Yes! I want him to react to these two songs more than any other reaction right now because he's a Christian, and so openly emotional. I hope he does it right, and does part 1&2 together, and does the required leg work to fully appreciate the piece, I.e. learning about Maynard's mom and then first listening to Judith by APC.
This song is such a great example of how to do an absolutely epic guitar solo without playing a million notes/scales. Adam’s textures and the playing within the song is what make him one of my favorite guitarists and how I have always approached the instrument… not nearly as well as him, but being around the same age as Adam, I totally hear his influences and relate to him so well. This song just fn rocks.
Yeah, that goes for any instrument really. The temptation is always there to play the most super fast and complex stuff you can, but actually playing what the song needs is often much harder.
People always talk about Danny, MJK, and Adam, but hardly anyone mentions Justin Chamberlain. But so much of Tool's sound is built on the bedrock he lays down, with so many brilliant bass lines over the decades. And the way he and Danny Carey lock together like perfectly cut gears is phenomenal. Every member of the band is the most important member of the band.
The way this song is structured, it takes you from the calm before the storm, builds up, hits you with the "storm" of music. Then you enter the eye of the storm, it's calm, lulls you a bit. Then the tail end of the storm hits you as it passes away from you... then clear skies at the end, a mirror musically of the intro. The song is a literal hurricane.
Once, I saw Tool play in Boulder, Colorado. It was a beautiful experience for so many reasons. One of those reasons: after Tool had finished the concert, they all came to the forefront of the stage and embraced each other with smiles. It seemed so sincere and genuine. It was touching. I think the love they have for each other runs deep despite their differences. There is wisdom in this for us, I think.
Here's the fun thing about becoming a Tool fan. Once you stop being just a fan of the music, and you realize the octopus back there is just a monster, you can go back and listen to the songs again with a new "ear" and fall in love again. Danny NEVER fails to impress IMO.
13 years waiting for a new Tool album and this was the first track I heard off of Fear. Dark room, good headphones, and a giant ass smile is what I got. Love watching you blossom.
@@TsmithJustin Hear ya. I was more of a Window Pane/Yellow Sun/Felix the Cat type. But had to leave those days behind. Swear though there are times listening to Tool can induce flashbacks :)
for me, the "Victim of your certainty and therefore, your doubt's not an option" hits hard as one of the final lines. Before fear inoculum came out, I never really experienced listening to new tool music properly. I got their early catalogue by osmosis, and even 10000 days I didn't really appreciate initially as the incredible work of art it is. Being able to experience fear inoculum as a new work and digest each song as its own has been incredible. I'm truly excited to see your reaction to 10,000 Days. I have a feeling you're one of the rare reactors that will actually "get" those songs. So many times I've watched and been disappointed because reactors didn't take the time to understand what they were listening to with those tracks. I get that not everyone is a Tool fan, but you really only have to be a vulnerable person to feel the message they're sharing with us.
The beginning verses/chorus' are actually in 4/4 timing, the guitar accents are just placed in unusual spots in the measure that make it sound like its an odd time, the Pot is the same way..the bass line cycles in 3's but the time signature is still 4/4. Rhythmic tricks like that are what make them ingenious imo

A lot of parallels in this album with the last couple years of this Covid nightmare we are living through. The timing of the album's release, album title and art, and Maynard is prescient with lyrics, as always. I love TOOL and have really enjoyed watching you experience the band for the first time.

