@@WardenOfTerra He said in the video why he allocated points in dexterity: to equip flails - namely Steel and Malice runewords. You can farm runes for both from normal Countess, and Act 2 normal Fara sells 2/3 socketed flail bases. Drain Life -5 from Malice can be countered with the Replenish Life +5 or more. Easy to do with a Perfect Skull in a helmet or armor. This setup cuts through normal like butter.

I have beaten D1 and D3 many times using barbarian, so I thought let's start D2 with a barbarian, it's my always go to character in ARPG's. Without the right gear Frenzy Barb gets very sticky at around lvl 60. You'll hit a wall pretty fast. Would be nice to see not just early game runewords but mid and late as well.
for late you should change your build which is the reason why fextralife gives 2 builds for each chars. for 60 level you should continue with whirlwind build.
I know better than to go into a new ARPG without a game plan after my time in POE and D3. Appreciate these starter builds! Now to decide the class. Leaning toward Druid just because I like all the possibilities
I got to be honest I played barbarian in d2 and a frenzy barb. I ran this through hell difficulty and it was very effective. Focus on attack sore and move speed and make sure you have life/ mana leech. I used dual axes the unique ones that increase attack speed by 30%.
Frenzy Barb is insane. I’m not even good, I’m playing console with no trading or farming. I have a unique flail and unique spiked club, and I’m just chewing through act 5. Everything dies, and nothing can run away fast enough. It’s just the “O Lawd He Comin!!!” build.
Fabulous guide. How does this stack up to a shield-oriented Conc build for Hardcore difficulty? I'm debating whether I really need the survivability of Concentrate in normal difficulty.
Appreciate the build guide variety. I remember years ago when I played I thought I was doing good with a Frenzy barb, only to get roflstomped when i hit nightmare because of the resistance penalty. Looking forward to getting back into the game. (Also FYI on the Wiki for this build you only have 36 points distributed for level 40 .. im guessing the remaining 4 are meant to be in Mace Mastery)
I did this and went through hell using axes. It's best to focus into into Its synergy and the skill weapon skill and defense. Get anything that increases attack speed to. If done right you'll melt enemies and blaze through the areas. When I did 4 man parties and I would make a trail and be on bosses before they would make it a quarter of the way.
Hit Act 5, still havent found any better base level maces since act 2 .. getting pretty frustrated .. clearing demons in Frigid Highlands and Areat Plateau, but one dungeon in the middle area is screwing me over - getting killed in 4 hits by the minotaur type axe weileders - im doing cold on hit to slow them down but am getting creamed. Cannot find any more socketed items to update "Stealth" armour .. maxed resistances and still falling in 4 hits. Why would MACE be the preferred weapon type for this build when there are hardly any mace items after flails that aren't slow as F
@@Lothak just hit 30, str /dex / con approx 70,40,120 Skills mostly frenzy and double swing, some in speed and mace mastery. Followed most of the build guide. It seems like frenzy speeds my movement but I still attack slowly. Not sure if I'm seeing everything effecting me. 75 resists across the board but still get chilled to be attacking slow in the act 5 ice caves, the minotaur have some effect around them that drains my health even when they aren't visually attacking.
@@AngelusNZ been a while by they may have the cold aura been a while but if I remember mace type weapons have the slowest attack speed. This is why I say axes or swords. At max lvl (20) your looking at almost a 50% atk.spd increase which will put slow to fast and and very slow to normal. 1 handed axes normal is the slowest speed for them. So at the near 50% your looking at very fast.
Solid content as usual. Minor correction though: Malice actually deal damage to the user passively over time and not per hit. It's kinda like the opposite of replenish life. This passive damage can be avoided by just swapping weapons when you aren't attacking, and by life steal, life per kill, or replenish life on an item. Again, just a minor note. Still a fantastic beginner video. Looking forward to more D2 content and the inevitable Elden Ring content.
I'm not sure this guy has actually played the game. He doesn't even know how to toggle show items in his video and thinks frenzy barb is only for level 40 and below, lol!
@@magicortega but you can start a normal difficulty game any time once up to nightmare or hell, stuff like the the stat reset/charsi imbue are still available if not used before.
Damn I used my respec on accident and I had a similar build on my lvl 23 barb just instead of Maces I Put it in Axes 🪓 and I noticed they do not favor axes in this game at all. Oh well now I'm stuck on Duriel with and no decend tems are dropping and my gear looking ass oh well I might just have to reset
You're doing it all wrong, the best barbarian is the one who can burst damage in few seconds while stealing life, that means using Dual weapon, and additionally LEAP Damage. When you encounter the real barbarians from Arreat Summit you'll know what I'm talking about. Frenzy is for noobs.
I noticed that with Malice I was draining health without swinging my weapon. I was losing health in town. Not that it was a problem, but it was still worth pointing out I thought
Hello i have an issue that i don't understand... I put one mace on each hand but each time i put a skill point on double swing my max damage go down ? I try to explain. For example i'm lvl 10 with 16-112 damage on right hand (left on gear screen) and another mace on the other hand. My double swing kill is lvl 3. So when i put 1 skill point to be lvl 4 on double swing my damage drop to 16-108... Do you know why ? Thank you for your guide !
Wouldn't dumping points into bash, instead of double swing be more beneficial? A 10% damage upgrade vs a lower mana cost and added attack rating. I could be wrong.
I didn't get the point book in act 2 I killed him then went to pick book up and server kicked me. Went back killed him again and he didn't drop books. So frustrating
Does the weapon bug for AS still works? Because it seems that no matter what (equip fast AS above boots and unewuip-reequip the weapon above gloves ) at least visualy and in character sheet seems that it always read as main weapon the one above gloves..
I had no idea from the title that this guide is for begginers only . I hoped to learn something new . Got very disapointed since there is nothing new or even smt that is not Obvious for veteran players ....
@@AureliusGameTheory you could, yea, at least 2 items or 3. If you don't, go farm the countess from act 1 and she will give you runes. Also you can kill Andariel to get loot =)

