    Lucille Ball was not an easy person to interview unlike Desi Arnaz who was an open book. Both dynamite though, amazingly interesting people, with incredible lives.
    Leave it to mr Dick Cavett to always come through and turn any difficult interview into a pleasant time.

    Interesting comments on her body language and demeanor. I took it the whole time as somebody that has built a tough exterior image because of, well, life, but who is actually quite sensitive, which she then admits. Cavett recognized that and drew it out of her. She's proud and guarded, not rude or uncaring. Just my opinion.

      Yes a little bit she’s leaning on the other side, but not facing away. It the camera angle too, when they focus on her but when you see the two of them in front shot, they’re aligned. Also when you watch the full interview of this she’s moving around a lot and also is having heat issues with her coat feathers etc😂 An absolute legend ❤❤ A powerful woman
      She liked dick. She was also promoting her new project all day she mentions that in another clip

    I do remember reading that Desi told her NOT to do tv interviews when they were doing I Love Lucy - because her real nature was the opposite of Lucy Ricardo, and her voice was lower than that of her tv persona. However, years later when she did to tv interviews - so much criticism (just as Desi had warned). However, I remember someone commenting how rude and off putting she was with Johnny Carson, for example. They were very good friends and I saw just the opposite when she was on his show.

  • @ron8746
    @ron8746 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

    I was a HUGE fan of Lucille Ball and thought she was incredibly talented. However, she was never herself during interviews because she was too "aware" of herself. The only time she could let go of her self-awareness, was when she was in front of the camera - as Lucy Ricardo.

    • @darreylhenderson702
      @darreylhenderson702 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Actually, pretty much everyone who worked with her, and knew her said that she was nothing like the Lucy character, even her own children said this. Lucy Ricardo was actually basically the opposite of the real life Lucy.

      Yes, you're absolutely right, Lucille Ball was the complete polar opposite of Lucy Ricardo. Which is why she could let go of her self-awareness "behind" the character. But in a public situation such as an interview, not so much.

    I HAVE NEVER SEEN SOMEONE SEATED SIDEWAY IN A CHAIR DURING AN INTERVIEW, AS IF THEY REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO BE THERE.
    THAT CLIP WASN'T FUNNY AT ALL TO ME; IT WAS STUPID. IT WAS LIKE A CLIP FROM A "THREE STOOGES" COMEDY SHORT, AND I ACTUALLY STILL ENJOY, AT AGE 78, WATCHING THEM. OF ALL THE NUMEROUS TRULY AMUSING AND WITTY SKITS THAT WERE PRESENTED IN THE SHOW, I THINK THIS WAS A POOR CHOICE. "DE GUSTUBIS NON EST DISPUTANDEM."
    FOR ME, WILLIAM FRAWLY WAS THE BEST PART OF THE SHOW AS THE GRUMPY NEIGHBOR.
    I ALWAYS LIKED LUCILLE BALL BEST IN DRAMATIC FILM ROLES BEFORE AND AFTER HER LONG, FAME-MAKING "LUCY" GIG. THE MOST INTERESTING EPISODES OF "I LOVE LUCY" WERE THE ONES THAT FEATURED CAMEOS BY CELEBRITIES LIKE JOHN WAYNE AND THE LIKE.
    LUCILLE DESIREE BALL [1911-1989]
    WAS BORN IN JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK AND DIED IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA AGED 77 FROM A RUPTURED ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURYSM AND HEART DISEASE (arteriosclerosis).

      Something can not be funny and be historical at the same time. I didn't say that the clip had to be funny, ergo,
      your criticism makes absolutely no sense. Don't be so sensitive, and rude. Don't go out of your way to attack someone with vain reasoning over basically nothing. You don't possess the temperament or the intelligence to pass the vior dire of a low level jury trial.
      The bottom line is that the "I LOVE LUCY" show had many truly amusing moments to chose a clip to show, and a silly event was selected that was something out of a silly. ridiculous "THREE STOOGES" short.
      Incidentally, I thoroughly enjoyed the "Stooges" and their antics, and still do. But these cast members acting like inept stooges didn't work for me.
      So chill out.😊