Eulogy is fantastic. That entire album is worth a listen, start to finish. Also check out anything from Undertow as well. And their first EP, Opiate is fantastic! Don't skip early Tool. They've been great from the start😁
@@ZENN121 if ya wanna a real roaster of the people, I'd have to say the title track Aenima.... "Fret for... (everything)", "F*ck...(everyone)" - those lyrics make me laugh hard and anyone new who listens...lol... gets 'em everytime.
The song Eulogy is what hooked me into Tool. One of the most interesting build up ever. Older Tool. Should definitely listen to it. Then compare old with the new.
Awesome reactions to my favorite band of all time! Welcome to the Tool family. Enjoy your journey down the rabbit hole. I look forward to your experience as you navigate through MJKs bands (Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer). Listen to what people say in the comments, especially about songs that you must react to together as it is the only correct way to do it. Since you mentioned Adam Jones' guitar, check out The Witness, which is an excellent graphical and musical advertisement if you will for Gibson and has Adam, Danny and Justin playing together. It's breathtakingly awesome. Look forward to future reactions!
this is about what's going on today. the world is so polarized that all we do is fight about who is right and wrong. this means personal, social, and political.
Don't worry..no Mosh pits at their indoor shows. And no phone cameras allowed also. Maybe last song they will. They want you to experience the show and bro, the show is mind blowing!! the visuals are unreal. Excited for your 1st show. Great reaction. Definitely need to do a few off the Undertow album
So, at the start of 2020, they started playing this song live. First time Maynard was silent, we caught it the third time in Auckland, on Leap night, with the vocals. Was impressive to say the least. And the fourth was their last before covid ended the tour
Well, now you should definitely check out Adam's video/song that presented his signature Gibson guitar. It's called "The Witness" and it's nothing short of EPIC. It showcases perfectly well the 2 things that make Adam Jones one of the top tier talents in the artistic scene: his visualspecial effects skills combined with his composing skills. And there's also a couple of guests in the music part that will bring a smile to your face. Highly recommend you do that one ASAP.
Also, you should do "Jimmy" by Tool and then "Judith" by A Perfect Circle before doing "Wings for Marie" and "10000 days". It's the chronological order of the songs Maynard rote about his mother, Judith Marie. I also highly recommend that you do them in the proper order.
All confused....welcome to parenthood! If you are full of love you can not go wrong :) What a great way to spend those early mornings...great reaction. Cheers!
If you want an actually long listening experience with tool, please please please check out “tools holy trinity”. It’s three songs coming together as one, and in my opinion they’re some of the greatest 3 songs ever written
5:16 - Well Justin goes between 4/4 and 13/8 for some five minutes (!) in the backgound from around 3m46s onwards. (You'll get into that part at 08:39 on this video) Here's a link to a bass cover with tabs if you want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/FBB_KjDyH2E/w-d-xo.html (LeoBassCovers channel, nice bass covers there btw). I would really recommend you check it out at your own time. :)
Oh and here's a link to a good guitar cover by Cameron Winters of this song: th-cam.com/video/NYVvHhEoK9M/w-d-xo.html Again, I would suggest you check it out at your own time. :) He also released a song "Fear Inocullama" which you could check out as well. xD th-cam.com/video/t9_aakNa5A8/w-d-xo.html
You should listen to "The Witness", which is a composition he did for the release of his signature guitar. No spoilers, but you REALLY should listen to it. It's incredible.
Adam is synonymous with Gibson silverburst LP. Before his signature model he played some 60s or 70s models I think. I'm sure he still uses them. Seymour Duncan pickups. I was so obsessed with his playing in highschool that I got a silverburst SG (epiphone tho) and put Seymour Duncan's in it. Lol
I believe the signature models were based off his ‘79 LP…. I had a ‘79 Standard for years and loved it until the neck went. Still wish I had sent it to Gibson for new neck, but too broke at the time lol
So regarding funky time signatures, Danny and Justin are huge King Crimson fans. The opening melody is is an homage to the song Frame by Frame by them. That song is amazing, you should check it out. It's too short but beautiful af.
Mosh pits at a Tool concert? Nope it’s frowned on . We’re old dude, we like wine.I’m 45 fan since 94 , 25 years ago yes, there were mosh pits. But not now. A festival , anything goes, but a actual Tool show , even general admission is seating. Your going to a show? I’m going to the Vegas show Jan 23, but I have toe amputation surgery this Tuesday, hopefully I heal fast enough to make the show
It seems most people think this song was about Trump. To each their own opinion of course but I tend to agree more with your interpretation that it is not just a single political figure but groups and those with hidden agendas that lure people to believe in a false sense of hope. Feeling the need for change in a political climate by overthrowing (democratically or otherwise) just allows that "tempest" to fester and bring havoc from a different side. If that makes sense. Yes looking forward to your next Tool reaction.
A couple of people have mentioned that you should experience the Maynard’s Mom Trilogy. I agree that you’re ready- please research beforehand all 3 songs. Listen to them understanding the concept of Theodicy ( I’m pretty sure you do already), and how you personally understand Jesus. Then- go back and re-listen to Right In Two and Parabol/Parabola. I love your videos- thank you for sharing them.
I always love to see how comments there are so quickly! I'm usually not even up this early. lol No matter what anyone says, this song's main focus was our past President. Maynard would never admit that, but he doesn't have to. It's quite clear. ;)
I seem to hear inferences in so much of Maynard's writing. The video of 'The Arsonist,' by Puscifer. Makes this obvious, his distain of the man that must not be named, lol.
Just wanted to add something else....I love Tool, but I love the band Rush, even more. Odd time signatures are their specialty. Check out La Villa Strangiato, YYZ, Xanadu and 2112
This album is like a cleansing....At the same time we are about to go through a cleansing in AMERICA!!! It's all going down one drip at a time!! Those with eyes can SEE!!!
**Need to listen to JUDITH from A Perfect Circle before listening to Wings for Marie, this song is during his mother being paralyzed and still alive. You will appreciate the other songs even more!
Not to be the “actually” guy, but actually this song is in 21. The combinations of time signatures fluctuate a little throughout, but they all combine through the phrases to 21. The main combination being three bars of 5/8 plus a bar of 6/8. Thanks for the reactions, man 🙏