Made a new barbarian, I’ve been grinding the countless since level 12 and not a single EL rune has dropped yet but tons of higher tier runes. I’m trying to make Malice and Steel runewords but she won’t drop EL! I’m level 19 now. That’s how many runs.
@@AureliusGameTheory yeah 2 "steel" tir/el flails. Just reload act 2 until the merchant sells a 2 socket flail. Do the same for a 2 socket helm and get the "nadir" runeword helm.
Yeah probably since you can only unlock Frenzy at 24 and Double Throw earlier on (but I really don't see the benefits in Double Throw but I might miss this since i'm new to this game)
Followed th guide to a tee was great until nightmare any suggestions after 40?? Im kinda stuck? Yrs ago i was a whirlwind barb but got stuck at nightmare coz iwasnt shore where to put points now stuck again
You should be able to finish nightmare stage with basic equipments though and with level 50 as i remembered . Just repeat the nightmare boss until you get better items and you should be Able to clear nightmare until stage 5 Boss. ❤❤❤❤
barbs should never use a shield, they dont have skills for it like a pally... 2 handed or 2 one handers. conc/beserk is secondary to a ww primary build. also, early game suggesting a stealth with a vita built barb isnt needed..you will have more than enough health to not me put into hit recovery.
I found his other video saying whirlwind Barb was best for nightmare & hell mode. Just to clarify I don’t agree or disagree since I’m just now making a barb and looking at my options but I’m just telling you what the TH-camr recommends for non-normal game modes. That’s all.

