FYI: 2:26 if you can speak or read bahasa Indonesia, you can see the banner there "WE HAVE COMMITMENT TO NOT CATCH SHARK AND STINGRAYS WHO PROTECTED BY INDONESIAN LAWS"
Yes it says the same thing in English underneath. The problem is that hardly any species have full protection in Indonesia even though they are protected and endangered in almost every other country.
Even so, I'm not too worried about these indonesian fishermen who catch sharks on a small scale, in Japan it's even worse, they catch sharks on a large scale and only take the shark's fins, then throw the shark's body back into the sea.
Yes, it seems that the rules aren't being enforced and also aren't strong enough in the first place. Hopefully things will change before it's too late.
@@EddieExplores even worst, the local goverment prettended like this think doesn't happend. Like you said, this is complex problem. Every side is wrong. and the worst think is, the goverment extremely corrupt. They didn't even try to fix this problem. They just making the "good cover" for this. They promised to fix this problem and making program that didn't fix the problem, but just looks good for their next election. This is so sad, uneducated poeple and the corrupt goverment. It's not about the rule, it's about the poeple who have control to the rule.
The only way to fix it, is to make the sharks worth more money alive than dead but its hard in areas where their isn't much tourism to do that. Unless governments paid people to conserve them
At certain times there are raids by government officials, after that it relaxes again, because they all need it. Preserving nature and animals is a luxury for local people. There is still a long time for them to leave this job. Maybe later their children will become TH-camrs or other jobs and get a good income and they don't touch their parents' jobs.
in Indonesia fisheries the goverment regulation is not really firm, so there always some fishermen that wanting more and more to their profit. Hope the goverment can see this video and make a real firm regulation to protect species that in exctict status
I have only ever eaten shark once, ten years ago in Australia and it tasted really bad. They are top of the food chain so contain a lot of mercury which is really bad for humans.
Its small scale fisherman , not big trawl boat wiping shark population to export in big scale out of the country. Btw, In other part of indonesia, eating shark still uncommon, its just an exception for consumption for certain local, not a common practice. Just like whale hunt in Lamakera, it is not for industrial purpose but for local people consumption.

Shark is 🤢🤢 my auntie is thai so i have eaten alot of food from different cultures is Asia, but honestly shark is tough and it will eventually hurt you if you eat to much. Shark fin soup tastes like bleach
@@EddieExplores I've been to many places around Indo for work and I love seafood, but I haven't been to any place that eat sharks. It dosnt taste nice, people know that, and there's endless delish fish option to eat here.
I'm ok with it! It's part of their heritage and tradition. Who are we to judge them. They have to eat something. At least it ain't dolphins 😂. Great video!
The sharks aren't hunted for food they are are hunted to make money selling fins to other countries in Asia. The meat is just a byproduct. Thanks for watching!
It does! I don't think it would take a lot from the government to improve the situation dramatically though. But the more I travel the more I realise the destruction of the environment is just a matter of time, humans will be humans sadly.
Go look at your government and your country first before looking into other people country!!! I feel nauseous everytime I see western people like you dictate what should be done to anyone else country while your own government and your tax money are killing other human lives for a living. I agree it is a very hard problem to tackle. The government has to try and do more about it.

There is still a long time for them to leave this job. Maybe later their children will become TH-camrs or other jobs and get a good income and they don't touch their parents' jobs.
I agree that they need other work options for sure, you can't blame the fishermen who just want to feed their families.

I hope so! Sharks are so important to the ecosystem of the ocean and if something isn't done about this soon the knock on effect will be catastrophic.
is that in lombok,right ?
Yes, Tanjung Luar fish market in East Lombok.
how does it taste? is it good?

The eating of shark meat is not why they are hunted, it is to make money selling the fins to other parts of Asia for shark fin soup.

Shark meat is filled with mercury and is so bad for humans to eat, especially for pregnant women and children.
