    Attention Xiaomi fans: as soon as they sell a phone in North America that's optimized for US networks I'll be able to test it. Until then, I'm afraid I'll have to leave that brand to other reviewers.

    honestly a lot of people are throwing away their money on these 800-1000 buck smart phones. The 400 bucks phones offer 90% of those expensive phones saving you quite some money

      @telecaster-freechannel9405 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The thing is, people see Samsung and Apple phones as status products. Like, they see you holding a phone with an apple on the back and they immediately think you are a well-off person or some shit like that.

      Same analogy with cars and watches. It really just depend on whether you view a certain item as a tool or a luxury item.

    Just talking about looks alone, the Moto X4 looks gorgeous from the back. I still prefer the old wood-backed Moto X of old, but it's still quite the looker amongst the three ^^ Granted if we're including the honorable mentions, I'd consider the Essential Phone too! Again, these are just based on looks alone, I think Moto and Essential did a good job at making their phones attractive ^_^

    • @savva_

      TechPassion the essential phone is a bit more expensive than the phones here

      I'd like it if Motorola made the X4 a more rugged device. (Similar to the S8 Active with lesser end specs) I'd happily buy one if it weren't a glass sandwich.

    • @NeXMaX
      @NeXMaX 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Moto X4 is definitely a looker.
      Too bad it'll likely be covered up in a case as with a lot of glass phones...

    • @Root174
      @Root174 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      D13H4RD2L1V3 True, I'd use a case simply to protect the camera (hump) and a wallet case can often be used as a video stand.

      Pretty much all phones are made in China now. Where do you think iPhone is manufactured?
      But, yeah, lots more quality options with low prices in other brands. Tho many of his subscribers prolly want local customer service and also see branding as most important.

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Sapien Agreed good brand nonrecognition can go a long way in instilling trust in people when they spend a good bit of their money on something, and if something goes wrong you are more likely to get help in getting it fixed. For example I had a US launch week version for the Motorola Moto G2 that had a bad charge circuit causing the phone to be stuck in a bootloop without a hard power off, and after about an hour or so on the phone, and online with Motorola customer service then after getting a shipping label and envelop 2 days later I was able to send my phone off via Fedex and have them cross ship me a new phone within the week, and my $100 security deposit was refunded 24 hrs later after they received my old phone. I could be wrong, but that's not something I think one of the smaller homegrown Chinese brands would have done.

    I traded in my LG V20 for a moto x4. I'm overall happy about it. I like the smaller form factor and the phone looks much better. The camera on the moto x4 was better than I expected. The battery life has been really great. No charging during the day anymore like I had to with my V20. But the real seller for me on the moto x4 over other unlocked phones was the fact that it works on Verizon. HD voice and all.

  • @halo5634
    @halo5634 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Looks like the Moto X4 is the better one. Design aesthetics of the honor look outdated and X4's camera does fine enough in comparison to the 7X. And btw I bought my Moto G5 Plus thanks to your review and never been happier. Keep up the great work, Michael :)

    Do you think it's better to buy a 2016 flagship (e.g. Galaxy S7 edge) over a 2017 midrange (e.g. Moto X4)? The price is same.

    The Moto X4 was actually my first intended smartphone of choice before I settled with the Moto Z Play around early December. It was pretty much a slightly more powerful Moto Z Play with water resistance, a dual camera, and a nicer looking glass build. Problem is I'm not digging the LCD panel and would much prefer AMOLED.

    No recommendation in buying used on Swappa? What's wrong with buying a used GS7, Google Pixel or a One Plus 5, 3T, 3?

  • @Krystalmyth
    @Krystalmyth 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought a ZTE Axon 7 for 220 bucks on Swappa with original box, perfect all around, not a scratch. Faster than my HTC 10 even when it was new. SD820, 64GB + MicroSD, 4GB Ram, 5.6" Amoled, loud front firing stereo speakers with bass, headphone jack with hi powered DAC, came with ear buds, a case, and even though it's used still has its original warranty for the next 14 months (came with a two year warranty new.) with accidental damage covered in the warranty. I'm in catharsis with this phone. It's a pleasure to own.

    Best budget smartphone right now is the Samsung galaxy S7. You won't find a better phone for under $250.. SD card slot, Snapdragon 820, one of the best cameras even by todays standards, IP68, great screen quality, premium build quality, wireless charging, headphone jack, etc...
    Name a better phone for the price

      Under $200 if used. You can find a brand new one for around $250-$275 if you look hard enough.. I bought a second hand one for $199.99 including shipping around last summer and it came in 10/10 condition. No cracks, no scuffs, no scratches, no broken hardware features, no chipped paint or nothing.

      It's a great feature I've enjoyed on my Moto phones for years, but if you have a wallet case like myself on the G4, and my current G5 plus you have to flip the case open for it to work, because the light sensor thinks it in a pocket/bag/purse/wherever , and the feature won't work otherwise so that's something to be noted which is both good, and bad.

    Don't know about the US but here in Germany the price of the HTC U Ultra has dropped to around 280€ish, so basically Honor 7X price range but has way, way more to offer for the price. For the 750€ that it cost in the beginning, it was hard to justify the purchase of that phone but at this price range now, it's probably the best bang for your buck.

  • @BobTheWhiteBoy

    Hmm if you're a student, OnePlus has a 10% off student discount. That makes the 5T $450 and their prices INCLUDE tax, at least in the U.S. Considering that the Moto X4 is $400 plus tax, it will get very close to the price of the 5T. Just a thought for any applicable students thinking of getting the Moto X4

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cautare pvp Most people either don't want too bother with Rooting, or are not technically minded enough to know about rooting a phone, or how to root their phone, and experiment with different ROMS. I'm going from the prospective of the average person, which again gets lost here by a lot of people because they think because they know all about this, and that tech wise, so everyone else should too!!! Nope I've worked retail many times over the years, and you would be surprised the dumb shit people ask when asking what's the best cell for me like does it make phone calls, or is the camera going to make me look fabulous(dead serious questions I've gotten among many other stupid ones). Those people have no business of even thinking about rooting an Android phone. So yes my statement is valid. Also if you want to go from a technical users stand point of not rooting a phone is because a lot of phones don't have the custom ROMS at all, or ones that fully work bug free/glitch free.

Yeah for this price range not a lot can be expected , but as a consumer looking for value for money , which among the phones released in 2017 have aged the best so far (granted the pixel and iPhone have been out only for less than 6 months and theS8 has been out for almost a year ...) maybe an update in the first quarter of 2018 to let us know which phone to buy if the investment is on a long term basis ?
