the play.
Brock Purdue managed the game well. Unfortunately you need more than that to win the superbowl. I saw many plays from Mahomes that were wowing. None from Purdue, I saw him play live few months ago, same thing. The team got them there not the quarterback play.
BA was the hot on the 3rd &4. Purdy chose poorly. He made the righ decision in not throwing to CMC, but he should have just made a simple throw to BA in that situation for the 1st down to seal the game.
These two idiots missed the most important thing about the whole play the offensive line slid the wrong way. If they slide away from the back the blitz is picked up
It sucks that they could not get that first down but even if they did the game was not over. I know Chris likes to say it would have been because he is a Shanahan homer but if that pass connected the Niners would have most likely ran the ball 3 times to kill clock and the Chiefs 2 time outs. Following the FG, Mahomes would have had 25-30 secs to move the ball 30-35 yards for a FG to tie. With the way our defence was playing soft coverage I feel he would have picked up those yards to tie anyways.
Poor analysis. BA is not uncovered pre-snap on the 3rd and 4. Humphrey isnt in man coverage, but if he doesn’t blitz, he is in perfect position (within a step or two) to intercept/break up the pass to BA.
Look at these clowns covering for shanahan. Not one full video criticizing his play call. Brock didnt play amazing but he played well enough to win but they’re not gonna burn their buddy kyle like that.
3rd and 4, 2mins left. I would have ran JP Mason and push the pile, force Chiefs to take a timeout. Chiefs were gassed, fresh legs Mason could have gotten good yardage making it 4th and short. And then go on 4th as well. I would not trust the FG Kicker.
Brock Purdy he just been has QUARTERBACK why you all hating on Brock purdy. You should never gave Tge QUARTERBACK mvp because he didn't deserve but Brock Purdy perseverance the mvp
It always amazes me how these talking heads have all the answers to everything. If ya'll are so smart, why aren't you head coaches in the NFL? I know you need to fill all this time with your gobbledygook, but telling a kid that's 2 years into his NFL career that he didn't do good enough, when it's a TEAM game, and he wasn't the one who muffed a punt, nor was he the one that gave up a game tying field goal and a game winning TD is assinine. I understand that Simms was a QB in the league, but that means he should understand how hard it is as a 2nd year QB is, let alone playing in the biggest game in the world. How about we give the players their due instead of always criticizing? It's not just these 2, it's the majority of the talking heads that think they know everything. Rant over.
Better defense and OL back then. Favorable matchups in the playoffs allowed them to hide Garoppolo through the playoffs. Do you think they could’ve gone to the SB this year with the Garoppolo formula? Remember he threw 8 passes in the 2019 NFCCG
I would of ran a sweep to the right , yeah Kyle didn't have a play to get those 4 yards to win the game. KC knew how big this play was and Kyle uses just a regular play. Wow! 😮😅 The more I analyze this the more I blame Kyle. This is where with a great OL u stop that blitz to get those 4 yards and end the game.
SF lost because of the weakest link all season. The OL. They couldn't protect long enough. They couldn't create running lanes. Even Trent killed a drive with 2 consecutive penalties. Mahomes will make you pay if you give him the chance.
Brock Purdy going forward will look at the films and learn from it. Kyle Shanahan on the other hand no so much. 49ers need to make QB coach Brian Griese as the new HC. He was the one who told Purdy about the OT rules, yet the rest of the 49ers players doesn’t know squad, that’s on the HC. Heard Shanahan never practiced 2 min drill. What type of HC doesn’t practice 2 min drills.
Brock was sacked once in the game. Mahomes was on his back many times, sacked as well. Brock is creative, shifty, tenacious and fast. He can throw weird throws - #22 was in BPs lane on this throw. Too fast, too close to attempt touch pass there. i think going to JJ was "safer"
Guys the moral of the story is never, ever, take football advice from Florio. Are you kidding me?? He’s the last guy I would ever refer to for X’s and O’s he doesn’t know shit but that’s not even the worst part. The worst part is that he has somehow convinced himself that he is a gifted football mind which is comical. Literally he couldn’t even tell you what defense any given team is running, even though he’s been a “football analyst” for 20 years
Give Brock a break.. geez. He played well. He literally had 1/2 a second to decide on that 3 n 4 play. He'll learn that needs to be a boom-boom play. Yes, it hurts. oh boy it hurts. But Brock played his heart out. They all did.
With the game on the line, when it mattered most, Mahomes stepped up and delivered a game-winning TD drive, whereas Purdy couldn’t execute with pressure on him and his team settled for a FG. That’s what you call Purdy out-playing Mahomes? Do you normally talk like this without thinking?
Did you just say you were complimenting your partner because you are jet lagged? How about because he said something smart and not because you are jet lagged. Wtf
This play is well down the list of critical plays. The over analyzing of this distorts the reality of what happened and what is possible to happen. Off the top of my head, I can think of at least 4 other key plays that are far more worthy pivot points that decided the game. As a neutral fan, I thought Purdy played well and was clearly better than Mahomes most of the game. The MVP is farce of an award. Clearly it had to go to a defensive player as there were no standout offensive players on either team. Both defenses outplayed the offenses in a classic defensive contest.