Danny is the master of those time signatures, he has a past of A. Crowley reading, His time signatures are like different levels of some inner meditation that involves some trance like state. Something like that...🌀
Such a great song and love your reaction brother!!. But I'll be honest, "The Tempest" was my least favorite one on the album when I heard it all the way through for the first time. Now I think that it is probably one of the best songs that TOOL has ever written. It really takes a lot to write a 15 minute song and it not have it get redundant/repetitive. Very few bands can do that - Porcupine Tree & Dream Theater are two others that come to mind - but Adam, Maynard, Justin, and Danny are the masters at it. That has what has kept me being a hardcore fan of theirs for 30 years now. Also, like others here who have commented, don't overlook "Culling Voices" on this album. It's not the best song they've ever written, but it is still highly underrated and an amazing work of art. Take it from me bro, let your little girl sleep. I have two kids of myself (girl 9 and boy 18), and I remember that moment when they finally slept through the night and it was magical (like finally)!!! 👶👶
Be prepared to cry when you hear Wings For Marie and 10,000 Days. It’s beautifully painful to witness those two pieces of music

@@ZENN121 if ya wanna a real roaster of the people, I'd have to say the title track Aenima.... "Fret for... (everything)", "F*ck...(everyone)" - those lyrics make me laugh hard and anyone new who listens...lol... gets 'em everytime.
Shit adds up at the bottom 🤘
Haven’t even watched 10 seconds and I’ve already “liked” it, Tool Army love
and won best metal performance.
Happy Friday bro bro, thanks for the video 🤘
The song Eulogy is what hooked me into Tool. One of the most interesting build up ever. Older Tool. Should definitely listen to it. Then compare old with the new.
It seems (some of) the fellas are fans of puzzles, sacred geometry... the polyrhythms have a circular, meditative effect. On me, anyway. :D
Keep... keep it ...keep it calm FUCK here we go again
this is about what's going on today. the world is so polarized that all we do is fight about who is right and wrong. this means personal, social, and political.
Might be my favorite on this album
Don't worry..no Mosh pits at their indoor shows. And no phone cameras allowed also. Maybe last song they will. They want you to experience the show and bro, the show is mind blowing!! the visuals are unreal. Excited for your 1st show. Great reaction. Definitely need to do a few off the Undertow album
That was the upload I was hoping to see and it didnt dissapoint. Next, Invincible and Wings for Marie (Part I & II).
Here’s hoping a Tempest comes to an arena near me in March
Adams signature guitar is a 79 silver burst Les Paul by Gibson, just a gorgeous work of art.
Sebs: *really obviously loving the deeper meaning tool*
The 'tool army': PlEaSe Do 7EmPeSt CuZ I lIkE tHaT oNe
So, at the start of 2020, they started playing this song live. First time Maynard was silent, we caught it the third time in Auckland, on Leap night, with the vocals. Was impressive to say the least.
And the fourth was their last before covid ended the tour
The song is mostly in 21. With either 3 groups of 7 or a 5-5-6-5.
(You'll get into that part at 08:39 on this video)
Here's a link to a bass cover with tabs if you want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/FBB_KjDyH2E/w-d-xo.html (LeoBassCovers channel, nice bass covers there btw).
I would really recommend you check it out at your own time. :)
Oh and here's a link to a good guitar cover by Cameron Winters of this song: th-cam.com/video/NYVvHhEoK9M/w-d-xo.html
Again, I would suggest you check it out at your own time. :)
He also released a song "Fear Inocullama" which you could check out as well. xD

7empest!!! You better start running on that thing bro!!
You should listen to "The Witness", which is a composition he did for the release of his signature guitar. No spoilers, but you REALLY should listen to it. It's incredible.
Well, not as a reaction.
Listen and watch
Need to do Old Tool to see them grow into what they are now.
Listen to Judith by APC before Wings for Marie.
3 Grammy wins for this song back in 2020 for this song and its video...
And here..we .. go.
🤣🤣 when you were like my kid slept and I feel good, I was like "calm before the torrent comes"
Adam Jones made a music video and original song for his signature Gibson guitar, you need to check it out!
Great ear man! Its an Electronic Trigger Pad he has set up with Hammer Dulcimer samples.
I’ll say it again…. The song H. And Jimmy are musts as a father
Check out La Villa Strangiato, YYZ, Xanadu and 2112
"Let's Go!" :)
Tool - jimmy
They love King Crimson! Listen to them. They are a huge influence on those guys
GO GET EM DANNT BOY...THE BACKBONE OF TO0L....
Not to be the “actually” guy, but actually this song is in 21. The combinations of time signatures fluctuate a little throughout, but they all combine through the phrases to 21. The main combination being three bars of 5/8 plus a bar of 6/8. Thanks for the reactions, man 🙏
Speaking of the Gibson Starburst,
"The Witness" by Adam Jones is a must watch video.
In the production of fear inoculum, the band heavily considered making the entire album one straight song.
Yeah buddy 😎
And that right there was the best song ever written by any band ever!! I can't wait to see them AGAIN in a few short weeks in Tacoma, I hope you do to! First show for me was Seattle 1992 and last was SD 2020 and so many in-between.. LETS GO!!! #Toolarmy
I'll be there in Tacoma too 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Very reminiscent of their Opiate EP.
Tempest at 5 am....you are gonna be soooooo motivated today.lol
