Please keep posting videos, most kids make youtube videos these days just for money. They look up how to do everything online and throw some well edited, skim-over video together. People like you need more views, you know what your talking about and have much more educational value to offer. Thank you sir, very much.
Quadcopters for engineers! Thanks for presenting subject from a deeper technical perspective. You've cleared up several questions I've had. Was getting tired of the content provided on TH-cam by "drone bros" who clearly don't understand much of what they are presenting.
Thank you for making this video. I'm planning to build a cheap drone that can carry a good camera to film aerial footage for my cycling channel. This sure helps.
Very professional video - I'm downloading the rest of the series to keep as a reference I'd like to see a new batch of videos on building a hexacopter - I think they may be superior to quadcopters
Hello, I am new to building a drone or even owning a drone. I enjoyed you video and am going to watch the rest of the series this coming week. My sole purpose in learning how to build and fly a drone is for surf fishing. After watching your video I can now see myself expanding the use of a drone in my daily activities. Since my primary use will be taking my bait out further than I can cast the drone needs to be able to carry 3-5 lbs. 3-5 lbs. is a lot for a rig. I want the drone to be able to carry 100% more than the rig I am using because of the wind normally found at the beach. I believe that I will need the extra power to fight the wind. I will need to watch this video a few more times before I commit to purchasing the different parts I will need. I am considering making the frame out of wood since I already work with wood. Sorry for rambling on, it is well past my time to hit the hay.
I want build some cheap drone with 3-4 km long range. I have not expirience with this joob. Hao mutch coast me that drone and where can i find some video steap by steap
I am new to drones and really appreciate your video. I plan to watch the others also. I just have a few questions. 1. About how much will the drone you are building cost? 2. What is the maximum distance from home can it travel. 3. How high can it go. Thank you Bruce Landfather
For a cost estimate I recommend looking for a components kit that has most of the parts you need, and you may find a better deal on a bundle than buying the parts separately. Usually the kits don't include a radio but almost any R/C radio should work and my radio was under $100.
Thank You So Much. I need your help. I built EVTOL that can take me up but I stopped at the point of choosing the type of motors suitable for the project. Pls enlighten me a little bit.
I used the online calculator at www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.php to help in selecting the various electrical components and to predict how those choices would affect performance.
I enjoyed your video.. very informative. I'm in the process of picking out all the components for my project. I plan on going with the least expensive components possible for this first build, just in case I make any mistakes ( fry the components) thanks for the video like I said very helpful.
Quite-impressive (Occam & his razor would be proud of you); I have an out-of-the-box question: It would seem that a smartphone & a flight controller has just abouts the same sensors. Soooooooooooo a geeky retired physicist with to much too on his hands just might code apis/apps & emulate a flight controller just for the fun of it. Pls let me know what do you thinks, thks.
Hey sorry it took so long to get back to you. A smartphone would surely have enough capability to make a decent flight controller, but it would take extra hardware to interface it to motor controllers. And weight would be a concern as well, maybe not significant for a larger drone though. It would have the very significant advantage that if the drone crashed, it could phone for help. In fact some kind of phone capability (not necessarily an entire smartphone) could be quite useful.
Great video! I have a question though. For the ESC is there a problem having a 35A instead of the 18A you had in your video? Or is it the higher the better?
There is no one 'right' answer to your question, but rather many options with different tradeoffs of performance, flight time, cost and so on. Here is the online drone calculator that I used - it lets you enter your drone parameters and calculate the effects of different motors, ESCs, batteries etc. The free version is quite usable, and the (cheap) paid version gives you more options. ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.php
So my question is this. I was planning on buying the shell an already existing drone (like a mini Mavic or similar) and just adding the components that I wanted into it. would that work? and how would I calculate the size of the motor etc needed as the motors size used in the oe drones aren't listed.?
Hi,. is it possible to build a drone like this that is computerised and will allow its instructions to be applied through ,,,maybe a uhb port, so that the drone will fly through and execute a list of instructions while flying outside of its wireless range and then return to base. Iam thinking about building an eight motor version, that has a high carrying load capacity. Also where can i get the components for this, can you recommend any types.
If you search for "open-source drone autopilot software" you'll find several options out there, but I have not personally used them. I also don't have a specific recommendation of 8-motor controller hardware but the more common ones only handle quadcopters so that will quickly narrow down your search.
I have a question about a parrot bebop 1. I have one but it lacks on flight time. Is it possible to upgrade to a better battery? If so what battery should I use? It currently has a 11.1v 1600mah. Thanks in advance
It's good enough for me, but a larger frame would be better if you want to carry a heavier payload such as a large camera. If you follow the link I put in the video description there's some more info on my website, including a link to the xcopterCalc site that helps calculate the flight parameters of a drone based on frame size etc.
I'm not sure where you are located, but I got most of my parts from Amazon. There are some drone kits that bundle together most of the parts and that may be a better deal than buying them individually.
Hello sir, I have also made one quadcopter. But could you pls tell me which flight controller is the best one which would make my quad such stable that it does move away even when wind is blowing.
I made it myself, but sorry I won't be showing folks how to make dynamite on TH-cam anytime soon! :-) Actually it's just a prop I made from a hollow tube wrapped in paper so not nearly as exciting as it might appear, but I did make it roughly the size of a real stick of dynamite for comparison.
I don't know what is available in Suriname but I bought most of these components from amazon.com, hobbyking.com and eBay so perhaps one of those will work for you.
Hi, I admire this type of content and I want to congratulate you for doing it. I wanted to ask you a favor, I am a fan of fishing with drones and based on my needs, (my phantom 3 is already quite old and asking to retire), I want to build a drone that can easily lift 1-3lbs and use the necessary amount of 18650 battery packs, 2 or 4 4s made by me. Could you advise me on a prototype based on your experience? In case you can help me, I could send you my email or wpp. Thank you so much!
I don't have experience with higher lifting capacity drones, but here is an online xcopter calculator that I used for my drone design and you may find it useful for your applications: www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.php
Your balance between simplicity and detail in conveying knowledge is amazing.
I've watched over a hundred drone build and review vids and none of them explained with as much detail and knowledge as this one. This is great.