gloves belt and boots from the sigon set , is a staple for any melee build , (30 % As + 10% life leech + frost resist and 50% magic find) u'll have the core stats to kill +- everything in ur way . especially if u max ur lightning res fast enough .
sigon should be swapped for some immortal king when available , but honestly sigon gloves + another piece of sigon will give you the edge if u grab decent gear to complement it .
Do I need to dual wield or does frenzy work for 2 hand swings? Also potion find isn't that great as it is easy to afford potions at level 10 or before anyways?
It's a duel wield skill. Also don't use double swing with it. If you get the skill high enough through attack speed gear and such you'll mow stuff down before the opportunity to use double swing. I personally went with axes due to fury runeword (+5 frenzy for each one) but swords work as well. If don right your attack speed will be so fast it'll be hard to notice. Another reason not to use double swing is you'll have to invest into bash for extra damage as to where you could put those points into taunt and double swing for huge damage bonus.
@@Lothak frenzy is broken and unusable on controller. Barb doesnt step toward the enemy like double swing. He stands there just outside of range and doesnt hit. Often times he glitches out and starts vibrating not hitting anything. The attack speed doesnt work either, just a normal attack, speed
@@Bear-88 it builds up it'll be unnoticeable at first and at 20 points but drop duel fury and anything you can use to increase skills into it and over all attack speed you'll see it then.
fuck. i leveled up my strength so much and i barely leveled up the vitality. my strength is at like 105 or something. my barb feels strong af but i feel like i leveled up the wrong thing now. am i good or fucked?
As always an amazing guide ! I have a question though. This video and every other video and written guide says that the El rune that you need to craft the Steel Rune Word and the Malice rune word is supposedly the easiest of them to find while farming Countess. However, I wasted like 3 hours farming that monster to only drop ONE el rune , while having almost a full stash box of the other ones that she drops. Am I unlucky, is it normal (the rarity) or am I missing something? Thanks !
Thanks for this video! About El Rune - I've read somewhere that Drop rate is Act2 and above. If its true forget the Countess so early :))) Best of luck!
I watched first few guides but from this one onwards it will be thumbs down due to repetition of the same content in more than 50% of the video run time. It's like there is 2-3 minutes of fresh content in each guide and then there are recaps from the general guide, and all of this is mixed so there is no skipping recaps without missing some new content.

AMN LEM KO in a 3 socket weapon and most of ur problems will fade away , pretty useful for farming keys for ubers too .

For the longest time I Was like was is Hit Recovery. I thought it was something based on Potions or Health Replenish! Thanks for the Video!
You should mention steel runeword only work on Mace, morningstar and flail. Other mace type weapons won't count for mace rune words

I actually find the barbarian to be much easier to play than other classes, especially the sorceress and assassin.
Just a Tip.. you cant skill Frenzy, then Double Throw.. must be Double Throw at 23 as Pre-Req..

Before respec yes, after reapec no because it doesn't benefit frenzy
Huh... i still run frenzy before remastered and still am now... tho i noticed you can't use frenzy with mauls even more.

I personally went with axes due to fury runeword (+5 frenzy for each one) but swords work as well. If don right your attack speed will be so fast it'll be hard to notice. Another reason not to use double swing is you'll have to invest into bash for extra damage as to where you could put those points into taunt and double swing for huge damage bonus.
@@Lothak frenzy is broken and unusable on controller. Barb doesnt step toward the enemy like double swing. He stands there just outside of range and doesnt hit. Often times he glitches out and starts vibrating not hitting anything. The attack speed doesnt work either, just a normal attack, speed
@@Bear-88 it builds up it'll be unnoticeable at first and at 20 points but drop duel fury and anything you can use to increase skills into it and over all attack speed you'll see it then.

fuck. i leveled up my strength so much and i barely leveled up the vitality. my strength is at like 105 or something. my barb feels strong af but i feel like i leveled up the wrong thing now. am i good or fucked?
As always an amazing guide ! I have a question though. This video and every other video and written guide says that the El rune that you need to craft the Steel Rune Word and the Malice rune word is supposedly the easiest of them to find while farming Countess. However, I wasted like 3 hours farming that monster to only drop ONE el rune , while having almost a full stash box of the other ones that she drops. Am I unlucky, is it normal (the rarity) or am I missing something?

I watched first few guides but from this one onwards it will be thumbs down due to repetition of the same content in more than 50% of the video run time. It's like there is 2-3 minutes of fresh content in each guide and then there are recaps from the general guide, and all of this is mixed so there is no skipping recaps without missing some new content.
We can’t put out a guide and assume people watched the others. Each guide is intended to be self sufficient. Use the time stamps or the written article to scan where the info you need is

you dont need leap, also phase blade builds have 0 durability and guess what happens when you swing 12ticks a second. weapons break

Is it correct I can’t hotkey more then 2 skills..? So confused, I need to first switch the secondary skill with F1/2/3 and then ALSO right click, so two clicks for one skill…??? Is that normal?
You bind the skills to F1-F8 to switch them for your 2 attacks. So yes, pressing an F1 key only equips the skill and from there on you use it.