      I AM ELDERLY WITH WEAK EYESIGHT AND USE A SMALL SCREEN SMART PHONE, WHICH HAS THE OPTION OF CHOOSING BOLD AND LARGE FONTS.
      THE MILITARY HAS USED ALL UPPER CASE FOR YEARS DUE TO THE EASINESS OF READING IT, AND LESS CHANCE OF TYPOS. THIS IS THE INTERNET. WE ARE NOT TYPING THESISES FOR PHD's HERE. TUBERS USE ALL SORTS OF BIZARRE CODE LANGUAGES, EMOJIS, TYPE FACES, UPPER AND LOWER CASE LETTERS, (alTeRnAtInG the characters),
      USE OBSCENE LANGUAGE, HARRASS AND THREATEN PEOPLE, E.T. AL.
      THESE ARE THE PEOPLE YOU SHOULD BE UPSET OVER.
      NOBODY FORCED YOU TO READ MY COMMENT. I SEE OTHERS USING UPPER CASE EVERY DAY AND HAVE NEVER THOUGHT ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT IT. YOUR ASSERTION THAT IT IS INAPPROPRIATE TO USE UPPER CASE IS A FALSEHOOD THAT YOU HAVE PROJECTED OUT OF YOUR OWN PREJUDICED, TRIVIAL MIND.
      THE INTERNET AND MANUFACTURERS OF SMART PHONES GIVE US THE OPTION OF USING UPPER AND LOWER CASE AS WE SEE FIT. INFERNAL TROLLS LIKE YOU THAT USE THE COMMENT PAGES AS A "DEVILS PLAYGROUND" TO HARRASS PEOPLE OVER SOMETHING AS INNOCUOUS AS USING UPPER CASE ARE THE BANE OF SOCIAL MEDIA.
      YOUR OPENING SNIDE REMARK, "WHO ASKED?" IS THE EPITOME OF A HAUGHTY, HARE-BRAINED

      AVERRING THAT UPPER CASE IS INAPPROPRIATE IS RIDICULOUS. I USE IT BECAUSE
      I AM ELDERLY WITH WEAK EYESIGHT AND IT IS TOO MUCH OF AN EYE STRAIN TYPING ON MY SMALL SMARTPHONE KEYBOARD. THE MILITARY HAS USED ALL UPPERCASE SINCE THE INCEPTION OF TYPEWRITERS AND INTO THE ERA OF TELE-COMMUNICATIONS BECAUSE IT IS EASIER TO READ AND REDUCES TYPOS. I NOTICE IT USED EVERY DAY BY COMMENTERS, AND HAVE NEVER HAD A NEGATIVE REACTION TO IT.
      THIS IS THE FREE-WHEELING INTERNET. THERE IS NO FORMALITY HERE. WE ARE NOT TYPING THESISES FOR PHD'S. PEOPLE USE BIZARRE CODES, ALL MANNER OF FONTS AND EMOJIS,
      TYPE LETTERS ALTERNATLY IN UPPER AND LOWER CASE TO
      BE UNCONVENTIONAL, USE OBSCENITY AND VULGARITY, HARRASS AND MAKE THREATS, ET. AL. THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED WITH, NOT SOMEONE TYPING AN INNOCUOUS COMMENT IN UPPER CASE, WHICH IS PROVIDED BY THE DEVICE MANUFACTURERS AND THE INTERNET TO USE AT OUR OWN DISCRETION.
      AS FAR AS YOU RUDELY OPENING YOUR COMMENT WITH A SNIDE AND INFLAMMATORY "WHO ASKED?", NOW THAT WAS FRAGRANTLY
      INAPPROPRIATE, AND THE TYPE OF STATEMENT A HAUGHTY, UNSCHOOLED SIX YEAR OLD BRAT WOULD MAKE.

It's ridiculous how someone so talented and beloved can be cold and dismissive to others, acting as if they're beneath her. I admire and respect Ball (she and Desi made _huge_ strides in television entertainment in their heyday, and at Desilu she basically saved Star Trek from getting the axe early in its run), but don't like her because I have heard too many anecdotes about how crummy she could treat folks.