For calculating X-copter performance including lifting power, battery life etc. I recommend the xcopterCalc application: ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.php
@@BrainRight Thank you, I will use that site.
Excellent Video. Really appreciate the eCalc website. On to Part 2
Subscribed within the first 5 mins. Love the channel!

Great video! I have a question though. For the ESC is there a problem having a 35A instead of the 18A you had in your video? Or is it the higher the better?
The ESC is like a switch, so having one rated for higher current than necessary won't hurt the motor; it would just add a little more weight and cost.
what motors and ESC need bui i plan build big drone dimension about 500-800mm and can carry camera, gimbal, or water 10 liter.

can u tell me how did you make that mini drone, like what parts have you used to build it....pls reply soon.I will be waiting for you.

I was planning on buying the shell an already existing drone (like a mini Mavic or similar) and just adding the components that I wanted into it. would that work? and how would I calculate the size of the motor etc needed as the motors size used in the oe drones aren't listed.?
Most people use 4 ESC, for each motor one. But there are 4 in 1 ESC. Is there a big different or why use only so less people the 4in1 version?
1.21 Gigawatts... Great Scott!
Amazing, thank you :)

Are you available for private consultation? I have an incomplete build that I would like finished professionally. Your videos are wonderful!
Exclent explanation!
May you or someone here explain me more about the last graph? I couldn´t understand it 100%. Thankss
Sir ,which kv's motor will be best for F450 frame..
Pls Reply I need to build one
3D Printed Frames doesnt matter if they are small (like 100mm)
So did you say you needed 2 motors? I though you would need 4 motors for 4 propeller
From where we can buy this piece for a drone?
Hello sir
Does this drone has an altitude hold and can it perform flips?
Please tell...
hi I used EMAX XA2212/980KV brushless motor ,f450 drone what setting of PID can use
I didn't do any PID adjustments with the flight controller software that I used; I just worked with the default settings and it performed adequately.
Thanks for the links
Great job! Thnx for your effort!

I have a question about a parrot bebop 1. I have one but it lacks on flight time. Is it possible to upgrade to a better battery? If so what battery should I use? It currently has a 11.1v 1600mah. Thanks in advance
Hi,is it advisable for a beginner to build a larger one like 500 diagonal?
It's not much different to build a larger one, but a smaller one is cheaper to build and to repair if you crash it.
How much did it cost for this whole project?
Sir please tell me if I want to lift 2kg weight which types of motor & battery is to be used??
I worked out my design using the quadcopter calculator at www.ecalc.ch/, and you might find that helpful.
Is it okay if i use 7A speed controller answer ne fast please.
Please I am a student in Ghana and I want you to help me to make drone in other to use it to quickly quench fire on top tall building
Sorry but that is beyond my area of expertise. It sounds like you have a challenging application since you would need to carry a heavy payload.
What is the name of the flight controllers?
WHAT WILL BE THE TOTAL COST
Is an F450 100 gms frame good enough?
It's good enough for me, but a larger frame would be better if you want to carry a heavier payload such as a large camera. If you follow the link I put in the video description there's some more info on my website, including a link to the xcopterCalc site that helps calculate the flight parameters of a drone based on frame size etc.

Why do you have dynamite
Hi Jay, is it okay if i email you... i need to discuss am import stuff with you.
