  • This is a bit of a different video, but I thought I would break down the costs of a Serengeti Safari.
Obviously, there are a lot of different options, but in the video, I try to break down the 2 different types of costs: Fixed and Variable.
The fixed costs you can't really do anything about while the variable costs come down to preference.
I will do another video about ways to game the system and maybe make it a bit cheaper, but this will give a good baseline.
TL;DR: plan on $450 per person per day for your safari!

Do u recommend staying outside the park on western side in budget lodges to avoid the 60$ per person per night concession fees. Do u loose a lot by not staying inside the park .

Really fair question: that $60 adds up quick, especially if you are going with a few people or multiple nights. You can turn 2 nights into 3 by staying outside, plus the amenities could be nicer. Yeah, its nice waking up in the park sometimes depending on where you are staying. But some lodges cut power in the middle of the night, where lodges outside the park usually don't. I really recommend Serenity on the Lake (and another is Speke Bay). Get in touch with them directly and get a quote and even negotiate. Both lodges are about 15 min drive from the gate. The Western gate takes a bit to get into the park, but if you don't mind driving a bit more staying outside the park is a great option.

Very useful video Evan. Thanks. Any recommendation for a reasonably affordable lodge in the North of the park?

Hey, I have found that there are lots of little places to stay outside the park in the Fort Ikoma area. It is a little bit harder to get to, however it is at the north and there are really cheap places that you can go and come out of quite easily. Plus there are usually extra drivers around if you need that.

Mbalengeti is great and recommended. More expensive is Asilia. Both are phenomenal

@@marsyblackwood5321 thanks for asking. Personally, I will never go back to the Seronera Wildlife Lodge. There are some nice views, but I found it really expensive for what it is and management was terrible. I have heard it may be under new ownership, but I can't confirm it.
That said you may be apart of a larger group and they may try to put everyone there. It is a convenient place... For the guides and drivers as it's right smack in the middle. It's also a massive block building hotel, so nothing special.
Just looking at the prices, depending on when you are going the Serena is a much nicer hotel and close by. Though I would suggest Kubu Kubu Lodge which is within 5 Kms of Seronera. Really nice, good food, tented room that is flowing instead of a stuffy hotel room.
There are other options, so speak to your agent. Reach out if you have any other questions.