I am not a 49er fan, but people keep forgetting that Purdy is only a 2nd yr player. if he is THE QB, he will get better. He's currently still better than half the QBs in the league.
He’s never had an off-season with the #1’s either, and he lead the NFL in nearly everything this season in his first full years
After next year that roster is gonna be a shell of what it is now so they better figure it out quick. Once he's not getting paid 750k they have some seriously difficult decisions to make. Can't keep paying All-Pros in funny money forever

Why no talk about the fact that Purdy got them two leads at the final 2 minutes and overtime And the defense could not get a stop on either
Exactly!!! Brock literally got the lead late 4th and in OT, Niners just needed to stop the Chiefs just once
Exactly! Purdy walked off the field in both regulation and OT with the lead. He did what he had to do.
TDs>FGs.
Montana is the goat

Right, but nobody was rushing to include Simms in elite QB conversations. If you want to include Brock in those conversations, this is what they look like. Burrow, Allen, Lamar, and Mahomes all go through it.

FML
Chris had an excellent analysis!! Need nore!!!
I'm gutted as a 49ers fan, but I'm also super excited about a bright future with our barely 24yo fell-from-the-sky franchise/elite QB.
analysis is accurate. Purdy recognizing he missed that means he's going to learn and get better next year.
Purdy sucks
Look at 9:18. There was no lane as 32 had his hands in the air and would have knocked down the pass attempt as well. Honestly don't see him completing that regardless of his choice. Maybe Mahomes completes it but that is far from a given. Mahomes made solid but not spectacular plays during the game but he didn't not have to face 9-10 unblocked rushers during the course of the game like Purdy did. That Chiefs defense is pretty special.
Or maybe the referees don't call holds against the chiefs?😂 Even so, the niners should have won that game if it weren't for the dumb coach they have.
3rd and 4....Brock could been in the center and (fake hand out) rolled outside to run to get the 1st down.
...and you set that up by using pass/run option plays (and QB Draws) throughout specially if D Backs are playing "sticky".

Pundits can measure height, speed and arm strength but measuring reading defenses is much harder. Pundits point out that Purdy can't run like Josh or Lamar but always forget to mention they are running many times cause they can't read defenses like Purdy and have to run when he doesn't.

Could you argue that the line slid the wrong way? Could you also argue that George missed his block playing RB? Purdy definitely should've thrown it to BA, but if the protection is better, I think he puts a better ball on BA

Give me a break. The pass protection was messed up on these plays as well. Sims ain’t making these plays either. And the blitz was timed perfectly.
Watching the game back, there was definitely too many fumbled passes, and missed opportunities to get the ball to his tight end, Kittle. I do believe he was way too hesitant making touch downs and big plays…. There were times it was thrown to McCaffery and it shouldn’t half he e been.

Not with Shan. He’s a choker.
Imo it’s on Shanahan because he kept dialing up play for Deebo.

This is what kills me about these guys... There's no one "rule" I don't think aiyuks first read was to the slot...
every QB ever will tell you what the read is. stop it
9:36 They say SF was expecting a blitz.....oh yeah??? Well, KC blitzed 40% of the time the entire game lol
He can’t be compared to Mahome. You’re talking about a second year player recovering from elbow surgery.
extend Purdy for 40M+ now
Should have got Brady. This San Fran team has been the best team in football for 5 years or more. Time to get rid of Shannahan and Lynch!
